Kapitalist-Pig Posted July 18, 2010 Author Share Posted July 18, 2010 So my first game was against a Necron Player. 3 objectives 24 inches away from each other, ended being triangle. He had a Monolith 40 (1 squad of 20 and 2 squads of 10)warriors 6 Pariahs, a C'tan not deceiver, 4 destroyers and i think a couple of wraiths. So his phase out number was 11. I saw that I could phase him out pretty quickly if I hammered his destroyers and warriors pretty quick like. Turn One I won deploy and first turn, I start in my deployement zone with everything. Had a wall of armor in front with my assault squad split. Two units on 5 man tact in a rhino with corbs got redthirst, along with a five man assault squad I split. Baal and bikes scout moved up to give me the edge on one of the farther objectives, 1 had a five man tact with las cannon sitting on it. In shooting i downed his destroyers and a couple of warriors. C'tan was behind terrain and he had 20 warriors and his mono in reserve. No assault His turn one. One of his 10man squad of warriors moved forward to the right objective. The other moved to cover the one he had near his deployment zone, followed by his C'tan. His pariahs start to make a beeline for Mephi. His shooting he hurt one MM bike with a shot, and nothing else happened. Turn Two I open up on one of his squads of warriors with my Baal pred full bore, killing 4(with WWB) I killed two more with a MM and TW bike squad. My rhino with the full 10 man squad pulls up on the objective on the right part of the triangle. Mephi is following corbs on foot while corbs was in a rhino with 5 guys. Preds move 6 inches open fire again on some warriors. hit a couple he passed all his cover saves, my las cannon traces line of site under a pred into one of his warriors, he fails his cover save warrior goes down to Lascannon fire. Not much else to do but wait till his Monolith hits the table. No assaults His turn two He gets his monolith, he deepstrikes it right in front of my rhino with Corbs in it. Moved his now 6 man squad of warriors towrds the right objective to contest it. He moved his C'tan forward and shot my Baal pred to no effect. His monolith lashwhipped one of my Reg preds and he pinned it. He rolled a one to make it not shoot. He moved his pariahs forward shot the tank corbs was in and did not glance it. He then assaulted it.To both of our suprise he immoblized it. Start of my turn 3 Mephi had to take a LD test to see if he runs at a LD of 7. He passes. Squad in rhino with pariahs out front pop out the back, mephi moves to the left to run around the monolith and hopefully take it apart. My two assault squads who have been very quite move up to assiast in taking out the pariahs. My baal pred makes a quick about face and turns to make sure the pariahs are wiped out. ( I decided they had to die so I could strand his 20 warriors sitting in Reserve) My squad in the rhino on the right objective jumps out and gets ready to take the fight to the remaining warriors. My bikes and preds take aim at the C'tan sitting just out of range of my 5 man assault squad who is right behind my baal pred so it doesnt get assaulted. Start the fire fight. I unload everything at the pariahs, baal pred and the single bolt shots and end up killing only one. I was rolling horribly at this point and am worried Mephi wont get his leadership 10 back before I try to destroy his monolith.my bikes and preds open up on his c'tan. He takes 2 wounds from the one pred and still two bikes on the table. So i begin the assault. Mephi to Monolith, 5 man assault squad into his pariahs and 5 man tacitcal into his remaining pariahs. and my 10 man tact into his now 6 man warriors. I started with the paraiahs, I wipe them out to a man with the Sang priest and regular attacks making mephi a beast again. I moved over to the warriors, and my suck rolling came back I wounded 2 models, he killed one of mine I won combat by one. He makes his LD. Now for the big thing that would decide the game. Meph made his unleash rage and sanguine sword rolls. So I roll up 1, 6 on the first roll, I get an additonal 2 on the re-roll. Mephi swats the monolith with 2 pens and a glance. I blow the monolith sky high with a 5. Now his 20 man warrior squad is stuck in reserve and offically destroyed. His turn 3 He moves his C'tan forward unloads on my valiant 5 man assault squad who was protecting my baal pred. he opens up with his full strength 10man squad on his objective. Killing one after I fail 3 armour saves. He then assaults the remaining 4 models of my assault squad wiping them off the board. We then move over to the combact locked in. He got one of his two guys back with WBB so I got 9 hes got 5. I go first and kill 4 one with no