Impetuous: Russ and any unit he joins must always move a sweeping advance after winning any combat, no matter how many turns it lasted.

 

 

Stubborn: When Russ is on his last wound, he gains +1 A.

 

Fenri and Greki: These two fenrisian wolves are Russ’ most loyal of pets and are part of the wolf family that raised him; they accompany him to battle and always fight at his side. Fenri and Greki always stay within 4” of Russ and count towards the limit of models in the case of a transport vehicle. (Note these wolfs follow Russ where ever he goes, therefore they have no use for leadership they are considered as part of the same unit as Russ at all times. They do what he does.) Foresight: It is said that Leman Russ is sometimes able to foresee the result of an oncoming battle to represent this if he is reduced to 1 wound he can foresee the oncoming attacks and attempts to avoid them on 5+ before any saves are taken but after they have rolled to hit.

 

Wolf helm of Russ: The Wolf Helm of Russ is a sacred object possessed by the Space Wolves space marine chapter. It is a helmet said to have been worn in battle by the chapter's Primarch himself, Leman Russ. Every one hundred years champions from each of the chapter's Great Companies compete in a series of increasingly dangerous contests to decide which company gets to use the helm. The helm was last won by Ragnar Blackmane, who presented it to Ulrik the Slayer as a mark of respect to his mentor. Leman Russ is immune to the instant death rule. Also Leman receives 3+ invulnerable save.

 

Spear Of Russ: The Spear of Russ is a legendary artefact of the Space Wolves chapter, which was wielded by their primarch Leman Russ. It was snatched up by the Wolf Lord Garm and used to injure Magnus the Red, primarch of the Thousand Sons, when Leman Russ stumbled in battle against him, buying Russ the opportunity to drive off the traitor, albeit at the expense of Garm's own life. The Spear of Russ is a master crafted Power weapon (Spear) which allows no armour saves and adds +2 strength.

 

The Beast Within: Leman Russ is a ferocious wolf at heart and is ruthless and unrelenting in his attempts to tear his enemy to shreds. To represent this Leman Russ has rending attacks and moves as cavalry model. Leman Russ must sweeping advance and must charge towards his nearest enemy, also instead of consolidating he moves like a sweeping advance towards the next nearest enemy. He gains +D3 attacks when he charges instead of the normal +1.

 

Combatative Commander: Russ knows how to make his wolves have the advantage and inspires them to greater lengths to the point where they develop a divine Hatred for the enemies of the Emperor. All units receive the furious charge veteran ability for free and must always sweeping advance when possible and must always charge when in assault range.

 

Warp Bolter: once a Master crafted Storm Bolter now customized and change with deadly effects against Daemons and psykers alike The Storm bolter Developed into the Warp Bolter from his journeys through the warp it has a deadly effect on anything that uses the Warp against any enemy of Leman Russ. The Basic Warp Bolter has Ap3 rounds and has three of each of these special sets of rounds (once all three of each have been used they may not be used again in that battle) which maybe Fired instead of the normal rounds.

 

Anti Daemon Round:+1 Strength. Ignores Invulnerable saves may only be Fired at Daemons(including Daemon princes) Str5 Ap3 Asault 2 12" range ignores invulnerable saves.

 

Anti Psyker Round: May only be used against an enemy unit with psychic abilities. Wounds on 2+. Str X Ap3 Assalut 2.

 

Anti Psyker: Leman Russ has a Hatred For psykers and has developed a way of Resisting the Powers of the Warp. He is unaffected by Minor Phychic abilities, and recieves a 3+ save against any (yes any) phsychic abilities that affect him in any way.(this includes Synapse).

 

Mjalnar: A huge Frost axe also developed into an anti Warp weapon it brings death to psykers and Daemons alike. It Is a Master crafted Frost axe that adds +2 strength and ignores invulnerable saves against Psykers and Daemons. Psykers within 12" take leadership tests at -2 Ld. Daemons may not deep strike within 12" of Leman Russ and -1 Initiative.

