"Blood Duel" Arena of Death Competition

Recommended Posts

Well good luck to everyone and look forward to seeing your blood on the sand...

Not if my Captain punches your Captain in the face first. :)

Good luck to all involved. May the best marine win.

Also, go Liber to punish the rest of the board!

Ah, I wish I had a painted model with anything approaching a legal weapon loadout. Then I also would put mace-to-face for Liber. ;)

In the meantime:

We already know we've got the best chapters, now get out there lads, and prove it to everyone else! :)

Real life has been quite busy lately. I'm staying up late to get all of the characters in the slow forums compiled and will have all round 1 battles completed tomorrow, with batreps to follow as quickly as I can churn them out or get volunteers to churn them out.
Ah, sorry about the delays, guys. Real life has been putting more than the usual demands on my time so I haven't been able to write the batreps. We'll soon see progress on this as I'll have a lot more free time in the next couple of weeks. You might even see batreps appearing as early as tonight (depending on how much I'm able to get done with the other forums).

Chaos are based around champions and individual feats of glory, it's nice for the Loyalists to show their stripes once in a while.

I'm also extremely anxious to see the results. I really, really want my Blazing Sons Captain to come out chipper, but overall I would love for anyone entering as a Liber-ite to win this thing overall. Fluff over rules forever! *raises fist*

:cuss

Though this could easily be a good aside to write into my/entrants chapters as a flavour piece. The tournament that your chapter entered with others of the Adeptus Astartes and whether he won or not. Then again, this whole thing may well be a little unwieldy, but when has that ever stopped anyone before?

I was thinking this too ;)

Liber Astartes - Victor aut Mortis!

So while we wait how bout we give some brief history on our entrants? Such as why you entered the model, where it is in your army and maybe some fluff?

I'll start...

Lt-Capt. Markus is the web-exclusive Veteran Sergeant model with a Dark Angels power pack and soon to be modified bolter. I started to use the model as a Command Squad sergeant, but within a few battles he proved very valuable. Once I left my captain at home while I was painting it and used Markus as my captain. He performed well, despite the loss of the battle. Since then I intended to use him as a captain but due to fluff have been unable to appoint him so. I play 3rd Company Angels of Shadow (my own DiY Chapter and Dark Angels successor) and currently have a captain who I am very fond of so making Markus a full captain is a little tricky.

Fluff

Lt-Capt. markus has served with the 3rd Company for many decades, and the title of Captain is within his reach. But for now he is content to lead the Company Command Squad of Dark Master Kronus Nightshade. His power fist is a relic of the company, being passed down through the centuries and gifted to individuals who have shown prowess in combat by facing a hated foe, in Markus' case an Eldar Autach. His bolter, Predator, has been modified so that the full auto mode has an increased rate of fire. This works especially well with a drum magazine, and Markus uses one frequently. For the Blood Duel he has opted to use a regular magazine, but has taken extra clips and can reload very fast. His skill in ranged combat and close quarters is why the Chapter has selected him for this honour. Some say, however, that it is a test to see if he is truely worthy of the rank of Captain and thus become a Company's Dark Master.

Okay ^_^

Battle-Captain Hubros, is the third Miniature that I have painted recently. As I've only just started back in the hobby after over 10 years, my painting-Fu is rather rusty :HQ: However, I decided to enter him because A) It seemed appropriate that any entry I made was that of my DIY Chapters' most renowned Character (Thus far at least, I'll be introducing the Chapter Master eventually) and B ) it gave me the kick up the butt I needed to actually get started on painting anything. I haven't played any games since the last time I was involved in the hobby, so once I get enough mini's to start, I'll be back in action ^_^

Fluff wise Hubros is, after the Chapter Master, the de-facto leader of the Chapter and most likely successor. Despite the fact that he commands the Second Company (the first was devastated many years ago and because of the overly cautious way the Chapter replaces casualties will take many more years to regain full strength), he leads the Chapter in many of their battles. He's taciturn, follows the Codex to the letter and very cautious even for a Steel Wing Marine, he was indirectly responsible for the Chapters' second greatest woe (the first was the Chapters' original decimation, loss of Chapter records and very slow recovery back to full strength). After finding out that the Chapters' lost history was to be found on an Ork controlled planet, he had to make the choice between finding out where the Chapter is descended from, and preventing the vast majority of the Chapter from being destroyed.

