I think you misunderstand me haha. I didn't mean we had to do a unarmed chapter, or an all CQC chapter. I was looking more at the mentality aspect. Strength through Focus, Focus through Battle, Battle in the name of the Emperor. An almost religious aspect of combat, where they see battle as the ultimate form of meditation and mastery of oneself, and the one true place to offer up their faith and abilities to the Emperor. That was what I pictured when I heard martial arts/Shaolin.

Yeah, pretty much this. I picture their teachings to be mastery of one's self in homage to the Emperor. The bolter is an extension of the Marine allowing to strike from a distance... etc.

That works. So are we applying this to the Knights of Gryphonne? What exactly does this mean for them as a Chapter?

O and which scheme would we use? I prefer the red and black one. Also, I dig the symbol.

I think you guys need to stop, slow down and take a deep breath.

Secondly I think you need to come up with some sort of structure, some groundwork to work within and throw more focused ideas through.

I was thinking the discipline, warrior ethos, zen type aspect of the who martial arts thing. Not the smash destroy of Western warfare, but more tailored elemental mystical level of war.

I like this. Sounds a lot like my old Bloodsworn chapter. That reminds me, I must get back to them at some stage. The reason it reminds me of them is because they were BA successors who used pseudo- Buddhist beliefs and martial-arts style discipline to attempt to keep the Black Rage in check.

They also had a lot of visual cues from Scorpion from the Mortal Kombat series. ;)

In any case the point I am driving at is that you need a more well-defined set of starting points. At the moment you seem to be moving far too quickly from one point to the next. Most of this thread is filled with one or two line posts and there isn't much to work with here yet.

Lion Warriors

Star Dragons

And then I would opt for something Eagles, Tigers, or Snakes. Clearly I am opting for an animal theme. My top choice is Star Dragons.

This is of course if we are all deciding to go for the martial arts/zen theme (which seems to be agreed upon to me).

I don't think we are really moving forward per se. I think we are brainstorming a theme and trying to put a Chapter to that theme. Then I think we will be moving forward.

I am good with the Star Dragons. The company colors will be on the pauldron rim and they will be: 1st-White 2nd-Yellow or Gold 3rd-Red 4th-Green 5th-Black as per the codex. Thats all the battle companies. It keeps going for reserves but I dont know them off the top of my head. I dont think were really moving too fast just brainstorming. I do wish it could be a little more organised though. O well, tis the internet. It says they are codex adherent but that doesnt mean they're tight arses so do you guys want to mess with any special company composition fluff or numbers or anything?

Star Dragons is fine. I think everyone needs to slow down and breath though haha :) Its been less than a week since this thread was started, and it will be a long task. I think there are probably people reading and seeing how we progress; waiting until they think they can add something. It's fine to keep going with it and toss the ideas out and start shaping it, but don't rush it, and don't worry. It'll happen, slowly but surely.
Thanks, gents. I fully believe the 'strength through focus' idea will be awesome, but semi-unarmed assault squads would be cool, too. Ok, ok, stay with me for a sec. Although martial arts can include weapons, I had a neat idea. Anyone here seen kung fu hustle? Odd movie, i know, but one of the masters in the movie used iron rings around his forearms to fight and defend. I imagine marines whose forearms are sheathed in adamantium, capable of deflecting chainswords in defense, and cracking armour in attack. Lol, like it or not, I'm already modifying a marine with this idea, I'll post it when I'm done, see what you guys think. Edited by 1000heathens
