Black Wolves

Origins:

Among the 12 original Space Marine Legions there was the Space Wolves. A massive replenishing of Blood Claws was due to the 9th, 10th and 11th Grand Companies of the Space Wolves, as these were completely destroyed in the assault on Gathering, an ork world in the Scarus Sector, north of the Helican Subsector. Upon replying to a distress call by an Imperial Base on the planet, The Three Grand Companies of mainly Blood Claws were completely taken by surprise and were decimated by the cunning actions of the Warlord Gutrot. Once within orbit of the planet, the Orcs managed to shut down all of The Battle Barges’ defensive systems, which included the maneuvering system. Hundreds of thousands of Orc transport carriers flooded onto the 3 defenseless Barges, boarding millions of Orcs into their hulls. This Further damaged the ships as well as slaughter 3 companies of Blood Claws. Upon receiving the report of the crushing slaughter, the Fang immediately began to produce more recruits for the lost Grand Companies.

Detaching:

Having successfully trained and raised 3 full Grand Companies of Blood Claws and their support cadre of veterans and heavy support specialists. The Entire Space Wolves Force was called to partake in the ever-seeming battle of Medusa 5. The Space Wolves raised all companies besides the 4th and 5th Company, which was to watch over Fenris in the Fang in case of an immediate attack by some unknown assailant. Inside the Ocularis Terribus, medusa 5 was sown with battle as the Space Wolves Force began its way toward the fray.
Training was conducted within the new companies of Blood Claws as to get them ready for the battle ahead. These newly formed companies were considered to be “rushed”, as to the time it would take to make an entire new company in a regular amount of time. With so many aspirants being hurried to become Space Marines, the risk of Mutation was higher than normal. The Mark of the Wulfen was already found on a number of aspirants on the way to Medusa 5. Receiving a call from a near by planet, Hydropher of the Segmentum Pacificus system, was under attack from a number of small chaos warbands. Seeking out a way to further increase the combat experience of the newly formed recruits, the Chapter Master, Logan Grimnar ordered the three newly formed 9th, 10th and 11th Companies along with the assistance of the 6th company to break off from the main force intended for Medusa 5. Seeing this as a small nuisance that 3 companies of Space Wolves could easily take care of, Logan Grimnar and the rest of the Grand Companies continued forward to Medusa 5.

The Fall:

Upon reaching orbit, ship scanners picked up massive amounts of casualties in the capital city of Hydrophur, Blokardon. The Khornate War bands had managed to breach the outer wall of the city and were now being fended off by the local Planetary Defense Force, who had managed to stop the War band halfway through the City. A massive no-man’s land had developed in between the 2 fighting forces, what was once filled with beautiful roads and large buildings, now a barren wasteland littered with crumbling buildings remained. All of the War bands were united under one Chosen Champion of Horne, named Anarkand The Red, who was an original World Eater.
Over 150 Drop pods fell into the no-mans land at the daybreak of their arrival. Almost all of the newly created Blood Claws were thrust into this battle, leaving only the 4th Company to observe from orbit. The 9th Company Captain, Ugrok Fargoth, was placed in charge of the splinter force. The fighting lasted for 2 weeks, mainly comprised of hit and run tactics by the Khorne Beserkers against the larger and more inexperienced force. In these Blood Raids, the Beserkers would strike against the Space Wolves and after a few minutes of fighting, the Beserkers would retreat back into the dark depths of the No-mans land.
At the end of the two-week period, a massive Imperial surge was planned to go against the Khornates to finish what was left of Anarkand The Red and his band of chaos warriors. During the push to end it all, Anarkand and his bodyguard of Chosen were separated from the chaos lines by a massive shelling of the PDF and Space Wolves forces. Taking refuge in an abandoned Imperial Temple, the Chaos Warlord and his squad took on waves of Blood Claws pouring through the Temple Doors. Managing to take out all of the Blood Claws except for one, a lucky artillery shell killed what was left of Anarkand’s retinue. Rising from the rubble, Anarkand and the lone Blood Claw, Corax BloodFang faced off.
The battle between the two foes rose up to the higher levels of the Imperial Temple into a battered tower. From across the field, both armies were able to view the clash of the two foes. Anarkand’s massive strength and experience of battle proved to be too much for the young warrior as he was batted aside by the Warlord. Hurling himself at the Chosen of Khorne, Corax BloodFang unleshed his anger towards the Nemesis, making him succumb to the Curse of the Wulfen. Easily bating aside the blows directed towards him, Anarkand whispered words of chaos towards Corax, as to make him angrier with fury.

