Tottertates' Angels Sanguine

Recommended Posts

Hey brothers (and sisters),

If you haven't seen my new member post, I am new to wargaming as well as assembling/painting miniatures...so take pity on me. I have no experience in this, but I do have passion and a steady hand (which seems to help immensely). Feel free to comment or make suggestions as to how I can improve my models! I'll be updating this frequently.

As always, thanks and enjoy!

EDIT: Pics turned into links. Please use more web friendly images in the future. 1meg 2600x2000 pics makes the threads load very slowly. -- Kurgan

Going for a split paint scheme for your first try is bold indeed, they look pretty good so far! My usual first advice for new painters is invest in a means to drill out the barrels on the guns, even just a shallow hole in the end of the barrel adds alot to the look of your mini,

secondly when prepping your models for primer, take the time to scrape away the lines left by the mold process, it's another small thing that has a great impact on the quality of your finished piece. Just take a exacto knife or any kind of sharp blade and drag it perpendicularly across the mold line a couple of times, as long as it's sharp it will remove them safely.

The washes on your reds look great! maybe add another thin wash to the Aquilas on the chest plates and other various bolter sigals to give them a bit more depth too.

Keep up the good work!

Thats a very good start my friend. As a fellow Angel Sanguine painter i have to recommend you the following a)Watch your strokes and dont be afraid to fix every little mistake you made. b)Drill your barrels it adds to the model's realism.c)thin your paints the red is a hard color to achive.

Thankfully you are in the right path. Please keep us updated. :)

Well I want to say even the unfinished ones look better than my first attempts did XD I'm not sure how you are painting yours but I would suggest looking at the modelling and paiting sections in the tutorial section in this forum :D as it will give you some great ideas (I personally really enjoy modelling wish I had started sooner :<) and while some of them may be hard for you to do you can always simplify them or pick the easier ones and the sooner you start trying and learning new techniques the sooner you find what you are good at and what look you like.

In case you don't know about the following I suggest you check out the basic principles behind dry brushing and inking/washing as they can be really helpful getting some quick effects and are really pretty easy before you start becomeing a master ;)

Also I don't know if you have had trouble painting your gold (sometimes the paint is thin) so you might want to try this (or just see if you prefer the outcome) paint the bits you want brown (or tin bitz is what I use but lots of people use brown) then paint over that with brazen bronze (i think XD I'm bad with paint names) and if you have little nooks and crannys like with the wings on the chests you can leave a bit of tin bitz showing in the nooks, then finally paint gold over the brass and leave some of the lower parts showing brass if you so wish...

:D good luck with yout army :D and may you soon be slaying the enemies of the emperor... unless your against me... in which case die foolish Mon-keigh!

Hmm thats sounds good, could I just use a drill with a tiny bit or do I need something else? I'll make sure I look for the mold lines before priming my terminator assault squad! Thanks for the advice!

A small drill bit can work just by hand if you have the dexterity to handle a small bit, otherwise a pin vice is what you need, when I first started I just used a small bit glued to a small piece of dowel. Also center prick the holes with a needle or push pin to help keep your bit on track, works wonders.

Well, I spent the day working on my Death Company with just a few minutes touching up some of the sloppy lines on my tactical squad. All the packs were detailed and magnetized along with the arms/weapons. If my girlfriend allows, I'll detail the weapons tonight... Tomorrow I'll drill out the barrels as was suggested quite a few times ;) Again keep in mind that the details are far from polished to the point that I would consider playing them.