WBB. He fails to wound, rolls a snake eyes to stay in. So at this point he has exactly 11 models left before WBB I have to kill 3 models to make sure I phase him. So I jump mephi to the front of his untouched squad, and get ready to assault. I ignore his C'tan deciding that in order to deal with that it I needed to phase him. So my tanks took off and got out of the way. Mephi went in and chopped up some necron boys killing 4 of the 6 and ended up phasing him on his turn. 1-0 in the tourny got full 20 point for mission and extra points. I am worried that his 4 Lemans (3 spearhead tank hunter units) and one demolisher, would leave me stranded on the other end of the table. He had 1 squad of vets, with hot shot, and melta in a vendetta. A Lord commisar, with a I think 10+ squad, 3 russes, a 4th with I think it was a commisar Russ and a couple of regular blob squads and a demolisher. We played a modified objective game, 1 major objective (3 points) and 3 minor objectives(one point each). He wins the objective deployment, placing the 3 point one first about half way into one of the table edges. I look and think hmmmm, read the objective deployment again and laughed to myself. I placed the 3 minor objectives all 12 inches away from each other and 6 inches away from the table edges and about 20 inches away from the major objective. So all the Objectives are in the middle of the table. Making it impossible for the IG player to sit and try and gun me down as I rushed forward headlong at him. We roll off to see which table half we got. I win. Deployment was modified long table wise 18 inches from the short table edges, and 18 inches from the middle so lots of distance for me to cover. I looked the table over and had a terrible feeling... I see an obvious advantage to one end of the table concerning terrain. I choose that half. I deployed everything again two rhinos in the middle right behind them was one of my reg preds with. In the rhinos was a combat squaded 5 man with corbs, and the 10 man tact. on my left I put the bikes and Baal pred with a reg pred rightr behind it. Mephi was nestled up next to terrain so that my opp, could not shot him if he stole the Init. I combat squaded my assault units again trying to give him to many targets to shoot at. Put the first with the JP priest right behind Mephi, and the second half behind my already deployed 5 man combat squaded unit with the las cannon ( within 6 inches of Corbs in the rhino). He deployed exactly like I thought he would. He threw down his spearhead Russes right in the middle. put the manticore to the left and his other Russ to the right, flanked by the Vendetta on the left and Valk on the right. He through down his 2 blob squad behind terrain. I think he did this because he thought they would only be assault bait and drive my guys on to get into assault.He wins the scout move roll and moves first stunting my scout move. I burst forward on my left flank with both the bikes and Baal Pred popping smoke. Remember that bad feeling I had looking at the table, here it came. He rolled to steal the init (we both joked as we watched it bounce saying the whole time during setup who ever got to go first would win, and I told him he would steal the Init) ends up rolling a six and we laugh ( I cried on the inside thinking great here we go gonna get blown off the table). His Turn One The first thing he did was move his Russ spearhead units forward, along with dropping his melta and hot shot vets out of the Vendetta on one of the Minor Objectives.He then moved his Valk forward and got ready for shooting. The table was totally covered on my end making it really hard for him to throw down many templates. He ends up trying to shoot my 5 man tact that was out behind some terrain with his defensive missiles on his valk end up hitting 3 and wounding only one and I save it. He then starts to open up with his Russes. First plate on my Rhino with the full 10man squad, rolls off in front of it. He then attempts to shoot his lascannon at it and fails to hit it. He then decides to try and blow the rhino with Corbs in it, and again fails to hit it with anything. He shoots his lascannons at my baal pred and ends up hitting it once with a pen, I roll my smoke and cover it.He then shoots his vet squads at my bike with the meltas and Hot shots and kills one of them. Leaving the other behind.No assaults. In shooting he killed a total of 1 assault marine with a scatter. at this point I am thanking all the luck I had for that. My Turn One I look at the table and decide that the IG player was trying to do a horns of the bull manuever on me. I decided that it was okay with me seeing how most of my power units were slated to collapse his right flank. I