Rhino V's Razorback

If your thinking Blood Claws, Razorbacks are way too small to hold them. While they love fighting, they need a good amount of numbers to make use of it. I would typically only use Razorbacks for small Grey Wolf groups and Longfangs, though more importently so as a highly mobile twin linked lazcannon. As most infantry formations tend to be bigger, they would be gun first, transport second. Blood claws are generally not quite skillful enough to be useful in small numbers.

Rhinos are a decent transport for Grey Hunters and Blood Claws I think. 10 people can fit in one, so if it makes it you can roll out a pretty large group of guns. Since the blood claws are more plentiful, them smashing into a unit is more felt. Having multiple Rhinos with about 200 points between each streaming towards them is normally pretty terrifying prospect, be they hunters or claws. Not terribly durable, but it's extremely hard to stop a entire mechinised unit speeding towards them.

That being said, a Land Raider Crusaider tends to be the only transport big enough to fit 15 of them in, plus a HQ to lead them. Pretty much the raw multitude of attacks would really damage most things it smashed into them. Though 250 points is expensive, pretty much a Rhino with a Grey Hunter squad + Wolf Guard leader. Or it's weight in blood claws. Plus if you have that many, a Priest adds another 100 onto that which makes it a pretty expensive prospect.

That being said, it's all theory my end that I've been reading here and there, I may lack the hands on experience of other members here. Personally, I would probably opt for the Rhinos to start with and use more Hunters then Claws.

What I'm planning is:

- Blood Claws get Drop Pods (Delivering them closer to the enemy earlier on)

- Grey Hunters get Rhinos (They've earned enough to not be thrown at the ground in big hunks of metal)

- Long Fangs get a Razorback, but more as an extra S9 weapon than as a transport...

What I'm planning is:

- Blood Claws get Drop Pods (Delivering them closer to the enemy earlier on)

A big "no no" on this. Don't do this, just don't B). They will get shot to pieces and most probably will have no range on the turn they drop with their pathetic 6" bolt pistols and BS 3.

But the other two options for hunters and fangs are sound for me.

Buy Razorbacks, take rhinos for bloodclaws.

Seriously, they need the numbers- 6 guys isnt going to cut it.

Knew i could count on you Gray Mage ;)

Thanks everyone. i was thinking of Podding as in the Ragnar Fluff but agree the risks outweigh the coolness B)

Ease of use: Rhino.

Big gun option: Razorback.

Big Hammer coming to knock on your door: LRC.

BC's in a LRC with a WP leading them and the right PE choice is worth it, if you can get it. Otherwise, it's best to favor Rhinos and go 12" per turn until you arrive at the enemy lines, and pile out if you can. That way if your transport gets surrounded and wrecked, you won't lose them all. Just put them out on the other side, away from the enemy, and get ready for some fun. The next turn, just move the Rhino out of the way, and go to it.

Otherwise, a LRC is still the better option. Front assault hatch and all that...
