templarboy
I am perplexed. I am about to start painting a whole passle of Red Scorpions. They appear to be a very dark gray, almost black. Is it black or grey? Looking at the FW pictures they could be black with a heavy grey highlight. How do you sages of paint-fu think the colour is achieved? winterdyne
I like to avoid mixing whenever possible. I'd go with a black undercoat, then basecoat of VMC Black-grey, highlighting by adding codex grey, then knocking back with black wash. Obliterator
Have a look at the foundation paint 'Charadon Granite', that's a dark grey. You could shade by applying a Badab Black wash, and do some edge hilights with Codex Grey. No mixing paints involved, and you get a nice dark grey easy. Anyway, that's how I would paint them <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206445-colour-for-my-red-scorpions/#findComment-2463402 Share on other sites
templarboy
Thanks fellas. I think I am going to try the foundation paint route. I also really hate mixing. If I am painting 50 of these guys, I would like them to look the same. Thanks again. njm3
Secret for mixing paint? Use empty paint pots and measure the paint with pipettes (and write down the recipe). None of that "mixing on the palette" crud where you always end up with slightly different shades.
