"Blood Duel" Arena of Death Competition

The hotly anticipated Arena of Death competition for our members begins now. The first round will involve a number of forums have smaller Arena of Death competitions to determine each forum's champion. After that, each of the champions will face each other in a site-wide Arena of Death competition to determine the overall Bolter & Chainsword Blood Duel champion.

 

In order to fight in the Ultramarines forum, your character must be created using Codex: Space Marines and must be from a known Successor of the Ultramarines Legion.

 

If you desire to submit your character to fight here in the Ultramarines forum, please submit your character as a reply to this topic no later than midnight PST on 22 August.

The intent of the special instructions is to give the member running the battle an idea of the tactics you intend for the character to use. It's basically your way of telling us how to fight the character. The stock special instructions will be generic instructions that we can apply, whereas the battle special instructions you provide for each battle might override any stock special instructions based on how you want your character to fight against each specific opponent.

Let's say that I entered my old mini-me to the competition:

  • all weapons, wargear, abilities, options, etc. - chainsword, bolter, artificer armour, digital weapons, hellfire rounds
  • Total cost - 135 points
  • Stock special instructions -
    • Moving - Stand and shoot until at 12" or less, then move and charge. If I'm further than 24" from my opponent, move minimum distance forward to get me at 30" (stand still if I'm between 30" and 24").
    • Shooting - Shoot as long as I'm more than 12" away.
    • Psyker Powers - N/A
    • Charging/Assault - If I start the turn at 12" or less from my opponent, move forward and charge. Parry once each turn.
    • Voluntary Fallback - Never

So what I've done is developed a basic set of tactics for my character based on how he is equipped. He is shooty, so he's going to stand and shoot as long as it is tactically wise. Once the distance has closed to where he is going to end up in assault, he ditches the shooting in favor of charging in order to deny the opponent the charge bonus (if possible). Since he doesn't have a power weapon or a storm shield, he is going to parry one time in hopes of foiling enemy attacks, but only one time because he needs to maximize his chances of hitting and wounding in assault.

Now if my character faced yours in a battle, he might adjust his tactics to something like:

Battle special instructions -

  • Moving - Stand and shoot until at 12" or less, then move and charge. If I'm further than 24" from my opponent, move minimum distance forward to get me at 30" (stand still if I'm between 30" and 24").
  • Shooting - Shoot as long as I'm more than 12" away.
  • Psyker Powers - N/A
  • Charging/Assault - If I start the turn at 12" or less from my opponent, move forward and charge. Parry all three times if he is charged. Otherwise, parry once per turn.
  • Voluntary Fallback - Never

The only real change was to use all three of his attacks to parry if he is charged, otherwise parrying as normal (I couldn't really think of any ways I would adjust my tactics for your Librarian).

Does that make the special instructions more clear?

I was hoping it would be that simple, that way an untrained monkey like myself wont struggle too much :)

Weapons, wargear, abilities, options, etc.: Equipped with Frag and Krak Grenades, Storm Shield, one Lightning Claw, Artificer Armor. (A warrior is as skilled as his wargear permits)

Total cost: 145 points

Stock special instructions:

--Moving - Move and run toward my opponent if I have started my turn more than 12" from my opponent. If I start my turn at 12" away from my opponent or less, then move and charge instead.

--Shooting - No gun, see movement for running.

--Psyker Powers - None. (The Warp is for weaklings)

--Charging/Assault - See movement. No parrys. (The Emperor Protects)

--Voluntary Fallback - Never. (Only in death does duty end)

Same as a Shotgun. You should remember what the range for that is, seeing as you are the scout expert, or has learning the foul psychic powers that your character will try to use made you forget that range too? :eek

--Moving - Stroll 6"

--Shooting - Shoot pistol

--Charging/Assault - Always charge if possible. Maximum Parries (As I understand that is two)

--Voluntary Fallback - Death before Dishonor! (Never)

I still have to paint my guy and i have to change his orders a little but im sure ill make the deadline.

 

Im actually surprised no-one has entered Cassius yet, the guy would own this competiton:

T6 with 4+ inv and FNP

Boltgun with hellfire shells

re-rolls if he charges (with 4 attacks)

 

edit: infact if its ok with brother tyler, ill run cassius instead??

--Charging/Assault - Always charge if possible. Parry once each turn.

@greatcrusade08: as indicated by the Arena rules, you are allowed to take special characters so long as they fit into the 145 point limit. Cassius definitely does, so have at it.

i think captain with relic blade and storm shield will make alot of appearances from the C:SM, its probably the best way to spend 145 points

Yep. That, or Libby with TDA, SS, and Might (this seems to be very common over in the Blood Angels forum, except with Sanguine Sword instead), as that is as close as one can get within 145 points to the legendary Relic Blade/Storm Shield/Artificer Armor Captain. That's why I went for something a bit different with Captain Almach.
