Glory for the Wolf Scouts

My scouts and attached wolf guard with thunder hammer came in on turn two. Since the tau had yet to reveal their vehicles, the scouts came in on my left and assaulted a squad of 3 plasma suits with shield drones, and the commander with retinue of suits and drones. They held them up for one and a half turns, slowly being whittled away and not doing much damage because of the drones. Then, at the bottom of turn four, with only the thunder hammer and the wulfen left, they won the combat and the squad of plasma suits broke ranks and were cut down as the fled. Only the hammer survived the next phase, making eight saves. He responded by winning combat and again butchering his foes as they fled. Not yet satisfied with his tally, he assaulted a transport that had finally arrived before being cut down by a pair of rail gun suits.

I lost the game by one kill point, but my 170ish pt unit brought down 495 pts of the enemy. Moral of the story, wolf scouts make the world a better place, a place where a Space Wolves player can relax and enjoy a nice ale while warming himself by the funeral pyre of his opponents point heavy units.

*Raises beverage to the all the scouts out there causing all kinds of Emperor sanctioned mayhem*

Do you use 5 or 10 usually? I've not tried them, but suspect they would be great. I just worry about the survivability of 5.

I use 5 plus a wolf guard with a hammer/combi-melta. I haven't had too much trouble with surviving, the 4+ save is still rather good. However, I don't intend them to last much beyond the turn the come in. If they pop a transport and tie up/kill the squad inside or equally disrupt a long range unit, they can go to Russ in peace as far as I'm concerned.

I've been running a pack of 5 + WG with hammer and combi-melta and I found that I want the pack to be larger. I've finished converting and painting the expanded pack and will be running 10+WG. I have yet to experience them in a game, but my general feeling for expanding their pack was - yep, they are quite resilient even against tougher foes or those with higher initiative (of course not against Daemon Princes or C'tans), but if there had been more of them, they would have performed better and lasted longer. And since every oponent, having faced them, pays extremely attention to this unit, bigger numbers look scarier and distract fire from GH Rhinos.

Good points.
