Gubnutz Da Grim
Well mono god is sometimes hard to pull off. That being said it is a very fun army to play and theme is important to me so I like Mono God. As far as purchases, you will never go wrong grabbing the Bloodletters, I would say that 30 is a good start as it allows you to field 3 blocks of 8, no bonus for this of course but it looks cool. So you have 3 Troop choices. Bloodthirster is another no brainer as this guy can really help with dealing with Armor, flying, loads of attacks, Monstrous Creature he has it all in spades. Not sure what you are going to buy 2 Soulgrinders and 3 DPS. You only have 3 heavy slots so need to pick 3 and stick I would say. I like Dps as they allow for dealing with Mech, can have flight, looks awesome and are fun to model and paint. I would look at taking icons in all 3 troop blocks as well. Pretty soon you will be able to buy boxes of 3 Bloodcrushers in plastic and this would be something I would add when that time comes. They are great looking, and bring the pain. Good luck with the army. Gub Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207682-starting-a-khorne-daemon-army/#findComment-2477616 Share on other sites

Black_Crusader
My thought of a mono khorne army would be something like: 2 Bloodthirsters: you need them basically for the tank hunting. All your units are good in close combat so you shouldn't waste an HQ slot on a herald, even if he is skulltaker. I prefer soulgrinders to daemon princes because they can give you a little shooting wich is better than no shooting at all. They are good tank hunters as well. You should try at least 2 soulgrinders with phlegm. Maybe a daemon prince for third slot would be nice. Four bloodcrushers are a solid unit. I wouldn't try to many units like that though unless you are playing at very high point games. 30 bloodletters is a good start. I suggest you gather all the other slots first and then come back to troops if you are sort on points. Captain Kratos
I agree with Black_Crusader. Take 2 Bloodthirsters. Although Khorne heralds (and skulltaker in particular) are awesome when tooled up, Bloodthirsters are the best HQ choice for a mono Khorne list. They'll hack anything to bits, including heavy armor (which is the bane of daemon lists). Some guy driving around in 3 landraider crusader/redeemers can really ruin your day. While Skulltaker can only scratch his initials in their paint job, the Bloodthirster will cleave a LR in two. And... if all your thirster managed to do was kill a landraider, he's earned his points back. I also agree about the soulgrinders. Take them over the Khorne daemon princes. Khorne DP's get the short end of the stick as far as sweet upgrades go, and are the weakest of the DP's available (which I guess is only fair since Khorne gets the best greater daemon :) ). SG's are a little tricky to deploy due to their large footprint, but give you great versatility against enemy armor or troops. A fleet, ST10, AV13 walker is nothing to snuff at. BS 3 is lame IMO for the daemon army's only vehicle, but 2 of 3 weapon options are templates which offsets their mediocre BS a bit. I find that SG's consistently get the job done, and all for less points than a tooled up DP. 2 Soulgrinders + a DP is a good compromise. DP's are cool, and I understand your desire to field one! :) Bring them both in your 1st wave, as whatever enemy anti-tank weapons will be leveled at them. At least both coming in and getting their first shot might minimize the return fire they'll receive. Bloodletters are a must (obviously), as are some bloodcrushers. Use your bloodcrushers to screen your bloodletters. Bloodcrushers are highly survivable, while their smaller cousins are not. Priorities should go like this: Bloodthirsters + soulgrinders take out enemy armor Bloodcrushers + bloodletters take out enemy troops I'd normally leave flesh hounds at home, but in a mono Khorne list the have their uses. Take Karanak, deploy them near some cover, and run them up behind it. Their low silhouette often means (if you're lucky) they might even be hidden from sight. Then on your next turn blast through the cover and charge some juicy gun line unit like a devastator squad, etc. Hounds aren't Khorne's finest where close combat is concerned, but they're more than a match for some dev. squad. :) Use them to tie up/destroy vulnerable enemy units that if left unmolested will blast your army back into the warp, to tie up speedy enemy assault troops so that your other assault units can catch up and finish the job, or to catch your opponents speedy units that the rest of your army would have difficulty chasing down (eldar jetbikes, ork deffkoptas, Tau battlesuits, etc.). (edit): added the part about Flesh Hound uses... Godhead
I like blood crushers and minimal troop choices. Blood crushers can be tooled up to be a complex unit for wound allocation shenanigans, and then i like to drop in a herald and skull taker with 2 of those squads. They'll live far far far longer than your bloodthirster and be more killy over all. Bloodletters do the same job as the crushers but only get their 5+ invul save. I prefer to drop them somewhere safe and out of the way for scoring purposes. I have become a fan of running the full up upgrade on my soul grinders. Tongue is str 10 ap1. I will bust a tank quick like. BS 3 is the only drawback. It still ends up cheaper than a winged DP with the stuff you'd like to have to make sure they are the threat they should be. Hounds in a mono khorne can tie up shooting units with their 12 inch charge and the ability to fleet move. Then it's about how you drop your stuff in and when they show up. The bloodthirster is a huge target and eats tons of high str shots. Soul Grinders are a pretty hard nut to crack with front armor 13 and being immune to stunned and shaken. For a khorne list.. I recommend 3. Plus there is absolutely NOTHING better than battle cannon shots on troops. I makes me giggle. I'll also drop the pie plate on a rhino and the like as well to get things out of vehicles. Howloutloud
Hmm... thread is over 4 months old. But seeing as how I'm a huge Khorne fanatic I'll go ahead and give my 2 cents  1. First things first, you have to consider your points value, are you playing 1k, 1500, 1750, 2k? The reason for this is extremely simple. Certain units are going to do a heck of a lot better at different point values, ie, I would never use a unit of hounds of khorne at 2k, but I might use a unit or 2 at 1k. 2. Is this gonna be a take on all comers list or is it going to be for a specific army. Basically if you take your army to the LGS to take on a tau army and instead end up playing against a blood angels list... you need to be aware of these kind of things. 3. How competitive are you wanting to be? Are you planning a couple of games with a group of friends or are you going to a really intense tournament? That question alone will make a huge impact on how you make your list. Granted all 3 of those points need to be considered no matter which army you play, but by playing a pure Khorne Daemon list you have to look at them even more carefully. Personally I like to play fun games with friends and play at 2k. Got tired of the tournament scene during 4th (I mean seriously? you really feel you have to violate the spirit of the game that much to get a tiny edge while playing?) Because of this I tend to take units that might not always make sense. My 2k list uses a Bloodthirster, Skulltaker and Herald on Juggernaut (if I were going to play competitive it would be 2 'Thirsters) 30 to 40 bloodletters, some hounds, some crushers and 3 daemon princes. I won't take anything that either isn't entirely dedicated to Khorne or can't be. However if I were to do mono Khorne as Competitively as possible it would probably look something like this: BloodThirster w/ Unholy Might BloodThirster w/ Unholy Might 4 Bloodcrushers w/ Icon, Fury, Instrument 4 Bloodcrushers w/ Icon, Fury, Instrument 4 Bloodcrushers w/ Icon, Fury, Instrument 8 Bloodletters 8 Bloodletters Daemon Prince w/ Wings, MoKhorne, armor, Unholy Might Daemon Prince w/ Wings, MoKhorne, armor, Unholy Might Daemon Prince w/ Wings, MoKhorne, armor Comes out to slightly less than 2k, as thats what I'm used to playing. At 1750 or 1850 I would maybe lose a daemon prince and Unholy Might from the 'thirsters.
