Adarul Greystalker
I'm looking at making a small White Scar successor army that will be very similar to Ravenwing in tactics and composition. A Ravenwing battleforce or two look like a great starting point, but I'm curious as to what options the units in the Ravenwing box have. Specifically, I want to know: What special weapon/sergeant upgrades do the bikers have? What weapon options does the attack bike have? What weapon options does the land speeder have? I'm particularly interested in the land speeder and the presence or absence of a typhoon missile launcher for it. For the bikers, I would like to have the options to use meltas, plasmas, and possibly flamers, if I do a third squad, with the options to use both heavy bolter and multi melta attack bikes and some close combat weapons for some of the sergeants. So those of you with experience with this set, will I be able to do all or some of this with a Ravenwing battleforce or will I have to go searching for additional bits? Thanks. CrushThem
I myself bought 3 of the Ravenwing Attack squadron boxes and was sorely dissappointed. Great bargain for number of guy's you get, but as far as special weapons (melta, plasma, flamer), none. You do however, get powerweapons for the sgt's. No plasma pistols for'em though, sadly. You get the multi-melta and heavy bolter options for the Attack bike. As far as the speeder, you have the option to create an all plastic Master of the Ravenwing, create a tornado with only the assault cannon option, make a typhoon, and also give the speeder either a multi-melta or heavy bolter. You also get 3 of what i'm assuming is the Dark Angels vehicle sprue and bases for all your bikes (the nifty rounded off ones). Hope I helped ya. Dave Rogers
It's worth mentioning that you get three of everything on the Ravenwing specific sprues, which includes three Typhoon missile launcher sets and enough bits to add assault cannons to another six land speeders. Apart from six power swords, though (which are all left handed), as the last poster said, there are no personal weapons at all; all the bikers just have two hands on the handlebars. One set will likely give you all the land speeder upgrades you'll ever need, and for the rest you're probably better off with vanilla bikers. breng77
I have to disagree on the being better off with Vanilla bikers. RW Battleforce is $90 for 6 bikes, an attack bike and Speeder, as well as all of the bits. Vanilla bikers are $45 for 3 bikes. Unless you know you are never going to use the speeder and attack bike, there is no way that the Vanilla bikers are a better deal. Consider this 1850 list ( not one I would run but as an example) Sammael on speeder 6 Bikers AB Speeder 6 Bikers Ab Speeder 6 Bikers Ab speeder 6 Bikers AB speeder All bike squads have 2 meltas and a PF sargent. Buying 1 Battle force and then everything else separate you pay $580 Buying 4 Battle forces plus a speeder and then the extra bits will run you about $400-450 depending on if you have bits lying around, or have to buy them, or trade for them. Adarul Greystalker
Thanks, guys. Very helpful. That's good news about all the land speeder upgrades, but it looks like I'll have to get some melta/plasma packs. That's no big deal, though.