Well, seeing as how Russ is the primarch, I'd have to go with the second story. I'd have to say that WS 9 might be a little conservative even, considering Abaddon is WS 9 (...or something like that) and isn't even a primarch.

 

This is one of those rare cases where I don't think you should feel silly or like you're going overkill about making a character "too powerful." I mean, come on, it's Leman Russ-- he nearly bested the Emperor in single combat. How much more of a reason do you need to make him a total bad a**?

Yea... we don't even know if Russ is dead yet. Hell, for all we know he is in a state of superposition where he is neither dead nor alive. He's so awesome he transcends life and death. He takes Schrodinger's cat and makes it look like a poosy[cat]! I wouldn't be surprised if he could overturn cities by shooting lightning out of his arse just because someone took offense to being pissed on by his majesty...

 

If you do go crazy with him add this rule,

 

Spear of Russ: At the start of the game, roll a die. On a roll of 2+ Leman Russ gets so piss faced drunk he howls at the moon and hurls his spear in rage. Mark Russ' position. In the final turn before the end of the game roll a scatter die and 4d6 to determine where the spear lands in relation to the marked position.

Consider mostly the special rules and that fearless and ATSKNF are basically mutually exclusive.

 

I have a character I am working on for a home-grown set of rules game, to try and figure out what would work for a Dark Heresy game in case it gets played out on table top.

 

750 Should get you a few more special rules, just don't go overboard, as the stats for the model I am considering are really high, higher than those in the second group.

Spear of Russ: At the start of the game, this weapon may flung in the general direction of the enemy by Russ in a drunken stubendor. Select one figure in 48" range and roll an attack against him at a BS skill of 1. If successful, that figure is defeated and removed from the board. Otherwise the spear was left at the Fang, or given to some unlucky fellow to weild it

There was a campaign run a while ago, can't remember the name, but it was a Horus Heresy campaign. I found a PDF codex for the emperors armies, anyway, they had stats on a good few of the Primarchs. I like what they did.

 

Firstly, all Primarchs count as two models for transport purposes (except Sanguinious, due to his wings he counts as 3) And have these special rules (falls under the Primarch designation):

 

Independent Character, Combat Tactics, Eternal Warrior, Fleet, Relentless, Acute Senses, Invulnerable save 4+, Feel No Pain, Deep Strike

 

Majestic: Primarchs may be targeted by shooting even if they have joined a unit unless its a unit of Primarch guard

 

Inspiring Presence: The Primarch and all allies within 12" are fearless, as well as gaining the Counter Attack special rule if joined by the Primarch

 

Heroic Strike: The Primarch may choose to make one attack in lieu of his normal attacks. This attack hits and wounds automatically. Against vehicles it is AP1 and auto penetrates

 

Primarch Armor: This armor provides a 1+ save. Rolling a 1 is still a failure, although this means that plasma can be saved against.

 

Fallen Hero: If a Primarch is killed, brought to 0 wounds, removed from game, or another effect that causes a model to be removed from play, do not remove the model. Instead, the model becomes an additional objective in Planet Strike, Seize Ground and Capture and Control missions. Otherwise he counts as 2 kill points. While so wounded, any allied imperial units that remain within 6" gain Counter Attack and become Fearless.

 

 

Already a Primarch is several worlds of pain ready to whip it, but then comes our Father...

Leman Russ:

 

WS10 BS6 S6 T6 W5 I6 A5 LD10 Sv1+

 

Freki/Geri:

 

WS5 BS0 S4 T5 W2 I4 A2 LD10 Sv6+

 

Counts as 4 models obviously, Leman and two wolves, and is Infantry. Only weighs in at 500 points, but is meant too be used in narrative games, not a normal points driven game

 

Has Mjainar (+1 S Master Crafted Power Weapon), Master Crafted Bolt Pistol, Frag and Melta Bombs

 

Has Rites of battle Special rule, same as in Codex: Space Marine. Also has Epic Charge: +1 to Initiative and +2 to Strength on the first turn of an assault, and this combines with Mjainar to make it +3, and Counter Attack

 

Freki and Geri Get the bonuses from Epic Charge as well, plus they have Rending and do not stop Leman Russ from joining other units

 

Any unit that benefits from Combat Tactics however exchange it for Acute Senses and Counter Attack, and as a bonus any Tactical Squad can replace their Bolters for Close Combat Weapons.

