Thoughts and Opinion requested

Recommended Posts

Hey folks.

I've been looking at Forge Worlds new MK III Iron Armour, and I am really liking them. So much so, I am strongly concidering buying a set. I was think of adding one or two figures into each vet squad (Vanguard, Sternguard and Honour Guard, but not Sanguinary Guard)

My dilemma is. Would some of the oldest and long lived Space Marines of probably the most Aesthetically vein chapter in the Imperium, still wear this MK III Iron Armour?

I'd post a link to the figures in question, but I'm making this post from my PS3. So the option is not available, sorry. I'll try adding it later.

Really appreciate any thoughts you folks my have.

Thank you.

Well, consider that a veteran might pride himself on his relic armor. It would be greatly detailed and embellished. There is also the problem of replacing the chapter's entire line of armor. Surely like other chapters there will be older marks in the ranks, especially among the folks you want to use the figures for.

Besides, maybe there are a few marines that like the rugged look more than the cleaner Mk 5, 6, and 7 armor.

A thought just struck me. I'd imagine that the chances of a marine having an entire suit of any one Mk of armor is unlikely. Bits and pieces here and there migh tbe more realisitic.

In before *lolrealism40klol*

actualy there may be a good idea to putting them in a squad cause this armor is still used by ceramonial gaurd u can read about it here. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Power_armor i i got them (which i will soon) i would field them with pride as a stern guard models.
I think that most older chapters would have some sets of older armor. I would see giving such reveared relics to vets. Especially given that they're a first founding group the BA should have a few sets sitting around. I don't think vanity has much to do with wanting to wear the armor of a hero who stood with the father of your chapter. It might help. Id say go for it myself. It also looks like there's a MKIII helmet in the dc set with some BA embelishments and some MK III stuff in the IW upgrade pack that isn't too chaosy looking if you want to mix and match a little.

Someone else has beaten me to it but I too am pretty sure that one of the DC helmets is a MkIII Helmet. I also think that the BA would still have access to this armour and that is may be lovingly resotred and revered. The armour of Heros is sure to be an attractive option for upcoming heros.

Someone else said it but you could share the parts around. I think that some of those veterans may have more pieces then others though

I mix and match all marks of armour to give my chapter that "cherished artifact" look. Even a younger chapter would use such armour, as many of these old suits have quite a history as relics from an age long past, or as a connection to their parent Legion, and carry the weight of the ancient, honourable warriors long dead. Just give the suits to astartes who have proven their mettle (Vets, Sergeants, etc.), and they will give your army a sharp appearance.

Hmm, some good points.

As I have already started my BA force, I don't wish to start a Pre Heresy army (some day down the line possibly). Also I think it would be a little costly for me just at the moment.

Thinking about it, I do think that it is very plausable for a veteran to have a great deal of pride for such a set or even piece of relic armour from his chapters history.

So I think I will do as I have said, and split them between several veteran squads. Possibly splitting the individual pieces of armour over more figures. Although... I will be doing at least one, possibly two suits of full MK III.

The Helm in the DC kit I think is ment to be a Stylised version of the MK VI or VII, made to resemble the MK III. I say that as the one from the DC kit has the earphone sides and the vent on top, where as the MK III doesn't.

Conciquencely I have decided from what you have told me, that I will indeed be purchasing a set very soon ;)

Thanks for the help guys. Your replies are very much appreciated.

Ive decide I will pick up a set or 2 at somepoint for a fancy display army of Herest era BA well it will be a battle scene of The Gate battle wi Sanguinius and Sang guard and a unit of these with some of the packs from um that othersite that makes some stuff the "are not" 40k things *having a brain fart and can't remember the sites name*

I'm starting to think that (as beautiful as it is) the Mk III armour looks possibly a little too brutal for the more elegant looking Blood Angels, I think the Mk IV and V armour would be better suited to a post heresy force?

Any one else think the same?

Or is it just me? ;)

I'm of the same feeling as you Keith, not really for me for a BA force unless you built your army around them heresy era. Maybe some characters though B) And what about Flesh Tearers? I'm sure with depleted rescourses they may drag a few suits out!

Lovely sculpts though, just not very BA sorry
