Grey Mage
My point with the White Scars was that bikes are their gimmick and it's not unique to them. Sure Khan has the ability but so does a generic captain. There's nothing special about his ability with bikes over the generic captain's ability other than that he needs to be riding Moondrakken to get that ability. To top it off it costs ten more points for his bike than for a SM captain to have a bike. You could say the same thing about any of the chapters shown in that codex. And his bike is much much better. Woof Riders perhaps? :tu: :) You know I have tried a list using Grimnar, a Squad of WG Terminators for his retinue and all bikers..... Unit of 10 WG Bikers, 9 Power Weapons, 1 Thunder Hammer = 650 Points... Logan Grimnar = 275 Points... The Swarmlord = 280 Points... 100 Gaunts = 500 Points... Watching those 10 Wolf Guard hoon through said Gaunts, chopping off the Swarmlords head (when he is just about to kill the Great Wolf) before doing a bootleg turn, bringing their bikes to a screeching halt, looking at the now panicking Gaunts and revving their engines = Priceless... (yes, they actually did hoon through a gap in the Gaunts, took the Swarmlords last wound, zoomed just out of charge range with their consolidate move while doing a bootleg turn to face the Gaunts, one hell of a mental image aint it?) LoneSniperSG
I was having a think today and it crossed my mind that us being an assault based army that we should be able to take IronClad Dreadnoughts... Dontcha think? ;) I can understand the Ironclads, but why anything else? We're supposed to spit on their stupid "Codex Astartes" and use it to prop up the feasting table with the warped leg. And after that, it's a chew toy for the wolves. Anything more than the Ironclads shared with C:SM and we wouldn't be so individual anymore, and I'd frankly throw the army in storage for 12 years. I want to know how your gonna dope Logan Grimnar to use a jump pack. Keep Logan in his TDA and let him have two Jump Packs (He is the Boss). Then you can have; Logan goes up, Logan comes down, Logan goes down, Logan goes down, now you need the Thunder Wolves to get him out of the hole. Now we need some names; Just plain WG: Wolfwing Jump Pack WG: ? Bike WG: ? Maybe Woof Riders, but what to call a list with mainly TWC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206365-space-wolves-vs-space-marines/page/5/#findComment-2470021 Share on other sites
Wysten
On that note, give Logan a assualt bike, just to carry him in termie armour. XD Though I imagine all the weight would make for some really bad driving. Forcing you to consult the scatter dice for every move phase as he tries to steer the thing after having a few kegs. XD I don't think we need any names for our groups though since we are a individal group who just do anything when the situation calls for it. We have swift claws, then we have Wolf Guard that have never quite grown up. We have Skyclaws, then we have Wolf Guard that never quite grew up, we have Blood Claws, and we have Rengar Blackmane who never quite gre... Wolf Lord Loki
In short. No. This codex has proved to be tons of fun so far. Apart from the silly mistakes like 10 vs. 12 man Drop Pods. I wouldn't change a thing. I'm havin a blast :wallbash: Yes, but how would we get the kegs of ale to the victory party otherwise!! :D Plus i think having 2 special weapons plus a terminator with combi or heavy weapons might have been a bit unbalancing. Droping it to ten men makes you have to choose between tooled up wolf guard and the ability to take multiple special weapons. It would have been a bit much to make a basic troops choice awesome at shooting AND assualt. Dontcha think? u Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206365-space-wolves-vs-space-marines/page/5/#findComment-2470100 Share on other sites

Timberhawk
I rescind my previous statement about the White Scars. I'm not terribly familiar with the Codex: SM and only looked at his stat listing at the back of the book before. After reading his entry and special rules I see that the uniqueness of the White Scars pretty much comes from taking Khan and his bike. :pinch: I've only had the Codex for a few weeks, next time I'll read more thoroughly before I shoot off my mouth...figuratively speaking. Blitzkreig
You know I really wish our Wolf Guard could take Jump Packs and Bikes for less points... like 10 for a JP and 15 for a Bike, but then we would see all Jump Pack/all Bike lists and we can't have the Wolves doing a better BA style/DA style/WS style army now can we? Oh well, I still use entire packs of Jump Pack Wolf Guard or Bike wolf guard.... but usually just as elites, no need to worry about holding objectives with hard as nails assault troops now is there? Thats why we have hard as nails Grey Hunters. Wysten
Aye, cheaper Jetpacks/bikes is something I only see for the blood angels/WS's. They are good enough for when you want to use them, but I feel the only reason we were given Skyclaws at all was so that we could not complain about not having a Jetpack unit. WS 3 and expensive do not go well together. Though a lone wolf with a Jetpack/Bike for reliatively cheap... That would be awesome, slamming flat out into all sorts of demons and what not, probably quick enough to keep up with a mechinised unit, kind of like mini methstrims, small bullets of anger directed to where they are needed most. Deep in the vital organs of the other army. The image of three lone wolves, one with hammer and stormsheild, one with Mark of the Wolven and one with Combi-weapon + Forst Blade going in on bikes into a gunline ahead of a tank assualt sends shivers through me. Though probably pretty broken. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206365-space-wolves-vs-space-marines/page/5/#findComment-2471190 Share on other sites