move foward not wanting to give him to much time or range to shoot at my guys and tanks I full on bull rush forward with everything execpt my 5 man tactical with the lascannon as they had a shot at his valk. My rhino with corbs in it rushes forward 12 inches right behind the 10 man squad in the other rhino, which was Red Thirst'ed Meph jumps forward followed closely by the 5 many JP squad with the priest I was using as an escort for him. my preds move forward to fill the gaps in the firing lanes.With a little luck and precise gunmanship I open up on his army. My 5 man with the lascannon shot themselves a valk right out of the skies. Followed by his manitcore on the left by my pred out there. making it not able to shoot or move.Not much left to shoot at. I have in my movement created a line of tanks covering most of my left flank from his extra fire from the middle to his left. Everyone that did not shoot ran and or popped smoke. His turn 2 He moves his models the minimum to make sure if somehow I assaulted them that I would have to roll to see if I hit them. He moved his squad stranded by the valk into the terrain in front of them. He opens up again on my rhinos and pops the one corbs is in. He also kills the4 of the 5 man assault squad on the right covered by terrain. Corbs pops out to the left making it impossible for him to fire on him and his squad since they were cover by the rhino in front of them. He then pops the asscan off the baal pred. At this point I am thinking that he is going to ignore it. So I say "Great I love it when my tanks dont have weapons that can destroy vehicles now I got a rammer!" He then reacts to this threat by shooting it with the 2 remaining Spearhead Russes and the 2 lascannon shots. I thank my luck again, thinking to myself why would he do that? He got me to think that he was a soft player, and that would come back and bite me in the butt later.He shook the Baal pred making it a giant metal barrier. My turn 2 I again feeling the need to rush forward and get into his lines asap charge. The unpopped rhino charge forward and got to the middle minor objective I placed in the middle. Corbs and Company follow suit and run up behind the rhino attempting not to give him Direct LOS. covering themselves with the now shook and asscanless Baal Pred. Meph jumps up and appears right in front of his vet squad. My preds trundle frowad opening up again on his tanks. The remaining bike goes after his Demolisher. my 5 man tactical moves through cover and gain control of the Major Objective. I then open up on his tanks and vendetta. I pop the vendetta with the Melta gun that was with corbs. My bike takes out his Demolisher and I fail to hurt his Spearhead of Russes. I assault with meph and wipe the squad out. Lucky for my I rolled a 6 and got to move meph behind some discarded vendetta bits. Right now I am feeling pretty good about my chances I have the major Objective with my 5 man tact, and my one remaining assault marine closing the ground to give them some breathing room from the Lord Commisar and his squad. I also control 2 minor objectives to his one. I have my left the middle and he has my right. His Turn 3 This is where the fun happens he moves his russes back to give them breathing room from Meph who is closing fast on thier right. His entire right side has done nothing since the Valk went down creating shooting and movement problems for himself. He moves the lord Commisar forward with his squad and open up on my tact squad killing one. His russes spring to life and put down one of my Tank Hunter Preds, and immoblises the remaining Rhino. He attempts to shot down the remaining assault marine and fails with his lascannon on one of his russes.(spearhead specail rule) No assaults for this turn for him again. I am thinking he has yet to even move any of his blobs that are sitting behind terrain why is this? My turn 3 I start with Meph again Jumping over some terrain and landing on the other side of one of his blob squads. I am thinking I am just 10 to 11 inches away from the Russes can I fleet and get that extra couple of inches and take some of those russes out or should I attempt to wipe out that blob squad. I move the bike up behind the wreckage of his demolisher and jump the escort Assault squad right in front of him. I see that my 5 man squad and 1 assault marine cannot hold back that tide and decide that it is time to give them some more coverage. With the way the battle field is now I have a protected flank of vehicle bodies blocking LOS and run Corbs squad over. I leave the 10 man squad inside the rhino and attempt to repair it and do so. So my shooting this phase was nothing to great I shot some long range shots with my lone pred and