Wildfire
In response to the OP's question, as far as I'm concerned the biggest problem with taking multiple TWC units is the lack of FA slots. FA is almost always the first thing that gets filled in my lists. A WL takes no FA slots, so is therefore to be prefered over a second TWC unit. And Skyclaws are very good. They just compete with a lot of other great units. If they could take a WG, they'd be one of the best FA choices in any 'dex. Valerian
And Skyclaws are very good. They just compete with a lot of other great units. By fluff, I understand why Kelly precluded them, but by in-game playability, he really boned over the unit. They are still viable with a Wolf Priest or other HQ choice attached (as we have covered above), but it would be nice to not have have to have an Independent Character with them to make them viable. I really would have appreciated a change in the Errata to allow WGLs for this unit, but alas, it was not to be. As to your other point about a tight Fast Attack FOC section, I've got one unit of Sky Claws, one unit of Swift Claws, and a Land Speeder Typhoon, so I don't have too much pressure in this category. Where I have a hard time choosing is in the Elite section, where I have a full Wolf Guard Pack, two Wolf Scouts Packs, two Dreadnoughts, and at least one Lone Wolf. I obviously can't take them all, so I have a big delimma trying to pick which three units I want to go with for each game. Another army list issue that I think Kelly screwed up is by taking all Dreadnoughts except Bjorn out of the HQ section. I would love to be able to play one or two Venerable Dreadnoughts as HQ's, especially since we can take up to 4 choices in that FOC slot. Wildfire
See, that's where we differ. The only Elite I would always take is WG for squad leaders. I'm not a fan of the new Scouts, I'm not a huge Dread fan now that Vindi's are the only decent HS vehicle, and I'm not a huge fan of the Lone Wolf. I would really love IPs, if only they had a transport option. So Elites is probably my least favorite section of the FOC. And really, if it were so bad for WG to be flying around, why do they have a jp option at all? Why do HQs all get a jp option, one would think what's bad for WG would go double for Lords and the like. If nothing else, why do WGBLs get the option to join Skyclaws? They're just WG chosen to lead a force, according to fluff. No, fluff is not the reason that Skyclaws get no WG option. It's either an oversight which GW blindly perpetuates, or a deliberate strategy to keep Skyclaws from being too good. I don't see how you don't like the Scouts; they are one of my favorite units, I love 'em! And really, if it were so bad for WG to be flying around, why do they have a jp option at all? Wildfire
I loved the old scouts, when you got two plasma pistols and a meltagun for what you now get just a meltagun for. And I'd frequently take a second squad for a 66 point infiltrating missile launcher. Well it could be explained that some Skyclaws actually made a pretty good career for themselves and prefers Jump-pack during their potential WG/Hero years etc. And the fact that WGBL/Lords can join them I think has more to do with Phil Kelly not wanting to completely screw them over, which would also force them to have more special rules denying ICs and such.
