Furioso72001 Posted July 24, 2010 Share Posted July 24, 2010 Just wanted a few opinions on how you guys think this squad would do. x5 Honor Guard w/x4 flamers, drop pod - 170pts I would use them basically as an anchor to where my boat of troops are gonna be at. Jorre Posted July 24, 2010 Share Posted July 24, 2010 Would be great against nids, but the squad look sorta like one trick pony to me, If your enemy is all in transports they are gonna be useless and since they are in a pod chances are you will have to bring them in on turn 1 so your opposition is likley to be in transports or maybe in reserve. would be very easy to just charge this squad and tie them up or avoide them once they have deployed. If you need maybe in a multiple drop pod list you could make it work. Have also found an interesting loophole regarding honour guard and Mephiston. Mephiston cannot join a unit agreed; but honour guard accompany an HQ choice therefore they join Him. They are welcome to accompany Mephiston all they like, but the wording doesn't permit them to join his unit - it never uses the word Join, and accompany isn't a legal term. But his lack of IC status doesn't preclude you from taking the unit to begin with. Besides, the wording you are pointing out is from fluff and not the rules. There is no loophole - only a poor reading of the codex. Back to the task at hand - give them flamers for 170 - but keep in mind that this does not prevent taking other things, like Plasma Guns, meltaguns, powerfists of thunder hammers. A flamer/Melta unit in a drop pod (210pts) is something to be reckoned with. Although, at that point, just spring for the extra 15pts and jump packs.
