Bikes?

Eventually, i'll get round into buying some, and painting them up as well- but i've got a bit too much on my plate at the moment. Cant say that i've used bikes before personally, but a few of my friends have had a good time with them - monday night saw a bloodclaw/wolf guard/ space wolf captain guy speeding around the battle field doing alot of damage + shrugging off damage due to their t5.

Equipment is obviously vital, couple of melta guns on the bikes, with their turbo boost (if they have it) makes them quite nifty at speeding around the battle field from cover to cover to get a decent shot at any tank.

I think alot of people might say that they wont use them due to other force organisation slots, lots of peole suggest running at least 1, preferably 2 baal predators, and then the Vanguard help due to the fact they can charge on the turn they deep strike, but the key is making an army that is flexible - you never know what turn the vanguard come down - turn 2 could be too early and leave you in trouble, and if they dont turn up till turn 4, they might have very little to do. At least with the bikes you've got them turn 1 and they can speed across the battlefield to where you want them.

I checked out the 'Blood Rodeo' List, and was impressed!! For those of you who don't want to use google, I posted a link below. Check it out!

Blood Rodeo List Linky

I have the intention of *one day* making a 'blood rodeo' themed Knights of Blood army. Using various 'knight' like themed bits such as fantasy helms etc etc.

At the moment though, I (nor anyone in my Local) use any bikes. My reason is fluff only. And I loooooove JP's :)

Yours in Honour and Faith,

Chaplain Hiltraud

[EDIT] BTW, if you can, check out the Mephiston on bike mini. It's awesome! (The pic/link is at the bottom of the page the link above leads you to. I think...)

Brother Mojonir; Here's a link to the Mephiston on bike conversion. Admittedly, this pic was not where I said it was, I too was having brain fail!

I refer to it as 'look no hands' apart from that, it's a pretty cool model!

Check out the way the exhaust are painted!!!!

I used 3 units of 4 bikes/attack bike with max melta in the Hard Boyz qualifier. I ran a Priest on a bike with them. They were great; killed many tanks in the first game and soaked up a ton of fire from a Space marine gun line in the last. They worked so well that I thought I could scale it back and add some other stull to my list.

Well the semi-finals did not go so well for me.

Two 8 man units in the posted rodeo list should work well. I would for sure use that last 85 points he has left over for another Priest on a bike.

i think its a good idea to run blood angels bikers in a game just seems more their style. plus the added 1 up for toughness is very nice. I have a squad of 8, plus attack bike and i use them all the time they are always worth there weight.

My only delema is where do i put there motorcycle club badge at?

  • 3 weeks later...

Hey just wanted to let you all know I've written up the full analysis & how to on the Blood Rodeo for a more in-depth look at how to use the army, the concept and why it works as well as general tactics, strengths and weaknesses (link below).

I've gotten a lot of positive feedback about it and of people building the list so hope it remains popular and sucessful! I'm in the process now of making it myself... so many magnets and paint!

I'm skeptical of the theory of this list, but without having played with it I can't say for sure. It just rings my "too complicated" bell, although that may just be becuase they mention Stelek had a hand in building it.

Khan is the best way to go if you really want to run bikes. You can always paint them red though.

0b ;)

I totally disagree. I'd rather save the points and take a normal bike captain. Khan just doesn't have many advantages unless you're running an assualt list, and then you're better off not running bikes.

I have just worked a squad of bikers into my national finals list.

5 bikers with 2PG, 1 Fist and a MM attack Bike.

They will be led by a priest on bike with PW.

I havent had enough time to check it out yet or play test it (im waiting for the box set I won in the last tourney to come through) but on paper it looks like everything Im lacking in one awesome unit. Its great to deal with a host of nasties - even take down enemy mephiston /big gribblies a few pegs if he gets in too close

It pulls the weight of shooty- putting out a deadly volley of 5 AP2 shots at 12" and a good 3 x AP2 shots at 24".

Thats not even including the 10 twin linked bolter shots at 12".

Then you get to FC charge after that with a toughness five squad with FNP.

Played a landspeeder (MM) squad in a tourney last week. Imma thinkin' that bikes would have been preferable in just about every situation other than 24" zoom move across the table to contest an objective (which I did and ended up winning the game 'cause of it)

Bikes aren't eaten in HTH, they get a better invuln save, and are in a squad (rather than a squadron), so don't have to deal with results of immobilized -> wrecked (really non-fun with av10).

That and the wonky way cover saves work for vehicles (the completely ridiculous way area terrain doesn't normally protect vehicles) means bikes get a lot more stuff to hide behind.

I dont get how the "rodeo" is some ground breaking list...its just common sense...or am i missing something completely?

I tend to agree, I also don't see how it is that effective, sure it'll go ok against some mech lists bit it will struggle with some of the non top tier lists out their. I just dont see this non mech approach working, for the points you dont get enough, especially when your tactic is, "shoot with the bikes then let them get charged and die". But thats just my opinion, lets see if anyone does well with it in tournie.