Okay, that wasn't so brief.... ;)

Brother-Praetor Juris Fracta is the commander of the 2nd Company of the Order of the Silver Hand. Hailing from Hailenne, the most underdeveloped, yet most brutal, of the recruiting worlds in the sector under Order influence, he is the descendant of a bloodline of tribal leaders that follow a monastic warrior lifestyle; he was champion of many blood tournaments held to honor the Chapter, and to decide who would ascend and become an Initiate. (The warrior classes of the planet are aware of the Order, and are perpetually at odds with each other to prove who should be chosen next to leave for the stars.) His sword-cult preached the visceral power of two blades simultaneously wielded, something that Juris still practices actively, even decades after being made into more than just a mortal man.

He is a strong, decisive, aggressive, brutal opponent, but behind the seeming madness of the whirlwind of two spinning power weapons is a thoughtful detachment that has destroyed many an enemy. He is a man of attack and obliteration; total war is the only war. "Agis Quod Adis" - Do what you do well. He follow this to the truest form, and has for nearly a century.

Unfortunately, I'm way too busy in real life to write all of the batreps. So I'm going to skip the rest of the Round 1 batreps in the forums I'm running. I really hope to get batreps done for Round 2 battles, but if I'm unable to do that (since I start classes next week), I'll definitely have batreps written for each of the championship fights. Anyways, I've run all of the Round 1 battles for the Liber Astartes forum, with the following results:

  • Brother-Captain Galvanon vs Miguel Karitan - Victory to Karitan
  • Captain Lithotum vs Captain Bral Reiko - Victory to Bral Reiko
  • Lieutenant-Captain Markus vs Arkadi Mountainreaper - Victory to Markus
  • Chapter Champion Arkel Aldrest vs Captain Coenwalh - Victory to Coenwalh
  • Brother Praetor Juris Fracta vs Brother-Captain Hubros - Victory to Juris Fracta

So our match ups for Round 2 are:

  • Lieutenant-Captain Markus vs Captain Bral Reiko
  • Captain Coenwalh vs Brother Praetor Juris Fracta
  • Miguel Karitan gets the bye

You have 24 hours to submit your special instructions for the Round 2 battles to me.

First off - Thank you to Brother Tyler for running the matches and Congratulations to Lemainus and to everyone into the next round! ^_^

Second, a little something to add flavour for the match between Brother Praetor Juris Fracta and Brother-Captain Hubros

Before the battle, Battle-Captain Hubros felt a hollowness he could not explain. The bitterness of defeat at Jakart had left it's mark deeply even after many years. This battle would be cathartic to him; to find his way again, of atoning for his mistake and to do honour to the "Founding Fathers" and the Emperor.

The duel was long fought and drawn out. Both competitors had taken pains to counter the others moves. Parry after parry Brother-Captain Hubros made, determined to carve out a new honour for both himself and that of his Chapter. But in the end, it was all for naught. Brother Praetor Juris Fracta was too strong, too diligent in his martial prowess and left nothing to chance.

At the battles' end, Fracta approached Hubros and gave the sign of the Aquila. Hubros returned it.

"Brother, I thank you," Fracta said, "May the Emperor protect!"

"Nay, brother. I thank you. After this day, I return to my Chapter, renewed by the vigor you have shown in your victory. I thank you for showing me the way forward."

With a renewed sense of purpose, Hubros left the Arena.

Lemainus, if it's okay with you I'd like to either add this (or something better) into both my IA and the storyline I'm in the middle of doing for my Chapter ^_^

For completeness, could you tell me which Chapter Fracta is from? Thanks! And congratulations again ^_^

Go Liber! ^_^
