Great Company Markings Question

Captain Trivia

Recommended Posts

I'm new to SW, although I've been an on and off player of 40k since 2nd edition (damned game gets a bit expensive for me and that pesky reality kicks my butt), and I was thumbing through my SW codex for picking what Great Company I want my battle force to be from. I like the simple emblem of Bjorn Stormwolf's great company, but in the codex it's the emblem on a grey background and I'd really prefer it on a yellow background. I know it's 40k and ultimately I could have my Great company emblem be on a plaid shoulder background if I so chose, but are the fluff police going to constantly point out "ahem, Bjorn Stormwolf's Great Company symbol is on a grey background" every time I break out my army if I throw Stormwolf's emblem on a yellow shoulder pad?

I wouldn't think anybody would have a problem with it. Space Wolves are very independent, so it stands to reason that if a Wolf Lord chose to "alter" his Great Company marking, nothing much would be said. They're your models... paint them how you like, play your games and have fun!

Besides other SW players I doubt anyone knows/gives a crap what color your shoulder pads are. I have all mine in Redmaw's markings and I haven't had one person ever comment so yeah just go with what you think best.

To be honest if I had to do it over I'd change Redmaw's Company marking's from white to grey since doing them in white has been a pain.

Ok just wondering I mean I know painting one's armies seems to be more of a luxury at my local gaming store. Plenty of Gray and Primered Legions of Doom running about the store, but I like to have a decently painted product on the table. So in reality not many would care, but there are 4 other SW players at my store, and was just wondering. Thanks!

My company is Bjorn Stormwolf's and I have them with yellow pads. It adds more warmth to an otherwise cold colour scheme... I also started them before the current codex when GW didn't have any information about company colours.

Its a pretty easy symbol to freehand too, there's a tutorial for it on this subforum, or the under the tutorials forum itself.
