The Road to ToS

Well folks, I've just had it confirmed that I've got a ticket for the Autumn UK GT. With that being the case I'm going to be back into training mode with my sisters and the possibility of changing things around a little.

Just wondering if there's any other OI forum members who are going to compete this year and if so what you thinking of taking?

I'll be taking my sisters, wanted to use them for ages!!
Welcome to the fold Sgt. Looking forward to seeing how things progress with your playtesting/lists. Don't know how much you've used your sisters in anger but if you've got any questions or want some feedback drop it into the OI forum, we're always up for assisting a new fellow inquisitor.

:D i shall be sitting at home on the 20/21st november... never mind at least ill see your ladies at kthulu if you and the lads are still going?
Have to say GC08 I'm a bit gutted for you and Idaho. Was looking forward to seeing the 10th coming out fighting for the ToS, maybe the spring campaign eh?

I'm still well up for the tournie in Sept, had a word with the other 1st Mercian guys as well and hopefully it will be more than just myself. Storm Bringer is definitely interested but he's got to see how things go with his better half (it's their anniversary that week). It should be noted though that his Nids will be shelved for competative play this year in favour of his new traitorous chapter, the 'Dread Wolves'. So, watch this space...

I'm an Aussie. There are just not enough things around here to go to. Might go to Gencon here though, when it's on.

Yeah, if there were any interesting Tournements around here I'd be on them like...insert analogy here...However there has only been one recently and even that was just 'Let's have a spearhead day!' For the record, Tank hunter Exorcists are WONDEROUS.

Where abouts in Australia are you? I get along to plenty of great tournaments each year. Nothing as big as a UK GT but there are still big events here in Aus with 100+ players.

Kalgoorlie here.

We have small tourneys at our LGS with only 8-10 players.

Metagame consists of 1IG, 2BAs, 1 BT, 1SM, 1SW, 1CSM, 1Tau, 2 Tyranids (I'm one of those players) and 1GK (which, once again, is me)

Fighting Marines is boring. It would be great to be in a big tourney with more than 4 armies outside of power armour

Yep, you're as blind as a bat.

WargamerAU

Go there and go to the forums, scroll down and go to the QLD tournaments section. You can find info about upcoming Brisbane tournaments (and some regional ones as well) there.

Tournaments coming up:

Quarter Master III 60 players 7-8 August - already full though.

Gencon - September

Orktoberfest - 40k/Fantasy, Last weekend of October - usually around 60-70 40k players in attendance.

Quarter Master IV - Sometime later this year, probably November or December.

Remaining regional events this year include (most of them have already been run):

Madgrot Mackay - About 30 players - November

There's an independently run tournament in Brisbane about every month or two, with anywhere from 30 players to 60. I haven't been to Gencon before so I can't comment on how good it will be. I went to Quarter Master I earlier this year and it was a great event. I'm going to QMIII and hope to make it down again for QMIV. I also hope to attend Orktoberfest again like I have the past two years.

As an aside, it is currently unlikely that there will be any ToS format tournaments run here in Aus. There is already a strong tourney scene run by independent groups who generally do as good a job if not better then what GW was capable of.

Kalgoorlie here.

My condolences, you're more in the middle of nowhere then I am (Rockhampton).

Aww thats a shame i liked that nids army.. i learned alot about game mechanics when we played.. i was looking forward to a rematch with my MK2 scouts

Its quite possible that I have secured a ticket, as a very nice gentleman on Warseer may have bought 2 by mistake, and is willing to sell me the spare! All it costs is my immortal soul - what a bargain!

@ greatcrusade08: I reccommend putting some requests out there on the web for spare tickets, possibly Warseer. Last year I managed to secure a ticket last minute by ringing GW a month before, but google searching Throne of Skulls ticket for sale revealed several sites where people couldn't go and sold the their ticket.

@ ArmouredWing: Be cool to see you at kthulu and hopefully some of the others too :woot:

Training mode eh. Well I think you have a good gaming group that you will do fine. But remember the armies you fought last year and what you needed against them. I think 2 Exocists and 3 Pentient Engines would be useful, seeing as then you get the firepower to challenge Falcons and the like and the combat potential, plus the increased armoured targets. Who can afford to ignore those Engines?!

I can't remember your list exactly, I think you had a wedge of Rhinos didn't you?

Nope, that was the other sisters player. I've got the 4 big squads of footslogging sisters, 3 exos and my HQ in the immolator. Thinking of tinkering around with the exorcists, perhaps dropping 1 and putting the points elsewhere... however, 3 exorcists rule the table when they roll good for number of shots.

As much as I'd like to run PE's I find the biggest problem is having to shoehorn a priest into my list somewhere. Thing is it goes against my playstyle, I like the fact I can stand off a target and hit it with bolterfire up to 24". Throw a priest in and you change the dynamic of the unit and as mine currently all assist each other it would present a problem overall. hmmmm....

Hay Idaho what's your marines looking like? Hopefully you haven't let your mate paint them again like 2 years ago!

No mate, have recovered them as best I can. Currently adding to them some decals to make them proper Ultramarines, and creating an awesome new army list that will sweep all before it! (hopefully)

How have you been mate?

I'm good mate just moved even further down south to tidworth and I'm getting married at the end of the month

Wow, congratulations mate! I guess we are all getting old and settling down!

Tidworth eh? I'm in Andover which is only a short hop away! If you fancy a game some time let a brother know and we can arrange something. Is it permanent or are you just stationed there for a while?

Baby is good mate, getting to be a big boy now, running me ragged! I literally just finished repairing the Flamer Marine I was painting that he got hold of!

What club do you use?? and I'm def up for a game!!

Haven't really got a club, as the nearest clubs are in Basingstoke, and though one of them is ran by a friend, it is open the nights I'm boxing. There is another so will get the contact details and see what I can do.

But we best not discuss that here, lest we derail the thread and are purged by a vengeful ArmouredWing...

Heh heh heh, I won't mention asking you if you wanted to seize the initiative...and then you rolling a 6!!! Heh heh heh. Damn my fair natured attitude!!! LOL :)

true but when i steal iniative with scouts theres bugger all i can do... everything was outflanking by then... damn dice rolls
