The Spears of Ultramar

Nope, still a bit lost I'm afraid. If you do another shield could you do a mini tutorial? I think I might understand that better.

In the biological issue, I think the rule of cool beats the problems the marine experiences

Finished making the next terminator.   I really like this guy.  I will be painting on him marksman awards as he is the firearms expert of the squad.  I think Im just really happy with the posing.  He looks very self confident and almost arrogant, which just gives him the look of a total bad ass.

Hope you like him.

Sorry, no shield pics yet. To be honest I got a bit caught up with this guy and forgot :)

I also have a request.... I dont have enough bare heads to get them different. If anyone has any marine bare heads they would be willing to trade (I have LOTS of bits) then I would really appreciate it. So far I have all the sanguine guard heads, the half bionic head (hate this one :P), terminator head, tactical squad serg head, and the two gas masked heads. So any other marine heads would be awesome.

Finished painting up the latest terminator (well I want to do some chevrons on the base but dont have a yellow paint).

As you can see I went for a dull red for the rope/braid. I was considering white but decided it wouldnt look very good over the ultra symbol and red added a nice regal colour to the model.

Once again I would like to make a call out to anyone with bare marine heads they dont need. I have lots of bits I can trade if you have any I dont have.

Until then here he is:

Thanks guys. A pretty minor update here. I made the mistake of trying to get too many things done in one week and actually getting not very much finished. So my terminator a week seems to have failed. But I have almost finished making the cyclone terminator, made a start on the squad leader and "counts as logan". What I did get finished is a drop pod for the first squad.

I know thats not much to have done but I decided to change it up a little to suit the unit. As I obviously would only have five models in the pod and as it is bought it has harnesses that are far too small for terminators I decided to make a terminator ready drop pod.

Yep they are going to be used with the space wolf rules. For some reason you cant used the marine codex to make a 1st company ;)

One more terminator made. This time the cyclone missile launcher. As with standard marine training I thought that I would have one of the newer members of the 1st company being armed with the heavy weapon. I also had to spend some time thinking about what other weapons he would be armed with. Originally I was going to go with a combi-melta. I then realised that (probably due to the rules being copied and pasted from the marine codex into the SW codex) that a terminator armed with a cyclone can only shoot a stormbolter as well :P So that had it do to storm bolter in one hand. I was then going to go with a power spear. But some thinking about this and discussion with a friend and I decided that this would be one of the few examples of a power sword. Trying to use a spear while having this huge box strapped to your back just seems impractical and it would add some variation to the army.

Anyway, I will stop babbling on now, here he is:

what colours or washes do you use for the dirty/worn white?

Nothing as simple as a wash Im afraid. I dont use washes very often (if ever), at least not as washes, very rarely as glazes.

To do the white I start with fortress grey and mix it up slowly towards white trying to make (the last coat especially) more mottled. Having the chipping of paint down to the colour below helps a lot too...

If your wanting to do white as the main colour (so without a colour beneath it to "chip to" and over larger areas) you will want to use a different technique, which you can find >HERE<

Finished the cyclone terminator. Im pretty pleased with him. I made a number of choices that seemed to turn out ok. The first being some major remodelling on the legs when constructing it. In my opinion there are two sets of legs in the terminator box that are stupidly positioned and look rubbish and this was using one of them by hacking the legs apart and doing more work than I normally have to to get them looking right. The other that really stands out is the chevrons around the missile launcher. I wasnt sure how this would turn out and before it was weathered a bit looked pretty garish... But with the model complete I think it adds a nice extra colour where as without it there would be such a mass of blue. Checkers would have been an option but I just wasnt feeling it on such a large weapon.

Hope you guys like him:

Not so much interest in the last guy. Oh well.

Ive finished making the squad leader. I wanted a stern looking figure implacably marching forward and I think Ive pulled it off alright.

He is a little different in that he is armed with a halberd instead of a spear (counting as a frost blade). It was made by extending the length of the blade of an axe and adding a "pointy bit" on the top.

Hope you like him:

Unfortunately he is going to have to wait a while until his painted as I have to paint up a Pan O force for an Infinity tournament. I hate speed painting

Wow, all these termies are amazing, I really like the grittiness and individuality of each model. The little details such as the cracks on the U symbol really give depth to these fellas. The sergeant model looks very good, that is an extremely mean looking halberd. Can I ask where the original axe comes from?

Can't wait to see more!

Cheers