 

 

I really like this, it gives a better feel than any other I have read on the Primarchs. Not to mention that According to canon, wasn't Russ supposed to rather dislike the Spear and prefer his sword, only accepting it out of honor to the Emperor? Not to mention that this was used for a campaign weekend. I don't know if you can still find it, but it was run by the Tempus Fugitives, www.tempusfugitives.co.uk.

 

Granted, while not a true tournament, or for that matter not being endorsed by GW, this is still a work made by Fans. Take it for waht you will, but again, I think it hits most of the lore about Primarchs pretty near to the head.

Didnt the Spear have a teleport homer and kept coming back to Russ? I think it should work like Arjacs hammer but longerrange(12-48 maybe?) and be assault 2 to show the fact its 1) a Primarch throwing it and 2 goes stright through the first guy...

 

Edit- Remember when a Primarchs involved theres no such thing as over the top, especiallys one such as Russ.

I would give him a similar statline as Mephiston, with higher WS... I pretty much consider Mephiston to be Sanguinius reborn, and thus a good example of primarch toughness. ;)

 

Give him 5 base attacks (with pistol, 6), but give him something like saga of the warrior born. Call it Saga of the Wolf King, and buff it out a bit.

 

With a statline like that, you can focus on making the wargear more sensible instead of over the top. For example...

 

For Mjalnar, I would have it be a regular frost blade, with the standard +1 to strength. Instead of ignoring invulnerable saves, which is a bit ridiculous, have him make the enemy re-roll invulnerable saves at a minus 1. And then no more. What you have their makes the weapon unique, and adding anything else is power creep. It's already effective because it's backed up by an incredible statline.

 

Spear of Russ... Make it a shooting attack at S7 AP1. On a roll of 6, it inflicts instead death. ^_^

That was what I came up with based off of some of your stats and some stuff I found. Used some of Ragnar's Wolves stats for Russ' as I figured Ragnar wouldnt have better Wolves. I dont understand how a Wolf would have a leadership of 6 thou so I left that part out.

Fenri and Greki: These two fenrisian wolves are Russ’ most loyal of pets and are part of the wolf family that raised him; they accompany him to battle and always fight at his side. Fenri and Greki always stay within 4” of Russ and count towards the limit of models in the case of a transport vehicle. (Note these wolfs follow Russ where ever he goes, therefore they have no use for leadership they are considered as part of the same unit as Russ at all times. They do what he does.) There stats are the following.

Body Guard: Russ may have a bodyguard of either a Wolf Guard

Living Primarch: When Leman Russ falls on his last wound he is to be left as an objective, all Space Wolves become fearless for the rest of the game from the point Leman Russ falls.

Foresight: It is said that Leman Russ is sometimes able to foresee the result of an oncoming battle to represent this if he is reduced to 1 wound he can foresee the oncoming attacks and attempts to avoid them on 5+ before any saves are taken but after they have rolled to hit.

 

Wolf helm of Russ: The Wolf Helm of Russ is a sacred object possessed by the Space Wolves space marine chapter. It is a helmet said to have been worn in battle by the chapter's Primarch himself, Leman Russ. Every one hundred years champions from each of the chapter's Great Companies compete in a series of increasingly dangerous contests to decide which company gets to use the helm. The helm was last won by Ragnar Blackmane, who presented it to Ulrik the Slayer as a mark of respect to his mentor. Leman Russ is immune to the instant death rule. Also Leman receives 3+ invulnerable save.

