Tip of the Spear

I am working on building a hypothetical 5000 point Apoc. list and wanted some feedback on what feels more Space Wolf.

Looking through the Apoc. book, I feel in love with the Thunderhawk gunship. It's just so of kick@$$ that I want to use one someday. With space for 15 termies, I just want to blow stuff up and have these brutes come out and assault in the same turn. Sounds just right up the alley for Space wolves. However, I remember how wolves like to 'fight on the ground.' That is why the don't use teleporters, etc.

Versus an armored spearhead of three landraiders with termies in them. A lot of armor, a lot of hurt. This keeps them on the ground and would certainly be a house full of pain for anyone.

Both are really expensive points wise but what is your idea?

Hail brother,

I would prefer the LR variant anytime. Based on experience, the thunderhawk is a pain in the *** gamewise, while looking good on paper <_< .

I'm really happy for having tried one before purchasing one.

Brother Ramses suggestions are all aces in my book, but you should really consider "the Ancients" or sth. datasheet for having an entire SW army with the outflank specialrule, full of win this is ^_^ .

Three Vindis are nice too. I tend to go nuts with the Wolfguard what results in fear of them in my opponents, which I like ;) .

Because of real-world considerations like the sheer expense of a thunderhawk, the fact that the molds wearing out badly, and that it cant really be used as anything else, Id suggesting the spearhead of landraiders.

Oh, and you have to land to unload- wich means everything on the field is gunning for your AV 12 900pt monster.

If you just want a Terminator transport, the Land Raiders are the way to go. Most of the Thunderhawk's survivability comes from being a Flyer, and to have non-Jump Pack troops get out it has to turn into a normal Skimmer, which makes it a huge fire magnet.

However, the Thunderhawk is very powerful when used like another Flyer. I have been on the same team as a pair of T-Hawks twice, and the sheer dent in the enemy that they make is well worth the points. I don't know if the Turbo-Laser Destructor upgrade is in the Apoc Rulebook, but it is in the IA 2 update, and it is well worth the points to get a flying D weapon. I think the most essential thing to do when playng with a Thunderhawk is to ignore the transport capacity altogether, unless you stuff it full of Jump Troops.

So for a Termie Rush I woud go with the Land Raiders, but for sheer awesome I would go with the Thunderhawk.