Look at how your brothers leave you here on this backwash planet, while they continue forward to glory. You are nothing but a useless pup to the dead Emperor. I will take your skull and bask in your blood in the name The Almighty Khorne! - Anarkand The Red.

Becoming bored with the battle at hand, Anarkand The Red embraced the young Blood Claw in an act that you may call a hug. Squeezing the life from under him, Anarkand thrust his head up into the sky and roared with laughter and delight for his Chaos God. Thrashing around like a snake nailed to a tree, Corax did the only thing that a wild animal would do, and tore out the throat of his opponent. Standing as the victor in battle, Corax raised the body of his dead enemy into the air and gave a long howl, revealing to both armies the body of the slain Chaos Warlord. Hanging the body from the tower, Corax was approached by Ugrok Fargoth, the Captain of the 9th Company. Turning around to see his Captain offering him his hand, Corax spat a gob of blood into the palm. Seeing the eyes of his Blood Claw turn black, Ugrok knew that Corax had fallen to the will of Chaos and Wulfen. Acting as to draw his bolt pistol, Ugrok’s head was decapitated in one fell swope as Corax BloodFang sprang onto the Captain and raised the Axe of what was once Anarkand The Red. The Demonic weapon howled in glee as it fed from the blood of the Captain. Before the Commander’s retinue could bear their weapons onto the killer, Corax Blood Fang took the head of his fallen Captain and leaped from the tower into the dark depths of the battlefield below.
Days later, the Khornate side of the No-man’s land erupted in cheers and howls of “BLOODFANG BLOODFANG” as the Chaos War bands charged across the field of battle into the Imperial lines. Mass confusion spread as Corax Blood Fang was spotted amongst the Khorne Berserkers. His Space Wolf armor was now Jet Black with blood red trims; skulls of fallen Space Claws adorned his body. He was armed with Anarkand’s Axe and carried the Banner of Khorne, the head of the 9th Company Captain affixed to it. What was left of the chaos war band pushed through the enemy lines into the Imperial HQ. The PDF crumbled at the loss of their commander and routed from the city, spreading out into the area. Corax and his Khornates slaughtered the remaining 2 Company Commanders and their company command.
Leaderless and confused at the sight of a popular Blood Claw in the ranks of the enemy, the remaining Blood Claws reverted to sheer assault upon the fallen HQ building that was now occupied by the few Berserkers. A large howl brought the battle to a still, as Corax BloodFang rose to the top of the Command Structure. Raising the heads of the 2 remaining company commanders, Corax yelled
Your leaders are dead! Your command is in shambles! See as how your brothers leave you to help someone other than you! Where is your Emperor now?! I have seen the true way, and that way is Khorne!! Khorne will always be there for you, in the blood we spill, and in the skulls we take. So my question for you is, will you my brothers of Wolf, come with me to be my Black Wolves? – Corax BloodFang
A long silence enveloped. It crept throughout the ranks of the Blood Claws, causing Corax to believe that he and his Khornates were done for. A howl pierced the silence, as a Blood Claw rose to his feet, in clear view of everyone. More howls cut the air as more Blood Claws rose to the challenge. Soon, every Aspirant was on his feet, a chorus of animalistic cries filled the void of awkwardness. All those that didn't perished. Thus the Black Wolves were born.

Aftermath:

After uniting the rest of the Blood Claws into the Black Wolves, Corax BloodFang and his Khornates captured the remaining 3 Space Wolves Battle Barges and fled from Hydrophur and out of the Segmentum Pacificus system before Logan Grimnar and the remaining Grand Companies turned around and came back to catch the traitors. The Black Wolves become renegades.

HomeWorld:

The Black Wolves do not have a home world. As renegade Space marines, the Black Wolves are always hunted or are not welcomed to Imperial Planets. These renegade space marines are nomads of Space and have no home.

Recruitment:

With no constant support from the Imperium, The Black Wolves recruit there battle brothers from Space Marines that they turn to Khorne. The Black Wolves also take in roaming bands of Khorne Berserkers, uniting them under the command of Corax BloodFang.

Combat Doctrine:

Night assaults, surprise attacks are favored by the Black Wolves. After the attack has been unleashed, sheer assault is the true way of the Black Wolves. Laying in wait and springing ambushes is the most common practice, once the element of surprise is over, the Black Wolves give in to their blood lust and unleash their fury. Taking skulls of the fallen enemies is a common ritual, similar to the Khorne Berserkers.

