sac_ld
So I'm new to Blood Angels (and the Imperium as a whole). So I'll just make my referances and then ask my question I hope that this wasn't asked before (but I didn't see anything about it). The list of starting Wargear says: • Power armour • Boltgun or bolt pistol • Frag and krak grenades • Force weapon • Psychic hood Then the option says: Replace power armour, boltgun, frag and krak grenades for Terminator armor and: - no additional weapon - a storm bolter - a combi-flamer, -melta or -plasma - a storm shield So if I had my Librarian start off with a Bolt pistol rather then a Bolt gun and I by the terminator armour does that mean I can potentially have the following? Terminator armour Bolt pistol Storm bolter Force weapon Psychic hood My friend said no... but then he could not really tell me why.
MadGreek
You pick EITHER the Bolt Pistol or the Bolt Gun. If you take the Pistol, you have no Bolt Gun to upgrade to the Storm Bolter. So either the Pistol gets upgraded, or, RAW, nothing. At least, thats my feel.

Alright but what would happen if I opted to take no additional weapon does that mean I still would not get the Bolt Pistol? I suppose the real question is if the librarian has a Bolt Pistol is it allowed to upgrade it's armour to the terminator armour?
MadGreek
Actually, yes, I think that means no additional weapon. The image of a Termie with a little bolt pistol seems somehow wrong anyway - doesn't fit the hand.
sac_ld
Fair enough, just figured I'd ask the question.

Mortarion
In order to buy a terminator armour you need to have power armour, boltgun, frag and krak grenades to exchange for it. So, if you do not have a boltgun (because you chose the bolt pistol from the start) you can not buy terminator armour. Therefore, you cannot have both terminator armour and a bolt pistol. This is correct. Yeah....that does sound right when you set it up like that. But why the push for Termiy armor? For Deep Strike I hope not DOA is better, for a 2+.....hidden in a unit it better, we will lose CCW attacks as well as not being able to make sweeping advances and in the "point pinching" of the new 40K the Storm Shield is about the only option... just my 2 cents. Thanks for the clearest answer that makes sense. I can see why they made it work that way.
