Playing in the Bargain Bin

Recommended Posts

So recently I came into possession of a box of LoTR Elves. 24 single-piece plastics and 60% off shelf price. 24 was a bit more than I needed for D&D purposes so I grabbed my bitz box, knife and green stuff and set to work on one of the pointy-eared rangers. I came out with this guy. Here I've got him side by side with an unmodified Elf and a metal Scout-turned-Warrior Henchman for size comparison and whatnot. I plan on making 5 of these guys, and personally I think they bear a more feudal style, which would suit my Knights of Ultramar chapter just fine.

Here's a look at my experiment from 4 angles.

And a better look at the front.

Now I should get to basing those trees I have sitting in a box so these guys have something to hide in.

Sorry, but in my opinion, this just doesn't work.

Compare the size and length of the scout's arms and his head to the legs of that elven thingy (I really don't like LotR ;-) ).

His head is way bigger than his shoes - what about yours?

LotR and 40k are two different scales - 40k is heroic 28 mm (or even 32) and LotR is 28 mm... Besides, their bodys have more realistiv proportions. And of course the sculpted cloak adds even more to the bulk of the upper body, rendering the lower ridiculously small.

What about using guardsmen if you insist on running legs?

harsh man :D but yeah i actually totally agree the legs are WAY to small for the body (< doesn't like LOTR much either) even guardsman legs might be a bit out of sync. scouts are basically marines in training so their going to be a little bigger than your average person even with 40ks slightly messed up scale. but elves on the other hand are meant to be sort of thin by that standard. so yeah you see the issue. on the other hand I guess if you have the minis lying around, its a good use of them. and your green stuffing skills seem to be pretty good so you might want to try converting some scout legs. lastly IMO if your looking for medieval styled scouts id recommend some warhammer fantasy parts