Beliefs:

Being devoted to Khorne, The Black Wolves believe in the Blood God. Seeing the Emperor as nothing but a corpse that Imperials worship. In battle, the taking of skulls is a common practice amongst the Wolves as is Bloodletting.

War Cry:

• Blood for the Blood God!
• Skulls for the Skull Throne!
• A loud howl

I stopped reading as soon as I realized this was linked to Space Wolves... then I started to skim and saw that they fell to Khorne. ::sigh:: since I am Khorne follower I am obligated to help. I will give it a good look over tomorrow, so I swear to Angron and the Blood God. However, know that I am skeptical and you are treading on thin ice... but I am willing to help. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

The concept has promise (who doesn't want to know more about the Lost Companies), but many of the details seem to fly against established lore, both in 'non-official' BL work (the Ragnar novels) and the Space Wolf codex itself (where, as per 999.M41, there are still 12 active Great Companies). Also, the history section falls into the trap of Name Dropping.

OK time to go to town:

- I thought their were 20, or 18 (depending on how you look at things) original Legions?

- You mentioned Orca ships, do you mean "Ork?" Orcas are Tau ships.

OK, I changed my mind on going point by point, so I read the whole thing and I going give a jumping off point where we can start some banter to work this out:

I like the idea of the Wolfen being corrupted by the Daemonic influenced blood. Maybe he was possessed. I just want to let you know that all the Space Puppies are going to cry foul becuause they believe they can't become Traitor (you would not believe the nerd-rage on that topic of discussion). As Espanda Azul said, lots of name dopping not needed. I think you can create your own Great Company Wolf Lord, and have one of his Blood Claws become traitor. I would keep away from the "'newly' formed companies were considered to be 'rushed.'" It just doesn't fit well into established fluff.

I think a former Space Wolf can lead a Khornate Warband... we are just going to have tread carefully here. What do you think?

Thanks eveyone for the lovely advise and comments! I realized that not all of the blood claws would turn so I changed that text.what should I change in order to make it more resonable? Besides the wAy it's formated.

Don't use Space Wolves if you are going to be doing so many backround changes and history. I sadly do not share RG's optimism that Space Wolves can work. You are tampering too much with a Canon chapter. If you are going to stick with Space Wolves, be much more vague and subtle about the time when they were SW. Perhaps just saying they fell, and giving a brief explanation why. Don't write your own history, or complex situations involving the chapter. It breaks the suspension of disbelief. At least for me anyway. I revise my earlier statement. Space Wolves can work, but you can't go writing in entire lost companies and major battles and feasts, etc. It's doing to much with a chapter that already has tons of info about them.

I appreciate your thoughts about my chapter.the beauty of 40k is that anything is possible.I know it's pretty far fetched that 3 companies of blood claws turn, but I believe that out of any chapter novice who would turn to chaos of the chapters, it would be them. Most prone to blood lust,I think that most blood claws, if given the chance, with no leadership to guide them, would give in to the will of khorne who can give them a lifetime of what they love most at this age, unrelenting fighting! There may be some things that might make this more real in the eyes of others. Like a timeline in which this massive turnover could have happened.

Like it or not, BL books are considered cannon. They are GW dipiction of events. Meaning that the Space Wolf series is definate cannon and whats more, the most revealing source for the Wolves.

Thing with SW Lost Companies is that they'll be replaced, whether by simply building a Company up from scratchor reassigning packs I don't know.

So although there's twelve active Great Companies with the Wolf Chapter (Still prefer Legion :)) there could be uncounted Lost Companies, still serving in the name of Russ or perhaps having fallen to darker things.

I think Khorne would appeal to Space Wolves, the martial pride and thrill of the kill isn't too hard to extrapolate.

The books are canon until something directly states otherwise, thats pretty much how these sort of things generally work. Star Wars and Warhammer are exactly same in that aspect, though the former has a central story.

The Three Grand Companies of mainly Blood Claws

No, that simply does not happen. It's pretty well established that all great companys have a majority of Grey Hunters over blood claws. There is never a great company of blood claws as each great company is a self contained, smaller Space Marine Chapter. While there are individal preferances, a blood claw company is simply something thats never heard of. If needs be, I would imagine Wolf Guard from the Great company would take command and bring over any Grey Hunters who wanted to join him to reforge the company in his name.

In short, having grand companys of blood claws is impossible. It just simply does not work like that and I imagine that aspect alone would make a mass turning of the youth very hard.
