New Toys (also for the DA :)

Recommended Posts

Besides the MK III iron armour set and 'vintage' special weapons and bolters, FW brings out a new assault craft, which is, according to the experimental rules a Fast Attack choice for SM armies, including DA

Rules can be found here:

Oh, and pictures here, it's the mystery spacecraft from a while ago

This made me stop and think for a moment.

This could be used in a drop-pod army in lieu of Land Raiders, I suppose. The teleport homer option could be useful. The Caestus lacks the firepower of the 'Raider, though the big blast template of melta fire is nice. I also don't like that the missile pods are one-shot wargear. The other issue that I have with it is that it may be selected as a fast attack slot, meaning that you will have to burn a turn boarding it as a transport.

Overall, I think it is a compromise vehicle that does a number of things, but none of them very well. It might work in Armaggeddon games with very large tables because of the 36" move, but that's the best use that I can come up with.

Yeah, the idea of a rocket-powered vehicle ramming something as anything except a suicide attack is pretty ludicrous to me. It makes sense in space, or possibly even in the atmosphere or undersea. It is, after all, a baby boarding torpedo. Large structures that it would ram would probably break open. A ground-based vehicle, though, might break up when it was struck, but I can easily visualize some debris catching in the ground, puulling at a corner or side of the ram plate, and then the Caestus flip and spins out of control until it crashes. And that's being somewhat generous.

I know "it's just a game," and you have to bend the rules of physics in the name of science fiction, but you can only do it so far. Go any further and it becomes silly - like a jet that rams tanks. ;)

It sucks our Terminator squads are capped at 5, otherwise, this would be a great Turn 2 charge.

Well, it transport capacity is 10 PA marines or 5 Terminators, so normal DW squads are fine. Belial and the squad he joins will still have to either use a LR Crusader or Deathwing Assault (or walk ;) )

While it looks fine and the rules are interesting, it's still more points than a BA Stormraven. I can't see me buying one anytime soon. The Mark III Iron Armour is stunning! I will be adding a few packs to my collection.

Actually it can hold 10 terminators, so Belial+IC+5 is valid.

Heh, it does say that in the special rules, doesn't it? That seems unprecedented and perhaps likely to change? It's been established in most every case that TDA because of it's bulk simply takes up space.

Maybe is should hold 15 and TDA counts at 1.5, lol.

Anyone spotted the new Iron Armour that is being released? It look absolutely stunning and isn't too expensive, I think I might have to invest and sprinkle the marines throughout my normal Tac squads. Or just have them as one uber squad. What do all you guys think of them?

Yes I have and I concur. Make a cool looking DA Veteran squad maybe?? Or the Consecrators?? Linky for those that haven't seen.

Thsee suits immediately shouted DA and Consecrators to me as well!

Having had a good look at the new Foergeworld armour variants (and with more on the way) I'm very tempted to begin a drop pod Consecrators force (complete with rumoured great crusade/ heresy style dreadnought)

Forgeworld and my money! A match made in heaven!

Its a good thing you wont have to then- a squad can always be deployed in a transport that isnt dedicated, provided there isnt a special rule preventing it- such as TDA not being able to go into a Rhino.

That Ceastus as is is a typical FW product, beautiful piece of work, but just so broken.

Never allow that in a tounament if you have a say about it. (Unless I have them then I can win.) B)

That thing is overpowered. 36" move, so guaranteed charge next turn. 10 terminators in that transport bit, ramming ability, anti melta paint, AV13, AND an assault vehicle. I could probable break about 80% of all armies I'd play against with that in my lists.

Yeah just a little bit broken krewl, confined to massive battles of Apocalypse I think, where the odd Warhound or two could take it down. I am a little bit disappointed with the Corvus armour, as their is little point in doing it in my humble opinion as you can make them out of the Tac squad box, but apart from this all the new armour looks magnificent. If I pass my exams I am going to treat myself to 5 Iron Armoured marines and if I fail my exams I am going to console myself with 5 Iron Armoured marines. Hopefully option 1 will happen :D

My chapter the Red Scimitars specialises in void boarding actions and these craft are exactly what I was looking for for a transport.

I was looking for designs of a Shark-Class boarding torpedo which is like a drop pod that is fired at an enemy ship but I haven't found anything as yet.

I think the Caestus is perfect for my army and I intend to have four or five made from plasticard by the endo f the week.
