What is currently the most effective 1500pt pure GK list?

First thing, we all know GK currently suck. Yep, we are the worse force this side of necrons, we all know it. Those of us who aren't willing to buy a whole bunch of IG stuff that we probably won't be able to use in most tournaments from now on or just like the idea of a pure GK army, what would be considered the most effective list in the current 40k metagame?

 

IMO its a tri raider list something like this:

 

BC with 6 GKT retinue (2 TH&SS)

 

6 PAGK with 2 incinerators

 

6 PAGK with 1 incinerator

 

3 LR Crusaders with extra armour, smoke

 

1491

 

or a more shooty force list like I currently run:

 

BC with 3 GKT ret (sacred incense, hood, 1 th&ss, 1 psycannon)

 

4 GKT (1 th&ss, 1 psycannon)

 

7 GK (2 psycannons, auspex)

 

7 GK (2 psycannons, auspex)

 

2 GH LR (extra armour, smoke, searchlights)

 

1500

 

Head to head the tri raider list is probably a bit stronger, but suffers terribly against most IG, Tau, Eldar and some SM. The second list is probably a bit stronger against these opponents and has a bit of redundancy in the terminator squads.

 

What does everyone think? Post your best list!

that tri raider list is ineffevtive IMO just purely becuase youve put 3 crusaders in.. if your running 3 it should probably be 2 godhammers and 1 crusader.

Although given our troops are expensive 3 raiders at 1500 is a bit much.

Who were you up against? The list looks good, and I love using Stern (his model is my favourite SM mini) but the only problem I see is that you are paying a premium price for an assault ramp (on the second raider) you aren't likely to use, and if you do, you sacrifice a lot of shooting.

 

This is how I run Stern at 1500;

 

Stern with 4GKT with incinerator

8 PaGK with 1 incinerator and meltabombs

5 PaGK with 2 psycannons and auspex

5 PaGK with 2 psycannons and auspex

2 landraiders (whichever you like better, for this list I'd probably go with 2 Crusaders, though 1 of each is also good)

 

The 8 man PaGK squad in one raider, the termis in the other. The 2 5 man units let you split fire and give you an extra option for taking objectives etc.

 

Having said all that, take my comments with a pinch of salt. I may be totally off base, and your list may be stronger. :lol:

i put the PaGK with the raiders and Ds the termies.. although id prefer two units of termies tbh.. just dont have the models.

Generally speaking i prefer to put incinerators on guys in the raiders, but i didnt have a 1500 point list made up so i couldnt tinker too much with the time i had.

I include the raiders not so much for thier transport capabilities but for the TLLC which are pure gold..

I hid in the raiders until the more dangerous units have been nullyfied at which point my guys jump out and shout "surplise"

Frankly though, it all depends on your playstyle. There is no one, best list out there. Some are better than others, but again, 90% of it is how you use it on the field. We don't have a point-and-click insta-win list like IG or BA. So just take what works for you, and run with it.

^ This. However, for point of discussion, I find it ludicrous to take Raiders and not stock up on every Incinerator you can get your hands on - they're just too good. So, I run and have had great success with something like this:

 

Brother-Captain w/ Incinerator, 4x GKT w/ Incinerator

Land Raider Crusader

 

Justicar, 6x PAGK w/ 2x Incinerator

Land Raider Godhammer w/ Smoke Launchers & Extra Armor

 

Justicar, 6x PAGK w/ 2x Incinerator

Land Raider Godhammer w/ Smoke Launchers & Extra Armor

The list I use is

Grey Knight Grandmaster with Pcycannon, ungants of warding, Hammerhand and master crafted on his Nemesis force weapon, with a retinue of 7 Grey Knight terminators

2 squads of 8 grey knights in Power armour, one with 2 pcycannons, one with 2 Incinerators, both justicars have tergeters

Grey knight Dreadnought with Plasma Cannon, Extran Armour and Incinerator

Grey knight land Raider.

There is 1pts spare after that, but I seem to have done okay with it as long as I am not BA or kan army orks.

Shy of not playing pure GK -- which is the smarter choice ;) -- I'd go with Aidoneus's first list. That said, I no longer play against anybody that doesn't have multiple throwaway/mobile melta units. That is, I no longer face 4th edition army lists where I play, which means everybody can slag my raiders or my dreads within just 1 or 2 turns, so such lists don't work for me and haven't for a long while.

 

The are only two ways to keep land raiders alive.

 

1. Saturate the field with enough targets that target priority is an issue. Well, when all you put on the table is land raiders ... that doesn't work.

 

2. Screen your raiders with disposable meat shields and counterassault. That isn't possible either.

 

Also, two or three land raiders does not a shooty force make, so you can't even compete that effectively in the shooting phase, either. Even Tyranids can way outshoot us. As well as out assault us, etc.

 

And dreadnoughts are no better off when you've only got a handful of Marines on the table as well.
