Fenrisian wolf models

Recommended Posts

It really annoys me when people suggest rubbish options for the fenrisian wolf models.

"use the goblin wolf models they are good".

"use standard wolves from different games designers, you wont be able to use them at a GW store, but thats ok".

Well.

I say:

"why not use the wargs from the lord of the rings range as fenrisian wolves, simply because they look like fenrisian wolves from art depictations and also are the right size".

Please can someone help me out here? why don't people use wargs?

(can't figure out how to paste pictures on this =/)

The Wargs do look great now that I look ant them again. If it wasn't for my local Games Workshop shop that ran out of wargs I wouldve bought them instead of the chaos hounds. The hounds look pretty cool, only down side , if you cant make a tail, you can only make about 4 wolves.the other tails are true mutated tails with snake heads etc.

How big is the wargs agianst a model?I plan on using them for normal Fernisian Wolves and not Thunderwolve cav.

nope. Wargs are too small for thunderwolves. I bought 6 of paulsons wolves, and compared sizes to a warg and the wargs would not make good thunderwolves.

Wargs come up to waist/chest height of a space wolf model, and Paulson (paulson games) thunderwolves come just above the head of a space wolf.

Wargs are perfecr for fenrisian wolves, a better choice than the goblin wolves by far.

I'd agree, the wargs aren't what I think of when I think of wolves. The goblin wolves actually look like wolves. I won't bring up the minis from other companies that I also use though. Since I don't have a GW shop within 100 miles of where I live, their bias against non-GW stuff is not so much a consideration on what I use.

what the hell is wrong with you people? Seriously?

the wargs demonstrate the ferociousness and ferocity and resilience of what it would be like to live on fenris.

Canis' wolf Fangir is not a rat wolf, read his description, he is monstrously enhanced and been repaired no end of times. I am pretty sure that if you were in his postition you wouldn't look the prettiest, but he is no rat wolf.

Wargs, when i compared them for size comparison, fit the described size of the Fenrisian wolf. The wargs are undoubtedly one of the coolest sculpts of a monstrous wolf i have seen, although they come from a different range.

I just wish you guys had the same image of coolness they radiate as me.

The wargs look monstrous, that's for sure. However, they don't really resemble wolves aside from being furred and vaguely canine shaped. They're longer legged and lack a wolf-like head. I don't think anyone is saying don't use them, just that the warg love is a matter of taste which not everyone shares.

Wargs look pritty good.. some minor painting changes or perhaps a bit of green stuff would do them good. I think the issue with the GW picture is we are focused on the color change from the brown fur to the black skin.

Now if you painted the legs brown too, like the fur, or even added some green stuff to make them furry they wouldnt appear so long.. id just make them brown myself. The head is not quite Wolf, but it is Wolf Like. You could rather easily remove that head for a head that is more wolfy, but even painting it to match the furry parts of the body i think would go along way to make it blend in better.

I thought for a moment about snipping the legs to make them shorter.. but really a Wolf that lives in a place with constant snow would be long legged.

Looking closly at the two models, the Wolf and the Worg, everything about the Word is better besides the head. The Longer legs make ALOT more sence then the short stocky Wolves. The lacking part for the Wargs is in their head, and the lack of texture and nose. They look more cat like perhaps then Dog. The snout isnt quite long enough.. I think what might be easy is to just take a sharp point and drag it down the head to fourm lines which would add the texture to play as the furr. ALOT easire then using Green Stuff too. Once there is more fun on it, i dont think the shorter snout and the possision of the eyes will bother you much.

Ok, after giving the wargs another look (and more importantly seeing the unpainted sprues) I'll concede this one. Not only could they be called "close enough" if painted right, but I could buy 12 of those for $33 or buy the goblin wolf riders for the wolves and get 10 for $35.

Hmmmm.....

they are the same price if you buy the wolf bits

Personally I don't think that any of the current GW models look like how they are represented. Fenrisian Wolves seem to be described and pictured in drawings as waist high/ almost chest high tanks rather than the slender adaptability shown by real wolves. So personally I don't like the Wargs but nor do I like any other option, I may by a pack of each of the wolves and the wargs (or one of each from Ebay if I can) then try and bulk them out with green stuff and see which one can be converted better.
