How to use Lemartes

Does anybody use this amazing character? You get one hell of a lot for 150 points, but he has to come with a jump pack...

I'm really not a fan of throwing jump packs on some DC just to use this guy as he seems to be intended to use. There seems to be way better ways to fill the roles of a JP DC lately.

Does anybody run him on foot with the DC since he can't go in a LR or a rhino? Or do you just forgo him for a regular chaplain that can be targeted in combat with lower initiative and no awesome other rules?

I really enjoyed playing around with Lemartes but DC are a glass hammer. You are paying premium points and only Lemartes has an invulnerable save. They will nuke one unit then get shot off the table. For those points you can take a squad of Vanguard with stormshields and a nice mix of assault weapons.

0b <_<

If you are going to field Death Company then a Chaplain let's them reroll hits & wounds when they charge... Seems almost mandatory to me. The FNP is awesome but with the plethora of weapons that are AP2 or below it's not really that much better than a cover save quite often. They are certainly lots of fun to play regardless.

0b ;)

to be perfectly honsest. i play with lemartes as often as i can he is an auto take unit imo for the dc. unles you are meching up, i dropped dante lemartes and 10 death company down in front of a chaos lord +termis the other day. got picked apart during shooting phase they assaulted. and i still walked out of combat with 5 dc and lemartes. (dante ate too many powerfists to save em)
i like the part where if he gets a wound he gets piss and jump to 5 attacks... ouch... though he only has 2 wounds... makes is kinda bleh... 3 wounds would be nice... and the whole i only come w/ jp thing is pretty lame... especially in this edition where jp on dc are expensive and not great.... bring back chaplain in squad negate rage and i'm game...

Really? Why, because he's not really an IC? That's cool.

Anyways, I was just thinking, with everyone so mad about the cost of an Uber Death Star DC unit being so high, why doesn't someone try going the opposite way and just fielding the minimum 3 DC marines with no upgrades(except for jump packs) and use them as a human shield to help get Mr.Madness into CC with some baddies. Obviously, just don't throw him at anything to hurty and he should kick some tail.

I'll try some test games this week and see how some JP DC do with him vs a LRC with 15 DC (2x pw, 1x TH, 1x PF) and a bare bones chaplain.

GW's trick of awesome models = sales, has definitely worked on me. They look far too awesome all painted up now to not give them a serious ride around the block.

EDIT: on a side note, is anybody else surprised that DC don't have fleet? It seems weird that a squad of marines can fire their weapons at full bore after moving, and still be able to assault, wouldn't be able to just keep running into combat.

I suppose it's just a little too much for 20 points a model.

As an update to my previous post, today for a game at 1750pts I added Lemartes to my 5-man JP-less DC, and the additional high initiative PW attacks made them utterly devastating, to say nothing of all the rerolls. I just wish I could fit him in somehow at 1500 quite frankly...
calgary, I think that Fleet was originally one of the DC rules and it got removed (see Tycho still having fleet) but this is entirely a guess on my part.

James that is what I heard as well plus that they would come equipped with bolter, bolt pistol and chainsword - über grit. If only it were so.

0b :pirate:

4 ways of running him.

Lots of JP DC = way to expensive

2 JP DC one with maybe hammer if you so wish = alot more damaging than you think if you can get that wound onto lemartes without killing the rest of them

lots of dc on foot = way to crappy with rage

lots of dc in Stormraven = really viable if you like storm ravens which i personally dont but that is another debate entirely

So to sum it up, either be an amazing general and somehow plant a wound on lemartes without killing a 3 man squad and use those str 6 int 6 reroll hit and wound attacks to take down someones poor char before it strike or have some reason for thinking that the storm raven is a good unit and put lemartes in there with some dc and watch that unit kick some ass!
