Clarificaion Request: Feel No Pain

I understand that feel no pain doesn't work against close combat weapons that don't allow saves, AP1/2 weapons, and unsaved wounds that cause instant death. However, I'm a bit confused by some of the other diction, specifically, "any other wound against which no armor save can ever be take." Based on the examples that follow, it seems that this speaks to wounds taken from weapons that never allow a save. Is this correct, or does it refer to weapons that don't allow a save in certain circumstances, e.g. AP3 wound against a plague marines?

 

On a side note, does one get a save against instant death weapons? Would a TDA marine/HQ get his 2+ against a krak missile?

It means Wounds which specifically deny Armour Saves for everyone (things like Perils of the Warp, Dangerous Terrain or certain Psy Powers). Plague Marines do get a FNP roll vs. AP3 weapons, provided the AP3 Weapon does not cause Instant Death (e.g. you can FNP Vengeance Rounds, but not Krak Missiles)

Yes, of course.

It means Wounds which specifically deny Armour Saves for everyone (things like Perils of the Warp, Dangerous Terrain or certain Psy Powers). Plague Marines do get a FNP roll vs. AP3 weapons, provided the AP3 Weapon does not cause Instant Death (e.g. you can FNP Vengeance Rounds, but not Krak Missiles)
Somewhat incorrect. A Plague Marine can indeed take a Feel No Pain roll against wounds caused by krak missiles, as they do no cause Instant Death on their Toughness 5. Here's more examples (for Plague Marines):

 

Get FNP? (if not, why?)

Bolter: Yes

Vengeance Rounds: Yes

Krak Missiles: Yes

Battle Cannon: Yes

Hellstrike Missile: Yes

Demolisher Cannon: No (AP 2 and double toughness)

Stormeagle Rocket: No (double toughness)

Plasma Gun: No (AP 2)

Meltagun: No (AP 1)

Power Weapon: No (ignores armor)

Dangerous Terrain: No (ignores armor)

Rending wounds: No (AP 2/power weapon)

 

Also, you always get your armor save unless the hit is from something that's AP value is equal to or less than your armor save, or a power weapon, or something that always ignores armor (like Dangerous Terrain). So power armor can take armor saves from Stormeagle rockets, as despite being Strength 10 it's only AP 4.

 

If it does ignore your armor save, you may still always take an invulnerable save if you have one and it's not a C'tan hitting you, or you can always take a cover save if it's not a template weapon or something else that ignores cover hitting you.

Er... Seahawk, Plague Marines are like bikers in that they have a toughness of 4(5) rather than a natural 5... so a krak missile would indeed splatter one into chunks with no FnP save.

Exactly - even Nurgle Bikers, who are T4(6) can't FNP vs. Krak Missiles.

 

I continually have to explain and re-explain this matter to Chaos players.

 

EDIT: Likewise, Battle Cannon are S8 and cause ID to CSM w/ MoN and/or Bikes
