Help with list modification

So, a local tournament I was planning on participating in was scheduled for the 24th. Recently, however, White Dwarf put their own 1750 pt tournament on that day, forcing my local GW store to run that tournament instead. As a result, I find myself needing to tweak my standard 1500 pt Grey Knight list into a 1750 list on short notice, with no time to tweak or play-test.

At 1500, I usually run three Land Raiders: one Crusader with a Brother-Captain and some Terminators inside, and two Godhammer with squads of PAGKs in them. Currently, I have models for three Rhinos, ten Inquisitorial Stormtroopers with Meltas, and an Inquisitor and his retinue. I could buy and assemble something different, but I'm in kind of a time crunch to get it all done in two weeks.

My question is: what's the best way to modify this force up to the required point value while maintaining as much tactical flexibility and power as possible? My first impulse was to just throw in the two Rhinos with dual 5x ISTs and Meltas and call it done, but I wanted to ask and see if anyone else had any ideas for interesting combinations that might work better.

Thanks for the help! :)

Another Land Raider ;)

It's a single model added to the army, and fits perfectly in the 250pts you need to make up

What sort of list are you using, and care to post it here? People will be able to give better examples of what to take if they know what you will already be using

Can't - I already thought of using that, or the GK Dreadnought I have... but they're both Heavy Support choices, of which all three of mine are taken up by the Land Raiders I'm already using. Sad face. :(

Certainly! At 1500, I'm using:

Brother-Captain w/Incinerator, 4 GK Terminators w/Incinerator, inside a Land Raider Crusader w/Smoke Launchers

Justicar, 6 PAGK w/2x Incinerators, inside a Land Raider w/Extra Armor & Smoke Launchers

Justicar, 6 PAGK w/2x Incinerators, inside a Land Raider w/Extra Armor & Smoke Launchers

I run everyone inside the transports. I favor going second for the reactive deployment, as I have had substantial success in the past in maneuvering my force to bring overwhelming power against a small, out-of-position chunk of the enemy army. I need to build this up to 1750.

The other option available to me would be cutting one PAGK out of each squad, use the 5x Melta ISTs with Rhinos from Imperial Armour (they're cheaper there), and upgrade the BC to a Grand Master. However, I've never played in a game large enough to warrant the Grand Master before, and so I have no experience with him. Have any of you guys used him in games this size before? Does he pull his weight, or would I be better off with more soldiers?

Personally, i never use template weapons on high-BS models like characters because it just seems a waste of their skill, but with a BC it isn't too bad. If you plan on upgrading him to a GM, it would be worth considering swapping the Incinerator with a Psycannon, as it gives a chance at taking out light tanks at good range. Keep in mind GKTs fire the Psycannon at 36 inches on the move, too.

It's a good, solid list for reactive gameplay, but the Crusader is a much more of a 'fire' unit, as are GKTs. I personally love using GKTs (I have about as many GKTs that i have Warriors in my 5,000pts Tyranids army) and the Crusader is a great unit for them.

If you want more of a close combat punch, drop the Incinerator BC with the Psycannon GM and give him a unit of 7 GKTs from the elites section (so you get a BC in the squad, who gets an extra attack. Downside to this is that the GM can be singled out in CC, but he is also free to leave the unit at will). By just adding that, you will have 9 points left to throw somewhere.

Hope this helps ;)

Go the IST's. They add more scoring units, and give you some extra AT. If you're worried about them becoming easy kills, keep them in reserve so that you enemy has three LR's and Grey Knights swarming about already when these fresh "harmless" units move up to take objectives in the midfield.
