Ironfang Terminator pool

Working like crazy on my terminators lately, since I realized just how terrible they were set up (3 too many heavy weapons based on the old codex)

So, here's what I got so far. The first five are my Lord's Honor Guard, and are default picks as his retinue unless I need to do something different. My wolf Lord himself (as a terminator) has a hammer and stormbolter. In PA, he has a frost axe and plasma pistol.

1 - hammer/shield (63 pts)

2 - wolf claw pair (48 pts)

3 - stormbolter, powerfist, cyclone launcher (73 pts)

4 - Stormbolter/powerweapon (33 pts)

5 - stormbolter/chainfist (48 pts)

After that, I've got:

- hammer/shield (63 pts)

- hammer/shield (63 pts)

- wolf claw pair (48 pts)

- wolf claw pair (48 pts)

- assault cannon/power weapon (58 pts)

- Stormbolter/wolf claw (38 pts)

- Stormbolter/chainfist (48 pts)

I hope to think this is a good mix up for whatever situation comes up, and that the weapon choices fit my more aggressive playstyle. It's about time I get cracking on my termies, because I really could have used some in my last game.

I'm not totally sure about the cyclone launcher, but the mini is painted and based and I'm hesitant to rip him apart for re-arming.

Cyclone Launchers is awesome, you can always put him with the Long Fangs to provide cover fire for the main bulk of the force, I would hesitate to say that he was useless. He is brillent in ranged and melee combat, the power fist may be useless in Long Fangs, but even then it would make an assualting draw blood for each long fang defeated. Even in the wolf lords group, if he's on foot he can provide cover fire from pretty much anywhere on the board. I would say he would always be useful, no matter what squad he's in.

A sheild on a hammer seems a waste though, one wound means it's too expensive to take hits on, very much a last resort measure. I would rather give the Wolf Lord the shield considering he will be singled out in melee combat a lot, unless you give him Saga of the Bear, and leave the hammer with the stormbolter or a combi weapon so he can assist in ranged combat.

Never considered Combi weapons though? For just 5 points you can put flamers, Plasma and Meltas on a couple of your stormbolters at very little extra cost. Which is useful on the odd occation, if you wanted to drop pod them and what not.

Chaos Terminator combi-weapons are cheap and cheerful.

You only need to file off the spikes, and (if it bothers you), chop off the chain ammo feed and replace it with a regular or square bolter clip. They also have "chainblade bayonets", which only adds to the overall badasstitude.

Combi-weapons are great. You'll be doing most of your fighting at 12'' or less, so you get your 2 bolter shots either way (yay relentless!), and the extra melta shot to drill a hole in something big and upsetting.

I like this setup:

TH/SS

Chainfist/SS

CombiMelta/Claw

CombiMelta/Claw

Heavy Flamer/Claw

You get some rerollable attacks, an antivehicle S8, a thunderhammer and 2 3++ saves. And some shooting and a template to soften the enemy up and make them roll more saves. You're equipped for both hordes and hard targets, and your only problem is, alas, initiative.

Personally I quite like the CL, but I don't see any point in having a stormbolter when you have a CML. I accidentally made a model with CML/SB/PW ut since then I have always used Wolf Claws instead.

I like to have one or two termies with Storm Bolter/Storm Shield so a relatively cheap model can take the scary shots while they are en route to Close Combat...

The good thing about having both a storm bolter and a cyclone is that you can fire both in the same turn (SW codex p. 30)

Stormbolters come as standard on Space Wolf Termies, it just means we are able to shoot more effectively over 12 inches with all the effectiveness of rapidfiring bolters over the entire 24 inches, though that being said, power weapons for all as standard makes them more ideal in close combat. I think the effectiveness of the humble PW is often ignored and pretty much forces Termies into melee, otherwise they waste the points spent on the weapon and ignoring the ability of the flexable stormbolter.

Since he can chose to fire both, he does not lose anything, and already costs a fair bit anyways with just the Cyclone missle launcher. No point making the long range specialist more expensive to work in close combat. Only thing I would consider giving him is a combi-plasma, so he can rapid fire before the charge, or with long fangs as a cyclone is pretty much wasted in a normal Temie squad, Heavy Flamer and Assualt Cannon is typically more effective in those sort of squads.

i would drop the fist off the cyclone as hes getting really expensive at that point just keep him with his standard equip and the awesome cyclone.

remember our termies come standard equipped with power weapons not fists as weird as that is. otherwise not that bad. as said either saga of the bear or a shield for your lord.

two power swords, two power axes, two thunder hammers, two storm shields, 4 wolf claws, 2 stormbolter its a refutable haven of extra bits however do to a f up in the terminator arms the sword or axe generally goes infront of the model for some stupid reason.

however though i saw a somewhat decent conversion where a person had used the thunderhammer handles and removed the smashy bit and added a blood angel sword and it didnt look too bad (could actually help symbolize Leman Russ's wolfguard who used harpoons for some reason at Prosporo). the same could be done i guess for termie rune priest and wolf priests (just add a wolf head or a wolf totem of some sort to symbolize the crozius (although njal is by far the best looking terminator psyker ever made and simpler to use him (the model not necessarily the character as he is quite expensive.)))
