jeremy1391
Ok so I'm going to my local GW today and plan on picking up some more tac squads but how many do I need? I have one already and have 3 RAS squads is three and three a good balance?
MadGreek
Depends on what you are looking to field as "Troop" choices. It is nice to have enough of each to make 10 man squads if you want. Also, TAC squads are used to beef up Devestator squads as well. On a side note, whatever you decide I would replace 1 box with a Death Company box. The bits can be used to "Blood Angel" out both the RAS and TAC Marines.
JamesI
A lot depends on your play style. I currently have 3 assault squads with jump packs, another without packs, and 1 tac squad (could build another if I felt like it but most of those figures will go towards a Sternguard when I build it) Personally, I like assault heavy, so I go with it. Others do better with tac heavy. I'd tryboth before spending too much money.
Andrew_Beck
Dont see almost any reason why would anyone favor TAC over RAS in BA Codex. They simply exceed in everything, except shooting but for this you got other slots. + discount on vehicles. Therefore screw balance and RAS,RAS,RAS,RAS,RAS. Grey Mage
Id use the same ration as the old GH to BCs went best, but in reverse. IE 2 tacticacls to 3 RAS.
jeremy1391
So RAS seem to be the crowd favorite....... I think I might just go heavy on RAS and take a few sternguard so I'm thinkin Dante sanguinary guard Librarian with jump pack honor guard RASx4 sternguard x2 in rhinos 2 baal predators 2 regular dreads devastotor squad what do u think? Yeah, all you really need to do is switch the paint jobs... Though giving them fancy helmets from the SG box couldnt hurt.

For me, I don't do the colored helmets, I designate veteran status in the shoulder pad. So I'd do that, and also get them some fancier bolters to distinguish them. Sang guard torsos on them would look good
BLACK BLΠFLY
My army I am running now is built purely for assault, which is fun... But it would be nice to have some long ranged shooting besides Stormravens. I used to field assault squads versus tactical squads at a ratio of 1:2 with the PDF codex; I am thinking 2:1 might be a good ratio with the new codex. You can always just forgo tactical squads and field Devastators in their place... The Devastators are cheap if you go all missile launcher and that way you an pound a couple targets with multiple shots. What I have found to be very strong for Space Wolves is the combination of Wolf Lords on Thunderwolves, Thunderwolf cavlary, Grey Hunters and Long Fangs. The Long Fangs are hard to touch with the Thunderwolves shielding them and Grey Hunters are a solid scoring unit that is also quite strong in close combat. We could do the same thing with our assault squads and Devastators plus some uber assault units lead by powerful characters such as the Sanguinor & Mephiston. So I don't really see the need for tactical squads but then again they have their place if you want to build your list that way. 0b
Emperors Immortals
I take tacs in a razorback for support roles, i find the HB with 12 bolter shots can do alot of damage. Also, a tac squad in DP can really help clear and anchor a landing zone in conjunction with DoA RAS - personally i drop them i with 1-2 dreads kitted for shooting and they will clear the area fast. Then again, im still from the era when assault squads were difficult to make and hard to field. (2nd ed. im looking at you!!!).
Zeller
Add studs to the tacs to make them Sterngaurd. Also, try heavily gearing them up with ammo, pistols, unique sheathed weapons, scopes, drum and box mags, ect. I take tacs in rhinos or on foot as main infantry. The RAS are used as to charge forth into enemy lines and kill asap.
jeremy1391
The way I turn tacticals into sternguard is simple I've aquired several MK4 chest plates and use them in conjunction with the bolters and shoulder pads from the death company box so they are very fancy looking "tactical" marines which is what sternguard are essentially . Other than that I plan on giving them gold helmets and will call it good.
