Lord Clinto
Has any wolfbrother here used or considered using a "Rifleman" Dread? (Just to clarify for non-Battletech savy: Rifleman = 2 TL Autocannon armed dreadnought.) I was considering making a Ven with magnetized arms and would like to hear some feedback from the sober ones here. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207323-rifleman-dreads/ Share on other sites
Brother-Captain Lucius
I'm a BA player but i take it our dreads are the same in every way? 120 pts for them? I've used them quite a bit and found them very effective at taking out vehicles of armour 10-13. sometimes i pod mine in to get rear armour shots but yeah i like them and find them well worth the price. Schertenleib
I agree. Great for popping transports! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207323-rifleman-dreads/#findComment-2472984 Share on other sites
Marshal Wilhelm
Riflemen are good. 6" every turn is not spectacularly mobile like a Baal, but it counts. Changing angles and being able to get a bead on something is very useful. I think you were talking about the Ven-Dread model, rather than paying the points for Venerable. If you meant points, I wouldn't bother, as: bs 4 = 66.7% bs 5 = 83.3% bs 4 w/ re-rolls = 89% bs 5 w/ re-rolls = 97% You are paying a lot of points for 8% more accuracy and better damage resistance. :P Auto cannons are made for AV 10-12. Transports! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207323-rifleman-dreads/#findComment-2473004 Share on other sites
whitewolfmxc
rifle men dreds are good at taking Light tanks , ork tanks / rhinos / chimeras , well also MCs occasionally if they have only 3 / 4+ saves (poor nids) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207323-rifleman-dreads/#findComment-2473092 Share on other sites
Hotspur
Riflemen were sweet in Battletech; too bad there's not an option to take two TLLC on our dreads, then they'd really be Riflemen. Fred Johnson the 3rd jr
I'm a BA player but i take it our dreads are the same in every way? 120 pts for them? 125 points. That may be the only difference. I do love 4 twin linked 48 inch attacks... Sarapham
While not perfectly comparable I would most often use a AC/LC Pred for around those points. You don't get twin-linked but you get 2 S9 AP2 shots, you cant move and fire all weapons but you have the option of moving 12", you have more front armor but less side armor and most importantly the HS slot is not as crowded most often compared to elites. The slot choice you bring up is a really good point. Lone Wolves, Wolf Guard, Scouts, possibly TWIP; too many good Elite choices. Though (as a reference) I do usually tend to bring 2 vindicators, regardless of game size. =) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207323-rifleman-dreads/#findComment-2473540 Share on other sites
Natanael
I think they are good. Havent tried one myself, but on paper they seem to be great. About the slot choice issue - i tend to have neither elites or heavy filled, and I don't think it should be hard at all to cram a dread into the list. Just remove some of your other transport-busting power instead. Timberhawk
I had heard people talk about those and it always made me think of Battletech but I wasn't aware until now that we could really make a Rifleman. Now I have to do it! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207323-rifleman-dreads/#findComment-2473692 Share on other sites
jmurph
Rifleman Dread. Such a stupid name. Fine as a Battletech reference, but when Quad-AC Dread is shorter, and actually tells the loadout.... At least it doesn't sound as dumb as "Leafblower." JCarter
I use a double TLAC dread when fighting infantry and light armor, but against some armies I switch to a TLLC/TLAC dread which makes a very very useful combination. CainTheHunter
True didn't think of imperial guard as a resource. These will be simplier to get for trade or cheaper, since AC are not the most popular option and usually are left on the sprue :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207323-rifleman-dreads/#findComment-2474436 Share on other sites

Karack Blackstone
The hardest time I have with the FW arms is storing them. Other than that if I ever decide to use them, I have a set, can make use of them as a troop and light vehicle hunter. They're quite nice, really. Just the time to ship them is a pain. And on a side note, if you're ordering Dread arms from FW, remember to get them all at once. They also have sprue pieces sticking off when you get them, so have clippers ready. Requiem of the Wolf
To date I havent used Dreads...Though the Idea of having a Rifleman (yes I used to play Battletech and I allways loved that one) to support the Long Fangs would be awesome. For me I allways Find my Heavy Support slots filled, and my Elites less so lol. Hmmm.... TLLC/AC Dread AC/AC Dread 3 LC 2ML LF With Cyclone WG 3 HB 2ML LF With Cyclone WG Whirlwind Tossing in the Dreads would add a bit more firepower (And Who doesn't like more firepower) and even more things for my enemies to worry about lol. Now the question becomes, other then 3-4 Rhinos full of Greyhunters and a Thunderwolf Lord,Maybe a LRR with WG Termies...What else would fit in well with that army? Karack Blackstone
As far as your army goes, I'd wager some TWC or Fenrisian Wolves would be in order to go with your TW-Lord. Otherwise, just try stuff out and see what works. For future post reference, that army question would make a fine topic in the army lists section. Eh.. you get cheaper and more durable models by convertin the arms like I have done. Only thing is that I only have one TLAC arm for the right side, but it was easy as pie. Take the Assault Cannon arm, cut the gun off, then stick on two IG autocannon barrels and their ammo drums. As far as storing, they fit into the same foam slots as infantry models do.
