koran
Been working hard and managed to get the final two terminators done. YAY! The first is the last squad leader and wanting to make him a little different I thought I would go for something I have never seen before (probably due to it being an effort for not very much gain) a right handed chainfist. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4306.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4307.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4308.jpg And finally the company standard for the Spears of Ultramar first. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4310.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4311.jpg That leaves two drop pods and ten power armoured veterans to make. Nearly there on the making front! Need to get painting though :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207704-the-spears-of-ultramar/page/6/#findComment-2607480 Share on other sites

koran
Wow, its been a long time since an update. Sorry guys. Ive been a little useless and not actually finished much (Ive been jumping around projects a bit) and some of the things I have finished making are a little dull. What Ive got done is finishing making the two vindicators: http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4328.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4329.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4330.jpg Ive basecoated the terminators (need to decide which one to detail when I find some painting time, any opinions on which I should go for?): http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4323.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4321.jpg And Ive started converting up the power armoured marines, but as you can see I still need to get the details done and filling in some holes with greenstuff. They should give you the idea of what they will look like though: http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4326.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4325.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4327.jpg And finally, the main distraction (other than having lots of work to do) of the moment. Again, far from finished but its coming along. I will make it its own thread in a bit when it gets a bit further along: http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Thunderhawk/DSCF4331.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Thunderhawk/DSCF4332.jpg So yeah, lots of projects but nothing yet finished.... Munkyninja1988
AmaZing work there... where'd you get the files for the thunderhawk i'm considering makin one for my Sons of Orar, also the next model you should paint should be the banner bearer, would be good to see some freehand work. koran
I got them from http://www.ultramarines.nl/thunderhawkplans.htm However I found that they were quite poorly scaled so had to do a lot of modification. There are better plans online such as the following link that do a lot better plans from the look of it: http://www.4shared.com/dir/2PQOMQdP/Eli_Patoroch.html Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207704-the-spears-of-ultramar/page/6/#findComment-2650396 Share on other sites
koran
Wow.... With the distraction of making a thunderhawk and work I havent had a chance to do much on the Spears. Ive also been recently raging as someone took two of the power armored marines from my local GW while they were in the "dead pile". Not happy!! But regardless of that Ive been painting the trident armed terminator sergeant as people had requested. I had some tough choices to make on this fella. The two hardest being the picture on the banner and what to do with the half robe. The half robe I couldnt decide if I wanted text on it or not. I ended up thinking that if I had put a lot of text on it then it might look too much like parchment and that wasnt what I wanted, so a simple aquila it was. The banner was another matter. I needed a heroic scene that showed why he had been chosen to lead one of the squads of the Spear's first company. I chose the moment where, to save a doomed hive under attack from the tyranid menace, veteran Korvil ordered the chief engineseer to teleport him atop a heirphant that was baring down on the hive. Despite the risk of being telefragged Korvil knew his duty to protect the servants of the Emperor and, in a burst of light, found himself on the beast's head. There he thrust down his spear with all his might, slaying the foul creature. The psychic feedback that surged through the hive sent the tyranid swarm into chaos and the drop podding Spears easily whipped out the fleeing tyranids and recovered the half shattered body of Korvil. Weeks later Korvil had recovered and took his place leading one of the mighty terminator squads of the Spears of Ultramar first company. Hope you like him. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4363.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4364.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4365.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4366.jpg The banner had been blown up to larger than it actually is which makes it look less smooth or detailed. But in the flest it does look better. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4367.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207704-the-spears-of-ultramar/page/6/#findComment-2679902 Share on other sites
Metal Apostle
Very nice work  Is the eagle on the robe a transfer or freehand? Also just read the fluff; very very cool stuff! Love the way you captured the atmosphere and dynamic between the characters! koran
The aquila on the robes is freehand (i try to never use transfers) and I'll take that as a compliment. Also cheers for the feedback on the background a page or so back.... its a bit of a beast to get through so I really appreciate it. pnave01
Was wondering what you use to cast all the cool bits you have in this amazing army. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207704-the-spears-of-ultramar/page/6/#findComment-2680494 Share on other sites
koran
The casting is done with RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) silicon rubber to make th molds and then plain two part resin. The trick is finding somewhere you can order this stuff from (if your in the UK I use www.tomps.com) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207704-the-spears-of-ultramar/page/6/#findComment-2680694 Share on other sites
their kin
You can get the kits for casting off of amazon. Pourable 2 part rubber and resin starter kits for 50 or 60, and then refills for them because you tear through it. I haven't found any wholesale sources for it yet in the US though, I'll get a link if I can find it. pnave01
Thanks, I'm in Canada hopefully I can find something similar here. Also would the two part resin work if I pour it into a green stuff mold? koran
Im not 100% sure on that one. I think it might cause issues.... If you're using a grenstuff mold you might as well use greenstuff for the cast as well. koran
I thought Id go for something a little special this time so I decided to paint up the librarian of the army, one of the council of five that rule the chapter. It was nice to paint a different colour (even if it is just another shade of blue :P http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4375.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4369.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4374.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Ultras/DSCF4371.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/207704-the-spears-of-ultramar/page/6/#findComment-2684760 Share on other sites
subtlebrush
I found your thread a few days ago and I have to say I am amazed after going thru each page. My favorite miniatures would have to be the barrel guy and your newest the librarian. Your level of detail is amazing and you can count me as subscribed as soon as I get home from work.
