Problems painting the new chainswords

Ok I have a small problem and need some urgent advise because I've got my painting mojo on right now and this is really holding me up!

Traditionally I have always painted my chainswords black with yellow stripes they look good. But when gw made all our new bits and don't get me wrong they all look fantastic, but some of the chain swords have little scrolly artwork on them or blood drops. I just don't think the old way I paint them will look any good with yellow and black stripes and the scrolly things. I was going to paint all my chainswords in a new method but I just can't think of anyway it would look good. Of course I'm going to have to paint the plain chainswords the same way. It would look silly to have a half and half squad.

You could call it a case of Painters block! So how are you guys painting your chainswords now especially the ones with the scrolls? any pictures or ideas would be great.

The other option I have is to just scrape all the scrolls back and paint them with the old stripes, but I was thinking of trying something new just cant think of anything!

Help me plzzzzz :P

Well, not as such a blood angel painter, let alone Blood angel player, but I have done chainswords for Chaos marines, and they have little bits and peices on them from time to time that at first glance might not work out with the scheme.

However, I have got round this in the past by first of all painting the pattern, onto the swords, the yellow and black chevron pattern that most Iron Warriors use (of course they are my chosen Chaos Legion) then I would paint the remainder of the details other colours.

For example there is at least one Chaos chainsword I can think of from the older models that has a trim around the edge of the main flat sides of the sword. I painted it the main colours first, but then changed that section to make it stand out. I think I used a Tin bitz base, up to Boltgun, up to chainmail, highlighted Mithril silver.

I'd post pictures of the models, but unfortunately no longer have them, but when I come to "revive" my IW army (once I have a few other "projects" cleared up), I intend to keep the patterns and scheme the same, so will then be able to do so.

Hope this give you some ideas from a different point of view of painting.

Cheers. :P

Try it on one, see how it goes with the blood drops.

If you find you dont like it, then take an exacto-blade and shave all of the suckers off.
