Using established chapter iconography for my DIY chapter

Can i use FW Raptor icons (doors, pads etc.) for my DIY chaptor or would it look too odd?

 

Basically im at the stage now where my BA sucessors are getting a re-kit.They are the blood Hawks (Emperors Immortals are there 1st co.) and ive always freehanded until now - they use a golden hawks head on a red colour scheme. so basically the raptor logo is just a nicer and more detailed version of what im using now.

 

Im thinking of using them because as i said its so close to what i do now anyway but ive also not seen too many Raptor players, so i dont think it would be like changing the SW icons colours and passing it off as a new chapter, which would just look wierd and lazy IMO.

I don't see a problem. Look at the Crimson Fists, they have almost the exact same icon as the Imperial Fists, and the Hawk Lords have the identical one as the Raven Guard, only different colors.

same as the omega marines chapter, just flip the "u" on a ultra

 

I actually use BT markings, and models to represent the verde cross on my Letifers, And i use the Salamanders drake symbel to show my blood dragons.

I use the IF icon on a yellow field for my DIY, but they're clearly not IF. That would be the only thing I'd say to think about; make sure you're army won't be mistaken for the original chapter you're using the icon from and you're fine.

 

Of course, there is always this most important rule: They're your miniatures, do what you want with them.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, ive gotten back into the hobby after a couple of years just modelin and painting by myself, and last time i was going to tournies etc people were starting to crack down on that sort of stuff.

Its really of no import - in a Tourney - I could have teh Hydra symbol for Alpha Legion being used to represent the Sons of the Lizard King or some other made-up army of plastic and metal men... if your chapter are say Pink ultramarines, that's fine...no tourney will crack down on it, there is a good reason the yare pink (maybe they are desert fighters, where pink is a good camo colour? or a successor chapter that uses the same badge but a different colour scheme to teh founding chapter?)