immoblise a Russ. I moved my tactical squad off the hill where the Major objective to try and draw his major squad away from it. and moved my lone assault marine on top of it to claim it. I open up on his Lord Commisar squad and do 3 wounds 1 to his IC. I decide no risk no reward with Meph and roll my fleet roll he rolls a 3 and moves over. I then start my assaults. Meph has range to get in with one of his Russes and my assault escort get into the blob squad behind the demolisher wreckage. I lay into his Russ and immoblise it and take the squad to one guy who promptly runs off the board. I consolidate my Assault squad back to take the objective. His turn 4. He moves his left side Commisar Russ? Forward and opens up on my assault squad after moving his IC and squad forward just out of charge range of my tactical squad. He wipes my assault squad out and kills the last lonely surviving assault marine with a Las cannon shot. No assault again for him since I moved just right to make it hard for him to assault me. My turn 4 I, with the loss of my assault escort for Meph, decide that those Russes that are Immoblised are no longer a threat since they are tilted to his right flank(my left where meph came from) and the only thing over there was a bike. I moved my Pred forward onto the left objective to claim it, because tanks in spearhead are able to capture. I run Corbs and squad out to help the other tactical squad to maintain the objective. I assault the last spearhead Russ meph blow itoff the table and consolidate right in front of one of the immoblised russes. His 5 Him sseing my daring break from cover decideds to open up on corbs and squad and shots them down. He now moves his blob squad forward that he was hiding on the other isde of the table (his left flank) and melta'd my just repaired rhino. popping my guys out to the left as much as poosible since they were the front vehicle in my now bunch of dead vehicles. He shot a template at the squad who just jumped out and killed 5. I am starting to get a little worried. He moves his Lord Commisar forward and gets in assault range of my now depleted 5 man tact squad and assaults them. Killing all but one. At this point the major objective is contested and I have two minor one and he has one Minor one. My turn 5 Seeing how bad my situation was I did not know what to do. I was screwed. My lone marine had to survive against a Lord Commisar and his squad and I had to contest and then control the last minor objective to try and draw if that marine went down. So I drove my Baal Pred which I left in the middle of the table over to the last objective that I did not have anyone near. At this point I jump Meph over and attempt to wipe out squad/tank that was there. I went striaght into assault seeing how I had no shots to destroy anything. I went to the Major Objective to see how bad I needed to win the other assault. He rolled and wiffed with his Lord Commisar, and I killed one guys from the squad. He rolled with the remaining gaurdsmen and hit and wounded my 3 times. (Oh I prayed) I picked the dice up. (I cursed myself for being suckered in) rolled the 3 armor saves. I closed my eyes as they scattered about the table. They came up 3, 4 and 6. all saves. At this point the judge called 5 mins. I asked my oppenent if he wanted to call it since the 5 mins would be taken by the assault between meph his las Russ and his blob. He looked it over and agreed. Wow, I got lucky as hell that Game. We played a modified Dawn of war Deployment with objective getting troops tanks and spearheads over to the opposite deployment zone. This mission I was like sweet I got speed freak tanks and jump infanty I am gonna blow my opponent out of the water (I did not know what he was playing until we rolled and started deployment). Again the deployment zone was the short table edges, but this time instead of 18 inches on each side form mid, it was 9 inches. So far I have won both of the deployment rolls and counted my lucky stars. Thinking that there was no way I was gonna do it again we roll off. Bam! he rolls a 5 and my dice came up 5 as well. We re-roll his die comes up 2 again mine came up 5. I look at the table and went more cover never a bad thing so I took the side with move cover. My opponent played Dark Eldar. Man was this a knock down drag out fight to the finish. He had 6 Ravagers, 3 with the Spearhead units and 3 regular Heavy choice slots. He also had 6 of thier transports with dark lances and all reg squads execpt his HQ and some wytches. We had the choice of Spearhead units on the table or 3 non spearhead units on the table and everything eles in reserve. I got crossed and second guessed myself, which in this case ended up winning me the game