Bikes and Lances

Hello all,

I plan on investing in some bike squads for my army. My group is more of the hobby side, so I wanted them to look good. I wanted to give them the feel of knights mounted on horses, and so was planning on giving each rider a lance.

My question is this: how do you suggest I go about modeling these lances?

I had the idea of using a tooth pick as the core, then bulking and shaping it with green stuff, but I have never really been good with the stuff. I also though about using some lances from WHFB, since warriors of chaos are about the same proportions as space marines, I was going to try to find something from that line, but I didn't want to have to purchase a kit where all I take are the weapons and don't use the rest, and I can't barter them from a group member because none of them play fantasy.

Any advice any of you can give would be appreciated

I, having just started a fantasy Chaos army bought chaos knights first as i love em and the lances do look like they are around the right size of a spess mahrens arm. A friend of mine is doing a vanilla bike army and he uses the Bretonnian knights lances and even they dont look like they are out of porportion to the body. Even if they wear chainmail.
Thats a good idea, though while looking for conversions I found that Brettonion lances seem to work, plus found a tutorial on combining SM helms with Brettonion helms, which certainly look good. Also, had some really slow service from people I have ordered bits from on ebay, some taking more than a month when it says they will take a week. Meh, you never know though.

Well the Ravenwing battle force is the cheapest way to get bikes because you get 6 bikes, 1 attackbike, and a landspeeder for the same price as 6 bikes plus the winged fronts would fit the blood angels theme to me.

I saw a cool conversion of bikers using the greynight PA halberds bits they sell separately if you don't want to go the full lance conversion. Otherwise brettonians could definitely work the best since dark elves and chaos would not fit the cleaner style of blood angels.

I love this concept, and have done some work in it myself: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...50&start=50

Inspiration came from another BT player, who used Chaos pikes I believe: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php...ge=21&pp=15

Bretonnian lances are better for clean, formal appearances associated with Astartes in general. Chaos lances are cruder, nastier versions without heraldry, not the sort I would think the aesthetically minded BA would care for, but they might fit the Death Company well. I cant recall ever seeing DC Bikers before, much less knightly ones, so it would be original as far as i know ;)

As for outlets, I used these guys and got a pretty rapid delivery on the cheap: http://stores.ebay.com/Hoard-O-Bits

Edit: High Elf lances and Dark Elf lances form the fantasy line might work too, though they're kinda flimsy/thin looking at a glance. Again, the HE version is bejeweled and fancy, perfect for BA, while the DE version are a bit nastier and possibly more DC applicable.

@Nemesis Lord: Yeah, I was thinking of the ravenwing kit. I actually have some GK marines around here somewhere, but I think if I wanted a halberd look I would go with the White Scares' biker box.

@Firepower: Thanks for the links. When I compare the HE calvary lances to that of the Brettonians, the HE's actually looks more solid then the rapier-like ones wielded by the Brettonians, but they certainly look distinctly Elf-y. I think I will go with the Brettonian lances, even if most people who see the paint scheme of my army are unsure if they are loyalists or chaos, (they are loyalists).

Also, if the DC get jump packs, I think they should also have a bike option. Fluff wise, difficult to come up with, but turbo boast removes lack of cover and that is the only reason I don't have them in Jump Packs. The only way I could think to even have a death company fluff bike squad would be to use the blood claw bikers in the SW codex, and they are nothing compared to real DC. *shrug*
