Allocating wounds with wolves as wargear

Depends on whether the wounds are from shooting or close combat.

Shooting, the wounds are allocated to the unit.

Close combat, the IC is his own unit so attacks would have had to been allocated to him specifically.

Would even be different for an Iron Priest with cyber wolves because he isn't an IC.

You mean when a Character or Lone Wolf buys 1 or 2 of them as upgrades? Yeah, you can allocate wounds onto them from shooting and then make saves if you get one e.g. LW with 2 Wolves take 8 Bolter wounds and 1 Melta wound. You put 3 Bolter wounds on one wolf, 2 Bolter and 1 Melta on the other wolf and 3 Bolter wounds on the Lone Wolf.

In combat you must allocate attacks to the Wolves seperately.

I was trying to figure this out the other day.

So. You're saying that an IC with 2 wolves is concidered "his own unit". Doesn't that then mean that when you give an IC wolves as wargearHe can't then join a larger unit? Becuase then it would be a unit joining a unit.

If this is explained somewhere I haven't been able to find it.

@Brother Ramses: Good man for spotting that. I was gone back to thinking about the IC's wolves and forgot to add that to the sentence.

@Guganation: He keeps the IC rule and doesn't get a retinue as per the FAQ - shooting will be resolved as in my previous example but in combat you allocate attacks to either the Wolves or the Character.

I.e. an IC with 2 Wolves in a unit of Grey Hunters charges into combat with a Trygon. As the Trygon is in base contact with the IC, the Wolves and the Grey Hunters it can choose who to allocate its attacks towards.