actually. I Deployed my 5 man tact squad with Lascannon and the other half with Corbs in a rhino right next to them and my bikes. I could not decide if I wanted Meph on the table along with my Baal Pred. So my opponent decided to follow suit and deployed 3 squad with like 5 dark lances in them. No transports or Speadhead units. I make my scout move with the bikes and get ready for him to steal the Init. At this point I was starting to doubt I could pull it off. He has fast units and a lot more of them then me. He has a bunch of lance weapons so my extra armour advantage is swatted aside and I start to panic. He rolls for stealing the Init and it comes up 6...... Ugh here we go again, I think to myself. His Turn 1 So he opens up on my bikes kills one with two units shoting at them, and then decides that they needed to die with the third. I got a cover save and shrugged off the dark lance but took a wound from a splinter rifle I think. My Turn 1 So with my bike and Rhino out there with a 5 man tact suqd not much to do. So I rumble forward with the rhino, and pop smoke. The bike is right next to the rhino so I did not move him. I open up on his infantry killing 2 I think. His turn 2 He rolls for reserve he gets 2 of the 3 regular Ravagers and a couple of his troop transports with them inside. He moves them on and opens up on the Bike/Tank. At this Point I have all of my models on the left side. (giving him a clear pass at his left side to run them forward and claim points at the end of the game) So he has a bunch of dark lances in the middle and on his left my right. He decides to open up with them instead of moving them to get points with them. I think he was worried about my stuff coming on and getting into his regular units. So he starts shooting. He unloads at my rhino making me take several saves and finally taking it apart one piece at a time. First he immoblised it then he destroyed the weapon and Finally he popped it. I dropped them beinh trying to cover them from the units that just came on since he shout everything going from his left to his right. I got behind the rhino in a way so where he had to give my a cover save and, could not shoot them with his ravagers that came on with there Plasma cannon like shots with no gets hot rolls. He took a couple of pot shots with giving my cover and killed 1 with a dark lance . He then turned on my Bike and obliterated it. My Turn 2 I was thinking great now my armyis going to come on piece meal and give him loads to shoot at and destroy me. I roll for my spearhead units they come on, my assault marines I combat squaded them again both came on. I Still had Meph, my Baal, and A rhino with the 10 man in it. Sensing that if I left Corbs and Company out there they were going to be cut to pieces I ran them back to the middle where the was a lot of solid impassable terrain. And they huncker down for a turn or two getting ready to sell themselves for victory. My tanks roll on 18 inches and my assualt squad come in behind them and run. I pop a transport and kill a couple of DE troop choices no pin. Short turn not much to do. His turn 3 He starts to roll for reserves he gets his Spearhead units in and all but the HQ and wytches transport. They Fly on solidifying his postion. After some wiggle movement from his squad on his left to get out of terrain and moving a empty vehicle there wasn't much going on. At this point I know I am out classed when it came to speed and firepower on the table. He uses his Spearhead special rule to open up on my preds that just came on and blow a lascannon off. but nothing else. He shoots at Corbs and Company killing 1 and making corbs take a FnP and I reroll it because I knew there was nothing I could use it one that I would need. <_< ^_^ My turn 3 I am thinking to myself hey 3 up no prob I am gonna get the last 3 parts of my army on the table and roll across and slap these filthy xenos back to where ever and what ever they came from. Boy was I wrong! ;) So I get Meph and my rhino but no Baal pred. And I was hopping made that I used corbs re-roll on something silly like to save a wound. So I went on with my turn rolling forward six inches with the preds, Jumping the two squad of assault marines one of which was lost to the red thirst.And moving my rhino on the opposite side of the table to make him not want to come forward to my deployment zone, meph right behind them walking of coarse. I shoot very poorly and only shook a ravager in his Spearhead unit. His turn 4 He rolls for his wytches and HQ transport and it comes one. So now he has everything on the table and I am like ^_^ So he moves a little forward not to much as to not get to close and opens up again. He pops both my preds and kills my 5 