ImperialVanguard
Ok Since the Night Lords Gene-seed is pure, I was thinking I would create a Space Marine Chapter that was founded by a splinter of the Night Lords that was sent to the Imperium at the request of the Night Haunter before the Callidus Assassin executed him. It could explain how the assassin was able to escape those traitors that sought revenge for killing the Primarch. However, when they returned to the Imperium Roboute Guilliman and the newly appointed High Lords of Terra wanted to make an example of these marines for once being apart of the traitor legion. It was only the support of Rogal Dorn, heeding his brothers last wishes, that persuade the accusers of granting this Night Lord Splinter the Emperor's Forgiveness. Thus permitted to begin anew the chapter changed their paint scheme and name to hide their origins. All records of their trial were either destroyed or archived under such heavy restrictions that now in the M41 only the High Lords of Terra and a few Chapter Masters of the original legions know of their true origins outside of the chapter. I was thinking of a paint scheme that was different colors from the Night Lords but could retained the 'living lightning' theme. Any ideas? I also want to call the chapter something that sends kind of homage to the Night Lords name but at the same time doesn't completely tell you that they were once part of the Night Lords. Also, any ideas? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206465-i-need-idea-naming-and-a-paint-schem-my-space-marine-chapter/ Share on other sites
Ferrata
Just before all the screaming starts: Don’t claim your chapter is from a traitor legionThe traitor legions, how ever cool, are traitors. When their Primarchs turned to chaos, they all turned. Those who didn’t were quickly killed, or a small handful escaped on the Eisenhorn. Do not have your chapter be a section of a traitor legion which remained loyal during the Heresy or decided to switch back sometime between now and then. The Imperium is an untrustworthy place, and prefers to kill first and maybe ask questions later. Okay, so I don't argue that the DIY guide cannot be broken but I would want to ask you the following questions: Why do you want to use Night Lords gene-seed? What are you wanting it to add to the chapter? What do you want this chapter to be like? For about 99% of answers to those questions, we could suggest a better way of doing it that goes through normal gene-seed. that was sent to the Imperium at the request of the Night Haunter before the Callidus Assassin executed him. Why would Night Haunter, who is now evil, send a force to the Imperium in a non-destructive manner? It is like gifting your enemy with weapons... Spartans
Correct me if I am wrong but the Night Lords are now in the Eye of Terror and turned on the loyalist Legions who had arrived earlier in the "Dropsite Massacres" on Isstvan V. Also they are Excommunicate Traitoris as per the 5th Edition Space Marine Codex so their geneseed would not be used and would not be classed as pure. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Brother Tyler
I think he means that the Night Haunter sent the force of Space Marines before he turned to Horus' cause, possibly during the bright days of the Great Crusade when the Emperor still led the forces of Mankind in their glorious conquest. In this case, though, if the force of Night Lords had remained loyal and they survived the Horus Heresy, then their fate would likely have been the same as Nathaniel Garro's (whatever his was :P ). The question to the OP is "are you dead set on having your DIY Chapter (force, whatever) descended from loyal Night Lords?" This is highly frowned upon by conventional wisdom and the majority of members here will tell you that it is a bad idea. If you're firmly decided on that course of action, if we can't sway you, that's your decision (it's your army, after all, and you shouldn't pander to what other people want you to do if that takes away from your enjoyment of the hobby). I can provide suggestions on this course of action if that's what you want. If you're willing to consider alternatives, though, I'm sure that a lot of members here would be willing to help. Aqui
A way of getting around the points made by Brother Tyler and Ferrata, would be to start with a Loyal Space Marine Chapter, make them Traitors and then explain that they use similar tactics as the Night Lords. That way you would have the feel of the NL, but not contradicting established Canon. You could then add extra stuff that would make your Chapter/Renegades truly unique to you :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206465-i-need-idea-naming-and-a-paint-schem-my-space-marine-chapter/#findComment-2463556 Share on other sites
