xa0s
Since it's fairly obvious I'm a Deatchwatch fan (for a long time), I realized I'm not quite clear on the Sternguard entry in regards to HB's. Are the HB eligible for the Special Issue Ammunition?
stinkenheim
nope, only bolters and combi bolters can use it.

Are the HB eligible for the Special Issue Ammunition? Just quiety...why would you want to give Sternguard a Heavy Bolter. With the Death Watch rules they had suspensors and could move and shoot. With Sternguard it is just a regular HB and why would you want to have a HB or indeed any heavy weapon with the stern guard when they are a rapid firing unit, where you will need to move to get into that deadly 12" zone. The heavy weapon would just be wasted. (Unless it was a heavy flamer but then it would be an assault weapon.) Perhaps it might be fluffy but HB's would not be terribly effective in a Sternguard unit. Leardinal
Aside from the fluff, my group advices that all squads that don't move quickly carry at least 1 heavy weapon. For instance, if you are using scouts to alpha strike vehicles, give it a sniper, if it kills the vehicle and nothing else is around, the squad can still contribute instead of just walking across the board. Odsox
they dont even carry Hellfire shells! I hope you don't mean Heavy Bolters don't carry hellfire shells. The Scout entry in Codex:Space Marines states that a Scout with a Heavy Bolter can fire one Hellfire round instead of the standard per turn. Because I already have an existing Ordo Xenos kill team with HB (which I have one more section to add the "long rod" to make it like Aliens movie's suspenser type), and I also have a rhino with Inquisition marks on it. Just don't want that HB guy in my Ordo Xenos squad to be gone to waste. 'sides, the Lamenters are known to be good with dealing with the Tyranids, post-Hive Kraken incident. So, HB and Flamer-type are most likely to be utilized against the 'Nids. EDIT: Not to mention I also have NIB Ordo Xenos squad which has the HB (it's from the deathwatch kill team-legit days years ago). So I'm trying to see if it'd make sense to have two sternguards in two rhinos (thanks to their flat out speed capacity) or one 10-man sternguard in one rhino. Just want them to be feasible and useful and fit well with the fluff of the Lamenters.

Anyway about feasibility...yeah you can have a HB but as this topic has pointed out, no special ammo. If you have modelled one marine with an alienistic HB I woul leave it as that; my original post pretty much says it all about HBs and Sternguard. I guess it all comes down to fluff. Do you want a cool unit or do you want an effective unit?