man tactical with Lascannon off table. Fails to do anything else. My turn 4 I roll for my Baal Pred and it comes on and I outflank it into his half of the deployment zone. Damn thing took it's time getting there. So it rolls on 6 inches and gets ready to open up. Corbs and Company run out to distract half his army while the 2 assault squad and rhino make an end run to get into his deployment zone. Boy do they fall short and are out in the open to be cut down. Meph perils his wings so I trot him along (This is Big). My pred decides that the Asscan has the day off and miss with it (even with the re-rolls) but decides that the HBs gets to have some fun. and Boy does it! it blows the transport there getting ready to high tail it into my deployment zone and grant him a VP but it kills 9 guys with the blast out of 2 squads and pins the squad along for the ride. So I pop smoke on the last rhino and pray to the Dice gods of 40k let my Baal and my rhino and 2 assault squads live. I sacrifice Corbs and Company (thinking about making a TV show about them) to you in exchange for them few that will help me win the game. At this point the Tourny Judge calls 30 min. I ask my opponent (like a fool) of he thinks we can get another turn in. He says yea maybe 2. I am thinking to myself yea if you blow me off the table and I get no turn. His Turn 5 He flys his ravagers over to my deployment zone just in to get 3 points I cannot stop, he Flys his transport that Picked up his left flank squad into my deployment zone right in front of Meph. He unloads on Corbs and Company and they take a ton of shots and finally go down. His has a ravager turn to face my Baal Pred in the back corner of his deployment zone along with the wyches and HQ choice with Dark lance come in to wipe it off the table. He attempts to kill the Baal, and boy does he miss. Of the 6 rolls he rolled against it he hit twice, and then rolled a 3 and a 2 to do nothing to it. (Big time bonus because I get a point for it outflanking at this point) He kills 3 assault marines and I let my Sang Priest die so that I can sport 2 assault squads accross the finish line and hopefully have a 5-4 finish. His turn is over with 10 mins left. My Turn 5 I do not, repeat do not have much on the table. So I am looking it over and say to myself he took 20 mins in moving and shooting I can have 5 to 7 mins of the same. So I look at my options and decide that my best and nly chance it to continue with this end run and get everything save for meph over there and get as many points as I can. So Meph being the only thing that could stand between me and total defeat, aka a draw, walks up to the DE transport and gets ready to lay into it and the squad.My Rhino moves 12 inches and is in the opponents deployment zone, and my 2 assault squads one with 2 left and one with 5 left jump in to give my 5 points to his 4. I look him in the eye and tell him at this point I have 5 to your 4 with 5 mins left do you want to call it. he says finish your turn and lets see if we can get another. So I blow open his transport with meph. and in the process kill 4 of the 5 troop guys inside. I pop a transport that was right in front of my rhino stopping him from jumping over me and getting to my deployment zone. I then shoot my asscannon at his last ravager at the back end of his board edge and miss terrible again! My heart sank, I knew that this guys was going to try and get another one of his turns in and try to deny me mine. So I then assault the lone model in his troop choice that was blown up by meph and get a 6 he picks the model up and says yea its dead. So I make my consolidate move. We have just about 3 mins left and he goes to move his stuff. I say hold on there bud. I think the game is over. He says that we still have like 15 mins. I call the judge over and ask him how much time we have left and the Judge says that we cannot get two player turns in not less then 5. My opponent then trys to deny my and extra VP by saying my 2 man Assault squad does not count to the point total. I say fine you can have that squad I still have 4 (Baal Pred, other 5 man Assault squad, Tactical squad in the rhino, and the Rhino!!!) He says then it is a draw and I say sorry pal but my Tacticals squad is one my 5 man assault squad is another, my baal pred is the third and oh yea my RHINO is my 4th!!!! he looks at me and says no the rhino is a transport not a tank, and then goes wait your right it is a tank good game. Wow that was a close one. I pulled through in the end with 2 close victories and won the tourny. All my opponents were good guys! I won the tourny by I think a little more then 14 points. the next closest guys was like at 25pts and i think he got 20pts in the last game.
