Adir
So I normally run a GK list with some inducted guard. However, I recently realized that with the new cheaper SW and BA gunline squads (long fangs/devs) I needed something that could reach out a touch those guys in a meaningful way. Enter the Callidus assassin... but to take her I need a "cheap" inquisitor. So I am taking an elite inquisitor standalone and will be attaching him to a 9 man PAGK squad mounted in one of the inducted guard chimeras. The question is what (if anything) should I kit this guy with? I am debating between an eviscerator and an incinerator. With the eviscerator, he would likely peel off from the PAGK and go after vehicles. Any thoughts? I am trying to keep him under 50pts. JamesI
If I recall correctly, thunder hammers in demon hunters are cheaper than in any other codex. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206949-elite-inquisitor-wargear/#findComment-2468332 Share on other sites
number6
Elite Inquisitor + psycannon = 50 pts. -_- Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206949-elite-inquisitor-wargear/#findComment-2468346 Share on other sites
Adir
If I recall correctly, thunder hammers in demon hunters are cheaper than in any other codex. They are the same cost as a codex marines power fist. Unfortunately, at S3, the hammer only hits a Str6. The evis is nice because you get the get die roll to pen. @6, yeah that is tempting... a little more punch shooting out of the chimmie. And I already have a cool tech priest/psycannon conversion... Rune Priest Ridcully
Elite Inquisitor + psycannon = 50 pts. -_- Thats what I take in 2000pts games with my Gret Knights, put him in a unit of Stormtroopers and he does well, usually earns twice his points back, that is one thing I am worried about the new codex, since they tend to strip options for charecters these days, I am worried both my Grey Knight Grand Master and my Inquisitor will lose their psycannons ;) and I like my inquisitor model, I use the old Mk1 thunder armour with a 2nd edition cloak and backpack. Actually I have been thinking about converting another Inquisitor in Mk 1 armour with a MK 4 helmet, and was thinking about giving him a psychic hood, psycannon and forec weapon and then putting him in a stormtrooper squad, what do you thin? Adir
Actually I have been thinking about converting another Inquisitor in Mk 1 armour with a MK 4 helmet, and was thinking about giving him a psychic hood, psycannon and forec weapon and then putting him in a stormtrooper squad, what do you thin? I like the conversion concept but unfortunately an LD 8 psychic hood will rarely be useful (most real psykers are LD10). Give the hood to an inq lord who has a beefy retinue to protect him! I have been known in the past to play a gunline inq lord (lord w/artificer armor, psychic hood, and psycannon, 3 heavy bolter servitors {or 2 HB and 1 multi-melta}, 2 mystics, 2 familiars, 2 acolytes in artificer armor). These guys can push out decent ranged anti-infantry and lend support against d/s-ing units (mystics). However, I have moved into a move mobile style of play so dropped the inq lord in favor of a GKT grandmaster w/retinue in an LRC. I take an inducted guard platoon (1 pcs + 20 man infantry squad + 2 chimeras), give the chimeras to PAGK and stick the 5 man platoon command squad in a godhammer land raider - scoring land raider anyone? :P I keep trying to make a TL LC dreadnought work but I just really haven't made good use out of him. So he has been dropped in favor of the elite inq + callidus. The list is pretty poor on anti armor but then again the DH always has been! Eddie Orlock
I remember once facing down reaper happy eldar. I took one with nothing and attached it to a squad. He took two wounds that would have felled more valuable battle brothers and bought a little time for the Calidus to show up and start solving the problem. Mortar squads are cheaper, especially if you have no plans to ever disembark or play a meaningful role in battle. They also leave your command squad available to issue orders to your guard. Rune Priest Ridcully
How did the Inquisitor lord and that retinue perform? I think I would use sages instead of mystics, there is not a lot of deep strike in my area, and would it be worth giving them a transport? would you say the reyinue was better then putting him in a storm trooper squad? With the conversion I am thinking of basing the psycannon on a CSM heavy bolter, have that in one hand, but am not sure what to do for the force weapon, a staff, a sword, a hammer? perhaps the company champion's sword from the SM command Squad box maybe? Adir
The gunline inq lord is a tried and true use of that squad. Works pretty well and can deter an opponent from shooting at them if your artificer armor rolls are on. Again, if you need to put a hood on somebody put it on the inq lord. The downside is the he HAS to take a retinue but the gunline version is pretty good. @Eddie, I also like the idea of taking naked elite inqs for extra wounds in the PAGK squads. I may just do that instead of kitting out one. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/206949-elite-inquisitor-wargear/#findComment-2468782 Share on other sites

Adir
Final(ish) decision... two elite inquisitors with hellpistol and CCW - 44pts! I have a couple of ash waste nomad juves (from necromunda - remember that game?!) that will work perfect as junior inquisitors working alongside the GK to keep the callidus under control.
