Big Papa Bjorn

So what do you guys think of using the Spacewolf Venerable Dreadnought from Forgeworld with their Nurgle Powerclaw to represent his Fell-Hand? I realize he had is real hand cut off to avoid the taint spreading when he was hit by a chaos sorcerer but I thought with a bit of green stuffing you could take out its overt chaosy-ness. I think it would look pretty sweet given the right paint job but what's your opinion?.

What's this? Is there some fluff somewhere that says Bjorn cut his own hand off? Where is the reference for this?

According to Lexicanum it's in "Horus Heresy (Artbook Series): Collected Visions Pg. 240". Chief Custodian Constantin Valdor is said to have cut it off in order to stop the taint. I would think it is in the burning of prospero since that is when it's supposed to have happend.

Interesting, but annoying at the same time. I've been playing Space Wolves since Bjorn was invented and have never heard anything about him losing his hand, especially nothing about it getting cut off to avoid the spread of some Chaos taint. Since it is in some art-book series I think I'll just have to continue to ignore it and move on. Nothing to see here.

no mix up from the pup, it's stated quite clearly bjorn held out his arm so the custodes could cut it off, stopping the taint to spread any further

I just find it incredibly inane that Bjorn the "Fell-Handed" lost one of his hands. That is worse than a guy named Canis riding a dog, or everything in the Blood Angels codex being named Blood "fill-in-the-blank". I mean seriously GW.

It does make sence with the vikingy theme though. Almost all space wolves have an aftername thing that relates to them. I read that art book too and though it a good bit of fluff. Gives a distinct Tyr feel to Bjorn too which I also like. though I agree the blood stuff for BA's is pure ridiculous haha

He already had that when Russ himself gave Bjorn the "Fell-Handed" moniker for frakking people up with his Lightning Claw (Bjorn used to sport a single Lightning Claw in Power Armour way back before it was vogue).

Yeah I know this but am saying him losing said hand makes no difference to his name. They didn't add in that bit to explain the hand more that's just a coincidence. I thought u were saying that you had a problem with him being called Fell-handed having lost his hand.

On a diffrent note I love Bjorn and its seeing his banner all them years ago that stopped me going chaos or nids (i was torn between the 2) till I saw Bjorn and his banner and though "Yes, I want you!" 11/12 years on and I still love that model and banner. Shame his charms worn off game wise though. 2 games 2 insta deaths in 1st round of combat. Once to a demon prince, didn't realise they got 2d6 for armour pen and his Initiative let him down. even the inv and re-rolls did nothing. 2nd time against gabe seth, tore him in half with wrecked, re-rolled to explode and didn't even kill anything with the explosion :Troops:

Back on topic, I have just gotten the ven. dread to use as a new model, hoping for better luck. I wouldn't use that nurgle arm though, looked hidious. I like that claw arm on FW but I think you'd have to place the claws into a more bjorn'esque position.

What's wrong with big metal bjorn? Don't they sell him anymore? (Maybe he is just labled Space Wolf Venerable Dreadnought now?)

Nope they don't sell him any more, though I have noticed him on ebay on a number of occasions for decent prices.

Nope the actual Bjorn model is no longer for standard retail sale. Fleabay however may earn you some luck.

Blast! I was ninja'd

That's who I'm using for Bjorn. I debated using the FW vennie one. I see no problem using that as well. Although Bjorn is shown in the newer armor, who is to say that he would not be transferred to the older FW armor after something tore his current dread body to bits.

Of course they're not selling the old Metal Bjorn. Most, if not all metal dreadnoughts are replaced now, since people kept dropping the things and injuring their feet and making holes through several floors.

I'd personally prefer to make Bjorn out of an Ironclad kit.
