Destroyable Terrain Pieces

After having re-read the buildings/ruins section of the BRB pg 77, I realized that in my games at the GW store we have never been able to destroy the buildings we use as terrain. I'm just curious to know if you all have used these rules as written and what your opinions are on destroying ruins etc.

We go with the tried and true method.

1. You and your opponent agree on the Armour Value of the Terain peice. If its a bastion its a 14, if its a shack its a 10 etc.

2. You treat it as an immobile vehicle (you automatically hit).

3. You roll for Armour Pen.

4. If you glanced it, roll a d6. On a 5+ it falls and all models inside it or on it take an S4 hit.

5. If you penetrated it, it falls and all models inside it or on it take an S4 hit.

6. Any models/squads which took a wound test for pinning.

7. Go find another building to smash.

I do it A LOT with my Lone Wolves, nothing like kicking in the door to a bunker, jumping in at the Chaos Marines hiding inside before cracking the wall and bringing the building down on the lot of them.

Building is treated as "Stunned", the squad inside is unable to leave the building next turn or shoot, as they dodge the falling masonry.

Or nothing at all, depends on the situation. For example if a Bolter glances a shack, nothing but if a Powerfist hits it they are, for all intents and purposes, stunned.

I like this idea but the thought of a guy walking by a shack or w/e else is av10 full of enemy and firing his bolt pistol into the buildings wall for it then to collapse on the enemy seems abit much. I wanna do it, but it seems daft haha. I guess you have to use common sense and agree with your opponent if something is abit too far fetched.

The rules are actually fairly specific when it comes to the buildings themselves. If you are using normal city ruins, for example, their AV should be either 12 or 13 (see pg 79 BRB). Also, the damage results are straightforward: hits are treated just like on another vehicle, except that results 1-4 are ignored. Wrecked (or "more wrecked") buildings become both difficult and dangerous terrain. Annihilated results will reduce the building to a crater (i.e. that IG heavy weapons squad shouldn't have camped out near those old fuel tanks...). This is especially important to vehicles ramming into buildings.

My reason for starting this post was to see if, in fact, anybody actually uses these rules or just treats buildings/ruins as impenetrable objects.

remember you can only target a concealed building (not ruined buildings etc) and only if there are enemy inside , and the effects of what happens when you pen or glance is listed in the rulebook already and the previous posts here , but basically treat it as a tank with Armour value (depends on what type of building has different Armour value)

Also remember if the enemy is on the roof top and you shoot at it , it counts as open top (the building)

The BRB does state that you can destroy intact (and occupied) buildings, but is not that specific with ruins. In other words it doesn't say one way or another if you can target ruins. However, since you can ram into ruins with vehicles, it stands to reason that they should be affected the same way as buildings. If you can ram it, you should be able to shoot it as well. Obviously, you can't start blowing up random, unoccupied buildings (even though that would be fun), but has anybody come up with a precedent for ruins vs buildings?

There is no rules on blowing up Ruined building or it having an Armour value , seriously you blowing a ruined building turning it into ..........a more ruined building ? There is no such thing as ramming a ruined building (unless its your house rule) , its just saying your tanks can still drive through it but have to take a Dangerous terrain test

just treat it as difficult terrain or dangerous terrain
