Army "core"

So as I'm redoing my BA army I find myself interested in three "core" units. 2 melta and pfist assault squad, 2 flamer and power weapon/handflamer/melta bombs, and some sort of tactical squad to give close support for these squads.

I was considering giving the 2 flamer squad a meltagun to help with versatility- especially if I end up fielding a tactical squad supporting them.

Also- the tac squad. I'm torn between a combat squad/razorback route and a full squad+rhino. Both have benefits and drawbacks. I'm considering missile launcher (free with the option for frags and lays a threat to light vehicles etc.), plasmagun(range goes well with bolters and can easily jump on av 12 and below. The sarg will likely have a powerfist and possibly a combi weapon.

If I go combat squad I'll likely go with a lascannon combat squad and a melta/combi-melta and powerfist riding in a razorback.

Input is definitely welcome!

I don't actually use tactical squads that much these days as you need to have 10 marines before you can have any special or heavy weapons and you can't pick two specials. If I want heavy weapons I use Devastators! Instead I have been using a 10-man assault squad, split into two combat squads, carrying two plasma guns and with a Rhino. The combat squad with both plasma guns stays in the Rhino which can move 6" and they can still rapid fire the plasmas up to 12". The other combat squad, including a tooled up sergeant, is free to roam about and support other squads where needed.

Missile Launcher > Melta gun in versatility

10 man Tactical squad is cheaper than 10 man RAS

Tact Squad meltagun is cheaper than RAS meltagun.

Why not take on tactical squad to do what you want: more tactical diversity.

I'm personally going for the pwr fist/combi melta, meltagun, missile launcher and TLAC Razorback road.
