My WIP Sisters Army

I've been playing Daemonhunters for several years now, and I love 'em. (I also own Chaos, 'Nids, and Necrons, but that's beside the point). The guy I bought a lot of my stuff from second-hand also had a decent amount of Sisters stuff. After playing with them unpainted a few times, I think it's about time they got all prettied up and used as a proper part of my now-mixed Inquisition army.

The point of this thread is basically just to motivate me to keep workin' on 'em, and to hopefully get some feedback about my modeling, painting, and whatnot.

Here's the List:

Unpainted:

1 Cannoness

10 Repentia (low on my to-do list)

Mistress

2 Arco-Flagellants

2 Veteran Superiors

17 Sisters

4 Sisters with flamers (to be converted to melta)

2 with Storm Bolters

2 with Heavy Bolters

6 Seraphim

3 Exorcists

1 Rhino

1 Penitent Engine (also low on my list)

Painted:

4 Arcos

1 Veteran Superior

As promised, I've got some pictures to share. I inherited one Exorcist, but it lacked a loading servitor, so I've converted it a bit using some spare Immolator bits. It's kinda hard to see, but I moved the Exorcist keyboard and sister to the back, where the servitor usually goes. For the second two Exorcists, I'm using Whirlwinds as stand-ins, with Immolator roofs to make them look appropriate for Sisters. Here are a couple pics:

Not counting the Arcos (painted as Deathcults in my Daemonhunters scheme), I have 1 painted model so far. Here she is, in all her lonely glory:

The grey is a white base with a black ink wash over the whole model before I start in with the other colours. I'd really appreciate any comments and/or advice on either the conversions or the paint scheme. Also, anyone know a good way to convert metal flamers into melta?

More to come, so stay tuned!

I like the WW/Exo conversion and the colour scheme too - good job! Looks very good, Sisters look best with striking colours and white and blue are a good mix. I'm not keen on the red teeth on the chainsword, looks very odd.

As for converting flamers to meltas a barrel swap and removing the fuel tank is an obvious start, but I'd look to chopping the tank down a bit to attach it to the side of the gun, like the "proper" melta. That's how I'd try to do it, but converting metal models beyond extremity swaps is not something I've tried (or would like to!).

Looking forward to seeing more of your girls B)

ZOMG! I'm not the only person that puts red teeth on my chainswords!? Look good though, and better painted than mine.

I like the addition of the immolator bits to the WW exorcist. I've always disliked that model for an exorcist, but with the immolator bits I think its actually pretty decent.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, all! Glad to know I'm on the right track. Also, you can thank my friend TJ for the idea to use the Immolator top on the Exorcists. It didn't even occur to me until he pointed out the possibility.

So, update on my progress. I picked up some white primer for the army. Different brand than usual, so I did a couple test models, and everything went great. Used it on my army and... not so great. The problem is that when it dried it formed a rough surface, instead of smooth. While not visible, it's a huge problem because I use a black ink wash to get the light grey effect, so that it fills in all the nooks and crannied black. With a rough primer, the ink just stays where you put it, and the end effect is actually the opposite of what I want.

What it should look like:

What it does look like:

So now I'm in the process of stripping all the primer off the models. Can I just say, thank GOD these are metal models! For once, that comes in handy, as I can just give 'em an acetone bath and be done with it. Have to remove the bases first, but that's not a huge deal.

The tanks are the only plastic models I need to worry about, but actually they might have gotten off easy. Here's the Ecorcist hull with the ink wash on it. I think it looks fine. What do you think?

Try hitting the model with gloss sealer after priming white, then washing. The matte primer had too much "tooth" for the wash to work as desired. You might try experimenting with a satin sealer as well if the gloss throws you too far in the other direction.

Thanks for the input guys! I can't believe I didn't think about getting a gloss or stain finish. Good call.

I know it's been a while since I updated this thread. Part of that is that the project somewhat stalled out during the long process of stripping paint. Most of it though is that I had to move cities and start law school. I'm getting into the swing of things here though, so hopefully I'll have some time to pick up my sisters and make some more progress.

At this point, everything is stripped satisfactorily (one soak-scrub cycle with pure acetone, a second with non-acetone-based nail polish remover). Unfortunately, that also means that every single model has been disassembled back into its constituent parts. So my first job is simply reassembling everything. After that, I have a can of the brand of primer I prefer. I'll try just using that and see if it works, but if not I'll go pick up some gloss finish and give that a try.

As for the paint scheme, thanks for the encouragement! The armour plating is actually Scaly Green (one of my favorite colors), with highlights of Hawk Turquoise. The robes are Regal Blue with highlights of Enchanted Blue. And yeah, I definitely wanted something unique. Glad to hear you like it. And I agree, I can't wait to see how it looks on the vehicles!