 

Spear Of Russ: The Spear of Russ is a legendary artefact of the Space Wolves chapter, which was wielded by their primarch Leman Russ. It was snatched up by the Wolf Lord Garm and used to injure Magnus the Red, primarch of the Thousand Sons, when Leman Russ stumbled in battle against him, buying Russ the opportunity to drive off the traitor, albeit at the expense of Garm's own life. The Spear of Russ is a master crafted Power weapon (Spear) which allows no armour saves and adds +2 strength.

 

The Beast Within: Leman Russ is a ferocious wolf at heart and is ruthless and unrelenting in his attempts to tear his enemy to shreds. To represent this Leman Russ has rending attacks and moves as cavalry model. Leman Russ must sweeping advance and must charge towards his nearest enemy, also instead of consolidating he moves like a sweeping advance towards the next nearest enemy. He gains +D3 attacks when he charges instead of the normal +1.

 

Combatative Commander: Russ knows how to make his wolves have the advantage and inspires them to greater lengths to the point where they develop a divine Hatred for the enemies of the Emperor. All units receive the furious charge veteran ability for free and must always sweeping advance when possible and must always charge when in assault range.

 

Warp Bolter: once a Master crafted Storm Bolter now customized and change with deadly effects against Daemons and psykers alike The Storm bolter Developed into the Warp Bolter from his journeys through the warp it has a deadly effect on anything that uses the Warp against any enemy of Leman Russ. The Basic Warp Bolter has Ap3 rounds and has three of each of these special sets of rounds (once all three of each have been used they may not be used again in that battle) which maybe Fired instead of the normal rounds.

 

Anti Daemon Round:+1 Strength. Ignores Invulnerable saves may only be Fired at Daemons(including Daemon princes) Str5 Ap3 Asault 2 12" range ignores invulnerable saves.

 

Anti Psyker Round: May only be used against an enemy unit with psychic abilities. Wounds on 2+. Str X Ap3 Assalut 2.

 

Anti Psyker: Leman Russ has a Hatred For psykers and has developed a way of Resisting the Powers of the Warp. He is unaffected by Minor Phychic abilities, and recieves a 3+ save against any (yes any) phsychic abilities that affect him in any way.(this includes Synapse).

 

Mjalnar: A huge Frost axe also developed into an anti Warp weapon it brings death to psykers and Daemons alike. It Is a Master crafted Frost axe that adds +2 strength and ignores invulnerable saves against Psykers and Daemons. Psykers within 12" take leadership tests at -2 Ld. Daemons may not deep strike within 12" of Leman Russ and -1 Initiative.

 

 

 

 

That was what I came up with based off of some of your stats and some stuff I found. Used some of Ragnar's Wolves stats for Russ' as I figured Ragnar wouldnt have better Wolves. I dont understand how a Wolf would have a leadership of 6 thou so I left that part out.

 

russ's wolves are his brothers and probably alot smarter than a normal wolf so thats why they would have a leadership and the same goes for ragnars too but he would of trained them instead

It is a little over the top as he would be better then Agrron of World Eaters is as a Daemon Prince.

 

He should be str 6, 8 with his sword and t 6(not a monsterus creture).

Wolf Helm of Russ should do the same thing it does for Urlik(leadership test to attack him)

3+ inv form his Belt

Spear of Russ should have a throwing attack range 18" str D assult 1 and otherwise count as a Chapter Relic from Apocalypse Str D and doubles attacks

 

Frenri and Geri should be WS 5 leadership 8(but must stay with Russ at all times so only matters for mind war or a Nerel Shredder) and if they are still alive they will drag Russ off the Battlefield so he would not be an objective or kill points.

I would also give him Saga of the warrior born.

Truth be told I would give him "Saga of the Wolf King" and make it encompass more than the one saga's effects... after all he is Leman Russ.

 

Saga of the Wolf King:

Leman Russ has the longest and greatest Saga ever to have been told by the Space Wolves, so great it is that while many struggle to emulate it, they succeed in only reaching parts of it.

Leman Russ's Saga of the Wolf King grants him the effects of Saga of the Warrior Born, Saga of the Beastslayer, Saga of Majesty and grants all Space Wolves on the board the ability to use his LD for any test they are called on to make.
