Guard/BA teamup for tourney let me know what you think

So I recently heard that my LGS is going to be having a big team tourney from our shops big time tourney guy. This guy is easily one of the top 3 players at our shop. The reason he told me is that he wanted me to be his teammate. I was flattered as I'm still sorta new to the game but no one plays more games than me. I average 3 a day during shop hours.

 

So here's the breakdown for the tourney. 1000 points for each member of the team but using a shared force org chart aka i cant take 3 fast attacks with him taking any. my teammate usually plays necrons but just finished his first 1k of forgeworld traitor guard.

 

So heres why he wanted me. Our list are synergistic as all get out in my opinion. He playing a very fast army and I play a fast army and it turns out BA/guard psychic powers are crazy together. I thought of this combo after already determining our lists. Psyker battle squad + shackle soul = win.

 

his 1k

 

command squad with astropath

3 chimeras with vets and crazy special weapony goodness

2 vendettas

2 8 man psyker battle squads with chimeras

 

mie

libby shield/shackle soul

possibly a sang preist but could drop if I need more points

3 5 man RAS with Las/Plas razorbacks with hunter killer missles

1 baal pred with hunter killer missle

2 riflemen dreds but thinking of taking 2 destructor preds with hunter killer missles (that's why I'm probably gonna have to drop the SP)

 

Oringinally were were gonna alpha srike our opponent but just in case we don't get first turn we can reserve everything and come in T 2 on a 3+ and procedd with the alpha strike. We have tons strong weaponry and great movement capabilities. His troops will be sacrificial in trying to flame out anything sitting on objectives or break our opponents lines or thin out some horde. I speed around along with his vendettas popping transports and heavy hitters.

 

I usually always gets enough numbers i nthe shooting phase to cause plenty of morale checks and his psykers bringing them down to L2 would be stupid. He wanted me to bring a cheap librarian for psychic defense whiich I had no problem with. I actually am not to fond of any of our HQ choices as razor spam mech doesn't really get to use their advantages often enough. Now your gonna say " your an idiot shield of sanguinius is awesome covers saves on tanks are awesome." but my tanks are usually speeding all over the place it's rare for anything to be within 6" of my command razor so it's sort of a waste. I've been trying out a reclusiarch but I rarely have to get out of my vehicles to CC something and it's more often just gonna give a KP to my opponent if he's smart enough to think about the points instead of "KILL LOTS OF STUFF" mentality.

 

Then shackle soul popped into my head and I was dumbfounded. My teammate was surprised too as that power isn't used very often around here. It's almost always sword/shield. imagine taking any 2 squads of our opponents and saying you can't do anything unless you roll snake eyes first. So anything that survies the alpha strike is probably gonna be useless and we can chase them off the board.

Except you're forgetting one very important piece of the puzzle. Weaken resolve says it only lasts until the end of the turn. Unless otherwise specified, turn means player turn as in the BRB. They only suffer a Ld modifier until the end of YOUR turn. So, once you end your turn and they go to move, shoot, or assault, thay use their own Ld again as the Weaken Resolve effect has ended.

Also, why so many hunter killer missiles? Every time I play them, the miss or do no damage so I have just stopped taking them altogether since they only have one shot. If they worked for you then yay :) , but they have never worked for me and I have seen very few people take them.

its a new thing I read about that I want to try. Gonna try it in my 2k razorback spam list as well. Something about having 12 unlimited range S8 missles for a first turn could really make an alpha strike more effective. It certainly isn't going to be terrible. If the vehicles weren't fast, I definately wouldn't take them.
