Celestin
So, I've had a small Daemonhunters army sitting around for a while, and I'd like to get some work done on it, mostly for show, but it would need to be playable as well. My questions are regarding a number of non-DH units I would like to use as DH units: Eldar Rangers as both a counts-as Vindicare, and as a Warrior for a retinue. The idea was to paint them in the same black/red/gold scheme and same basing as the rest of my Daemonhunters so that they're clearly part of the army, but would that still fly with most players if I actually fielded them as such? The bottom middle one -does- look very similarly geared to a Vindicare, and both top left and bottom right look like they'd fit in perfectly in a retinue. Empire Battle Wizards as various Retinue slots, likely Acolytes and/or Mystics. My main concern here is making them 40k enough. I was planning to give a chainsword and laspistol to one, which would definitely identify him as 40k, but the other I was planning to give a book and an Imperial standard. Would a bionic eye be enough extra for the second one? And what would you recommend to add for the first to more closely tie him to 40k? Planning to do two new Inquisitor models, one that can work as either a Lord or regular, and the other clearly a Lord. Here's the various loadout options I'm planning, any feedback on which should get which would be great. Lord: Terminator Armour Either: Power Armour 2-handed daemonhammer Force staff + psycannon/bolt-weapon with psy-ammo Psyber-eagle (purely for show, actual familiars would get their own base) Bionic arm/leg/head (idea being that the model would have a Two-Face type look, with the dominant colours swapped across the centre line, with bionics on one side and organic on the other. Also, for Armageddon games... what sort of counts-as Drop Pod type vehicle do you feel would most fit an Inquisitor Lord? I was thinking some sort of personal shuttle that he would deploy from via a retractable ramp, but where would I get good reference pics to keep it 40k-ish so as to not resort to some other sci-fi setting? chaplain belisarius
hi! thats a lot of questions-ill try to help! great idea on the shuttle (but he would use a drop pod too if you arent prepared to make him a shuttle, or he could ride a thunderhawk-hes an inquisitor, he can pretty much do what he wants!) so long as you 40k the warhammer wizards up a bit-no problem. regarding the eldar rangers-as part of an inquisitors retinue...maybe(rare but not impossible-write a really cool backstory explaining why?). Regarding using a ranger model for a vindicaire-id be ok with it so long as i was told (and u had a great reason why?) but it depends on your opponent really... hope ive helped! Myxx
Forgeworld makes several shuttle-type craft. I have thought about picking one up for my Inq. Lord. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207461-a-few-questions/#findComment-2474841 Share on other sites
Celestin
Forgeworld makes several shuttle-type craft. I have thought about picking one up for my Inq. Lord. The Arvus Lighter has a ramp, and does look nice, but it's also a bit pedestrian looking, isn't it? The Aquila Lander specifically mentions being used by Inquisitors, but is far more expensive, and the disembarkation method isn't quite what I want. But yeah, with either of those, I'd rather at least keep -close- to the price point of a drop pod if I can. Celestin
So... having gotten no response regarding suggestions for my two Inquisitors to be... I've planned out one of them in visual detail, and just need to flesh out a background now, though that shouldn't be too difficult, since he'll be quite distinctive: Inquisitor Wayefet Covrah Entirely bionic on his left side, his face and limbs will be mechanical, and the armour on his left side will be painted differently as well, black with red and gold highlights where bare metal isn't expose, whereas the armour will be red with black and gold highlights on his right side. His armour and accoutrements will incorporate both Inquisitorial seals and snake symbols, and his cape (currently planning to do an off-white) will feature a pair of cobras (one red, the other black/mechanical) flanking an ornate Inquisitorial seal. His right (non-bionic eye) would have an Inquisitorial seal tattooed over it, obscured by the blue-white glow of an activating psyker power... similarly, the open book he would be holding in his right hand would have several lines of text glowing as he reads the passage to invoke whichever power he is using. His left hand would be holding a force rod capped with a cobra, with the cobra painted red on one half and black/metallic on the other. Lastly, he would have a shotgun or other ranged weapon slung across his back over the top of the cape. Thoughts? Eddie Orlock
Eldar Rangers as both a counts-as Vindicare, and as a Warrior for a retinue. The ranger would probably be fine, but I would be left thinking 'Why?' when it came to the Vindicare. As a retinue member, it'd be an all right fit model wise, but the sniper rifle might cause you some grief. Maybe if you converted the outcast to hold a different weapon? The Battle Wizards fit in just fine without modification beyond a round base. There is no need to forty-kayify them in any way. The Imperium is a diverse and often backward place.... similarly, the open book he would be holding in his right hand would have several lines of text glowing as he reads the passage to invoke whichever power he is using. ...Thoughts? Depending on who you talk to, reading a passage to invoke a power likely crosses the line into the banned art of sorcery, marking them as a tainted radicals at best, damned heretics at worst. If this is what you're going for it could be a subtle but effective way of achieving it. If you're more into the puritan side of things, you might want to rethink it a bit. Um, you know of Puritan Inquisitors who would ally themselves with xenos Eldar for any reason whatsoever? Though honestly, I was intending it to represent a Grimoire of True Names, which is exactly the sort of thing even a Puritan would use to weaken a daemon. Even during the Crusade, Xenos were the enemy of Mankind. The -best- that nonhumans could hope for was to be too little of a threat and too far away to attract the attention of the Crusade. Also, it seems a rather radical idea for an Inquisitor whose speciality is the Eldar to work -with- the Eldar to learn more about them so as to write better treatises on why the Eldar must be destroyed...
