Modeling Chosen Marines.

Recommended Posts

What would be a cool way to model Chosen Marines? I think using normal Chaos Marines but painting them a bit different is just not really enough, does anyone have suggestions?

Why bother even painting them differently...

No on a more serious note I think this depends on your legion or warband theme...

For example if you like the idea that Alpha Legion all try to look the same but what your Chosen to stand out I've seen people paint them to look like loyalist marines (with slight hints of chaos)...

If you have Iron Wariors bionic them up...

World Eaters... basically a squad of skull champions with lots of trophies...

Word Bearers... maybe lots of religious symbols (Chaos ones...)... and things like books, torches and braziers... (I hope I got that one right...)

You get the idea...

Then you get things that are not always legion related but do can vary depending on your warband theme... such as put them in more dynamic and cool action poses... make their bases more snazzy than normal and so... give them better weapons... and I use loyalists as an example you have the command squad bolter with all the detail on it... so give them nice weapons like that (hey it is chaos maybe they even looted some imperial ones?)...

Your imagination is your limit... maybe... budget and skills as well :)

For what it's worth, I'm planning mine (Black Legion) around a combination of Possessed parts (shoulder guards/torso's/legs), regular CSM and Fantasy Chaos Warrior helmets.

I did toy with using a Word Bearers unit for my chosen but dropped it as I couldn't settle on a fluff angle to fit them in. For these I was going to base them on the robed Dark Angel model , adding helmets, torches, unholy tomes, etc.

as golden wonder said, fantasy parts, there is a conversion tutorial on here somewhere showing how to use the cool fantasy legs on PA marines.

you could have them look like the sternguard equivelent (sp?) give them more ornate armour, sights on all their guns, a few trophies?

it all depends on how you see chosen, i see them as specialists and so i give them pouches and grenades and lots of stuff to make them seem kitted out, i also use GWs metal Iron Warriors shoulder pads and metal helmets.

good luck with your chosen ^_^

I saved up all the torsos with the chainmail skirt that comes with the vehicle accs sprue. So all my chosen have a cool chainmail skirt. It was simple to do and makes them stand out from normal CSM.

I also gave em some shields from Fantasy.

I've also seen some tutorials for modelling your own chainmail, if you don't have that many torsos.

Just keep your theme in mind and keep an open mind when looking at your bits.

Imagine them as a squad of Aspiring Champions and model them as such.

Bad-ass, hard-bitten, and capable of getting any job done. Think about any action movie or video game based on a team of hard-core commandoes and roll on from there.

Bitz-box raiding is highl encouraged.

I completely agree with this statement.

It saddens me that HtH Chosen perform so poorly because I'd really like the chance to put all those unused Power Weapons into a single squad. Steal a few of the axe type ones from the SM Assault Marines sprue maybe and create a fun little assault unit.

I'm going to pick up a box of Dark Angels veterans and use those as my Chosen. I figure the robes will really help them stand out.

Like meny, I did that too.... but then i opted to play my choosen as an Iron Warrior special wep detachment within my nurgle army instead.

I've since also got a unit of bolter armed ones that were some old space crusade chaos warriors I found and needed a use for, so I painted them bone colour.

The real problem was all this left me with a spare squad of Dark Angels... I now have a 2000pt DA army!?!..... Beware!!!! :)

And here I thought I was being original by planning to use DA veterans as Chosen.

I almost fell into that trap too, when I started using loyalist marines. After reading through the DA codex, I no longer wondered why I never see them being played.

I'm doing Word Bearers, and I'm using the DA cloaks etc. for Aspiring Champions and Chosen Marines with lots of little words (read:Messed Up Squiggles <_< ) on them.

I am busy with my chosen at the mo - its cool picking up all these ideas before im completely done :D

I've based my 5 chosen on illuminated Blood Angels,

I used old termie bodies for the legs which look pimpd and some of the weapons which didnt look too bad on the slightly smaller bodies.

CSM torsos with all the extras they could fit round the waist

All bare headed for that bad ass look

All the different weapons options make it hard to choose so maybe use magnets so that you only need 1 squad and can interchange the weapons.

I agree with all the comments about being a group of bad ass champs that have seen it all and killed just as much..

Just my 2c

as spoja has suggested with his idea, go for bigger marines.

i've begun some true-scale dabblings and i think it would work well as an idea to make your chosen stand out amongst their "lesser" brethren.

the bigger size could be an effect of their being on the next rung up the ladder to the ultimate goal of daemonhood - although there's still a long way to go.

My chosen are just normal marines, but carrying tons of extra gear and trophies. Oh, and the champion has a giant banner with a massive daemonic skull on it :P

Also technically a squad decked out in that FW MkIV Maximus set would work I guess, you'd certainly have to be something special to get that in a chaos warband.

I thought it was the opposite way around? Newer marks were coveted?

Yeah actually in retrospect I have no idea why I even said that, was busy drooling over FW stuff with little to no sleep ^_^

Yep, same here ;) I was just thinking, 'I bet those guys look at their brethren with lighter armour and die a little inside'
