NovaScotius
Hi All, I’ve got three questions which I could do with some help answering; two of them are sort of related, the last one is a bit out on its own! 1. I received a model of Njal in TDA from my brother for my birthday – Needless to say, I’m thrilled as the model is about fourteen different types of awesome. My problem is that I can’t figure out the best way to use him – If I Drop Pod him, he will be limited to a small bodyguard, and he’ll be quite vulnerable in the middle of the enemy until his special ability builds up to the scary levels. If I put him in a Land Raider, he’s faster, but I’m fairly sure that he can’t use his ability as there are no fire-points. If I walk him, he’s slow, but if I give him a decent Terminator bodyguard and he should be pretty difficult to remove. Can anyone suggest a good way to use him? 2. Moving from that... I have 10 Wolf Guard Terminators begging to be built, but I’m not sure how. I have access to two Cyclone Missile Launchers and two Heavy Flamers in addition to the regular WGT box sets. I was thinking of building a unit like this... 2 WGT with Cyclone Launchers & Power Fists 2 WGT with Storm Bolters & Storm Shields 6 WGT with Storm Bolters & Power Weapons =440pts The plan behind these guys would be to walk them up the table and use them as an anti-infantry shooting unit. The Cyclones give them the flexibility to engage virtually any target (Though I would prefer not to be shooting Armour 14 tanks!), and I think they make a natural bodyguard for Njal if I did walk him. They’re not as killy in close combat as they could be, but I don’t really want Njal getting into combat if I can help it, his strength lies in his devastating psychic powers. 3. The final and unconnected question pertains to Razorbacks, namely those used by Long Fangs. I have a squad of six Long Fangs with Missile Launchers, and I love them. I’m thinking of investing in a transport for them, but I don’t know which way to go about it. There are three Razorback variants I can gain easy access to, these are twin-linked Heavy Bolter, twin-linked Lascannon or twin-linked Assault Cannon. The advantage of the twin-linked Heavy Bolter is that the tank is cheap, disposable and considered a low threat by most people. The twin-linked Lascannon and Assault Cannon are both more expensive, but they killing power is increased substantially over the twin-linked Heavy Bolter. What do most people tend to go with? Also, of the two (Assault Cannon and Lascannon), which is better? Sorry that it’s a bit of a text-wall, but I’d appreciate any help! Thanks! CainTheHunter
Njal is good when footslogging with some 10 other Wolf Guards in TDA. As to the ways of building Your WG TDA, there have been many discussions on the forum - just use the searchy. Cyclons are good, but be sure to give them storm bolters as well. The best ways are to use combiweapons - combi-plasma, combi-melta. Not combi-flamers, since You are better with heavy flamer in this area. I've done one WG with twin wolf claws, one hammenator, then gave out combi-weapons and power-weapons/claws to the rest. I also give the chainfist to one of the WG, who is helding heavy weapon. For sake of diversity I modelled one WG TDA with shield and chainfist as well, but he is my on-duty Lone wolf, who, if necessary, can make his appearance as an ordinary WG as well. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I have not had the chance to use the Najl model yet, but if and when I do, I will footslog him as well. WG Termi retinue in tow, of course!! I would think that his slower movement would allow time and turns to get his storm brewing. As far as the tank goes, I like the cheap and cheery rout myself. I am also not the biggest fan of plasma weapons solely based on 'gets hot!' of course. But in this situation I do think that the Lascannon is a better choice than the Assault cannon, it just may attract more unwanted attention to the Razorback than the Lascannon would. -R_P_R Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207693-3-space-wolf-questions/#findComment-2477919 Share on other sites
Requiem of the Wolf
Also you can move him behind a rhino to keep him from being spotted and thus shot at.
