Marshal Barbarossa
Hey guys! Its been a minute since I've posted anything... I've been busy with life.. too busy... But I've finally found some time for the hobby. Anyway, here's one of my Sword Brethren. I guess he counts as the Company Champion. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/CompanyChampion.jpg Right Side http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/CompanyChampionRight.jpg Left Side http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/CompanyChampionLeft.jpg Back http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/CompanyChampionBack.jpg I'm pretty happy with the freehand and the highlights, but up close I guess I need to improve a lot... It looks really decent and crisp if I just hold it in my hand. I'll probably fix it later on... [EDIT] Here are 2 more Sword Brethren Painted around the same time as the champion, so they'll have the same flaws.. Anyway... Runner http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/Runner.jpg Right side http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/RunnerRight.jpg Left side http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/RunnerLeft.jpg Back http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/RunnerBack.jpg Dual Pistols http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/PistolsFront.jpg Right side http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/PistolsRight.jpg Left side http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/PistolsLeft.jpg Back http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/PistolsBack.jpg and all three of them... With flash http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/ThreewithFlash.jpg Without flash http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/Marshal_Barbarossa/Templars/ThreewithoutFlaash.jpg So it might me my photo skills that mess up the highlights... You tell me... Peace Marshal Barbarossa Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206636-sword-brother-champion/ Share on other sites
Rogan
Pretty pretty freehands! Especially the imperial laurel. But why didn't you do it on both sides of the helmet? There are only two things I dislike about this guy: first, the pouches on his backpack. How is he ever going to reach them? Second, the scope on his bolt pistol. Together with the shield, it may be quite difficult to ever make use of it. And of course you might need to water down your paint a little... It seems a little rough on some of the scrolls. Stu Phoenix
Forgive me if I'm wrong but it seems like you lack the patience (time?) to do the base colours neatly, it shows primarily on the scrolls aswell as the lack of colour shading, if lack of paints is a problem remember you can always mix a little black or white with the paint on a palette for darkening/highlighting, don't get me wrong the freehanding is excellent but I think you need to work on your highlighting technique and general neatness. Can't wait to see more though! :). Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206636-sword-brother-champion/#findComment-2465341 Share on other sites
Marshal Barbarossa
@Rogan thanks! I tried doing both sides, but I wasn't able to get them to match perfectly. So I decided to remove the other side, and I'm pretty happy with the result. I can probably justify it by saying that having both laurels is an even higher distinction reserved only for the very best. LOL! As for the pouches, I guess that's the best place I can put it without cluttering the model too much. I dunno about the scope, I mean who uses scoped pistols anyway? I think it just looks cool.. @Stu Phoenix I know.. My hands get a bit shaky.. I don't have problems with lack of paint. I guess I just need more practice with blending. Its been a while since I've painted anything at all, but Compared to my older models, this is definitely a big improvement. I water down my paints pretty good. The reason I think that the scrolls and cloth seem rough is because, well they are, LOL! Other than the Purity seal on his left leg, all scrolls/cloth was either sculpted or a cast. Its not the paint, its my sculpting/casting skill. I need to work on that. It sucks coz when ! look at it with just my eye, it looks pretty smooth.. but once I take a pic, all the little imperfections show up.. I should probably invest in a magnifying glass.. Thanks for the crits, guys. I'll keep your comments in mind when I work on my next minis. Myxx
Very cool posing. I really dig the dual pistols with 'sheathed' chin-sword. I have been working on a model like that, and you sir have inspired me to complete it! Cpt. Lacerus
Nice models my friend, well done. My only issue with what I see is that the axe on the first guy seems a bit plain. Perhaps give it some silver on the edge for a sharpened look? I dont know im certainly not a painter, just going by what I see. Good job though, keep them coming.
