Bat33.1
I am currently building up a Flesh Tearers army and was going to go with a mech based list but I've put this on the back burner while I work on a full jump pack DC based list. The DC Rhino has been seen elsewhere on here as have the foot slogging DC but I've included a couple of shots of the new build in the early stages. I need 47 jump pack figures all in including Astorath - probably 'Carnarvon - acts like' for his removes 0-1 DC rule, 1 x libby, 2 x Honour Guard, 3 x Death Company and 2 full 10 man RAS squads. So here are the pics: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7022253DC.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/DCRhino004crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/DCRhino002crop.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7022256DC.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7022249DC.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7022250DC.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7022252DC.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7022254DC.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7122282FTWIP1.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7122280DCsarge1.jpg I've built and painted a bunch of DC jump packs along with some Sang Guard versions to mix in probably on some of the honour guard and HQ figs. I have also built 20 or so standard jump packs which are so far painted straight black ready to detail paint. I'm going to try a slightly different approach to painting the DC black compared to the completed foot squad and go for an edge highlight style rather than a grey, 2 x badab wash and light drybrush of codex grey. I've used the new style on the DC jump packs and it looks ok to me but not as neat as I'd like compared to some. My problem is I loose focus when doing repetitive work and get a bit sloppy - maybe that means it's coffee time  All the legs mounted on the resin bases have been drilled, pinned for extra strength using a pin vice, which was fun ;) I'm not sure what is worse drilling and pinning a load of bases or working with Forge World chain axes which I have tried to strengthen by pinning. This involved cutting off the shaft just below the axe head drilling into the head and then drilling more or less the full shaft to insert a pin. It works but it's slow and painful on the fingers trying to hold such small pieces. I may mix'n'match with some chainswords as the thought of pinning a bunch of FW chain axes fills me with dread. It took the best part of two hours to do five axes.
SamaNagol
Doing the FW Chain Axes, I can vouch for being far worse. Especially when you end up breaking about 4 of them.
Bat33.1
Oh they are a real joy ;) I'm thinking of using them for squad leaders only rather than the full monty at least I will have made some effort to follow the fluff
Midnightmare
As I said on your previous thread, nicely done especially as it has been a while since you last painted! Liking the agressive poses something I'm having a go at with my current bunch of DC. One thing though...your evil Flesh Tearers seem to have stolen one of our Blood Angel rhino's!! ;)

Malus the Destroyer
Anyone else having the problem of the FT shoulder pads popping off? I've had to re-glue like 6 of them now.
Bat33.1
"Quitter!" Oh yes life is just too short ;) No problems with shoulder pads coming off here but you do always wash your plastic sprues out of the box to remove mould release agent? I also do this with the shoulder pads, not really needed but just to be sure and use plenty superglue, I've found the galeforce 9 stuff to work well as it's a bit thicker than some and fills small gaps nicely. Some paint in progress shots and one completed RAS with JP - the close up shot of this was before I washed the high contrast grey highlights back a bit with badab. I've still to decide on a company but may go with the 4th led by Brother Captain Gorn and Sgt Noxx. James Swallow in 'Crimson Night' mentions a skull motif on the shoulder pad I'm thinking white here it doesn't fit with IA but hey these are my little plastic guys  http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7182314FTpaint1.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7212318FTWIP.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7212319FTWIP.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7212320FTWIP.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/paulj1965/GW%2040K/P7212321FTWIP.jpg Advice and criticism welcome... Whitefireinferno
Fantastic Work PJ and I too do not like the tone that they said "Stole" we Flesh Tearers STOLE NOTHING, we have Borrowed them without asking or any plans to return them anytime soon. But you know Dante is cool with it.
Bat33.1
Thanks Forgefather No problems sharing as I've been picking up loads of new ideas around here - aka stealing :P The black on the DC at the top was painted with Vallejo German Grey which is a nice dark grey and then 2 coats of Badab Black over that to pull it right down followed by a light drybrush with Codex Grey this was done very light and looks much subtler in natural light at 1:1 scale than the pics which look very powdery in some shots. The FT red is started with a Vallejo grey spray primer followed by thinned Red Gore. I thin pretty much all my paint layers with water usually around 30-40% water as I find it flows better and doesn't loose the detail in the mini. I then put a Devlan Mud wash all over this concentrating on flowing it into the edges of the armour and trying not to get it pooling on the flat detail free areas as it can look very blotchy. Once the wash has dried I go back to thinned Red Gore, now more like 50-50 water to paint and start picking out edges, highlights and anywhere light will be falling, this may need a couple of coats to get coverage but you can fade it out by using thinner paint. I then follow with thinned Blood Red but covering less areas and highlights you just want to lift the highlights up a shade or so to bring some contrast back. I then use some thinned Blazing Orange very sparingly on a few edges and dots to bring a bit more life to the red. I finally finish up with a Baal Red wash to pull it all together it also helps to fudge some of the highlighting where it's got a bit too bright. It sounds like a lot of steps but with a few minis on the go its pretty quick. I'd love to be able to paint in a neat detailed fine lined style but I'm not good enough and more to the point nowhere near patient enough to do a whole army in that style. I've decided that washes are my friends in this and I can get a finish I'm happy with in less time and more to the point I may even finish what I've started out to do ;)
Bat33.1
lol whitefireinferno I don't think Dante has much choice when it comes to the FT boys and thanks for the praise all complements happily accepted. The painted line above has the Red Gore with Devlan Mud wash on the figures to the right with no black the others have had the red worked all the way to Baal Red wash. Whitefireinferno
Aww come on Midnight Runner It was all in good faith we come to visit we "borrow" a rhino or 30 raid your ammo stores and carve "Flesh Tearers RULE" into the bathroom wall But honestly is that not what family is for? Also PJ I like your colour scheme I am tempted to steal it since my FT are basickly the same scheme as my Tau so it looks bland on my shelf But then again I do not have the effort to strip and start over on either and even Putting my 3rd army between them does not really work Gah cursed Red Corsiars with your RED paint and it is going to be worse once I get my 4 boxes of Spacehulk  Hmm I could run a Deathwing army  Or have some sort of extreme APOC army. Mix'n'match kit bashes are fine but green stuff sculpting is beyond me, too long in the tooth to learn now and too impatient. I'm going to add some tamiya red gore to a few of the minis as I found a bottle in my old painting box and it's still fine.
lounahtic
i really like the way you pose most of them, they're very dynamic... like they're coming to kick your face in... and that's what they should do.... OoOoOOooo should paint up some BA and BA's successor chapters and gather up for an epic apocalypse game vs nids and chaos daemons.... battle for BAAL!!!!
